The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ Steve and his disguise check of 22 practically mow Cordelia down. Not intentionally. Steve can look confident all he wants, but when it comes right down to it he's not built for these things. Never has been. Formal situations like this just remind him that this isn't what he excels at. Put him in combat? He's perfect. Put him in a suit with people? Can't cope. ]

[ it seems like someone runs into cordelia every other day around here, starting during her squiring ceremony and progressing in a constant stream ever since. so her exasperated ugh as she rebounds away from him, raising both hands and turning to give him a scathing piece of her mind isn't really surprising - but her reaction is a little bit different than usual, the chastisement dying on her tongue. ] Can you watch where you're -- hi there. [ the last part is a little bit breathless, like just looking at him might have knocked the wind out of her. steve definitely wins the award for most aesthetically pleasing person to every try to plow her over. her scowl turns into a smile, as she swipes one hand through her hair, and then tries to straighten her dress as casually as possibly. ]

[ Steve's bracing for it because he knows he almost mowed her down. Any sane person would be pretty angry. He's not offended or even ready to fight back. He knows he messed up. He's trying to formulate the perfect apology already, but instead of yelling she just sort of trails off and rolls into a greeting. Which he appreciates. ]

Hi back. [ He's happy she's not yelling. He's already made a conscious decision to be as pleasant as humanly possible with her. Just to make up for the fact that he nearly steamrolled her like that. ] Sorry about that. I got two left feet no matter what I'm doing. Are you alright?

Fine. I'm fine. Better than fine. Great, actually. [ she pulls it together over here, flashing him a larger, gorgeous smile (charm 30) ] You're one of the new... squires?

[ Steve's certainly feeling that expert charm. Then again it's pretty easy to make Steve Rogers blush. Cordelia is doing a damn good job of it right now. ]

Yes, ma'am. Brand new. Squired to Sir Chessing. What about you? How long have you been here?

[ Note that eye contact. Never once does he look down. Even though that dress hides nothing. ]

Since last year. Did you hear about Prince Marcus returning to Andres Isle? It was about the same time. [ a beat ] I totally helped with that.

I didn't. Then again I haven't exactly kept up on current events here.

[ Technically Steve's been here for a while. The Knights is the new part of this whole deal. ]

Wow. That's some good work. Guess you're a regular hero. Miss--[ Asking for her name. ]

Chase. Cordelia Chase. And I know, right? We unseated this whole evil dictator.

[ Steve flashes her a smile. ]

I'm Steve in case you missed the whole knighting thing.

I know about unseating evil dictators. I was around for Hitler. I gotta commend you for looking out for people like that. No one needs to live under a dictator.

Wait. You fought Hitler? I mean, you just, you look really human. I mean... really human. [ she just gives him another sort of dazed once-over like dayum son ]

[ Steve can't help, but smile when she gives him that once over. He knows it's coming every time and still it makes him grin. ]

And what makes you think I'm not human?

Because every human who fought in World War 2 is sporting dentures and diapers?

[ Most of the people Steve knew would be in that way of living. ]

I was kind of a lab experiment back then. Perfect soldier creation.

Emphasis on the 'perfect'. [ someone needs to squirt her with a spray bottle tbh ] I mean, the whole experimented on thing sounds awful, but you can't argue with the results.

[ There's a blush that's creeping up into Steve's cheeks after she basically calls him perfect. He ducks his head and smiles to himself. ]

I volunteered. It wasn't so bad. It was for my country. Who am I to say no?

Wow, that is just so... patriotic. [ cordelia, that sentence is not a come-on, stop trying to make it sound like one. ] So how did Wynn convince you to leave America and go all European?

I guess so. Just always figured it was the right thing to do.

[ Patriotic didn't really occur to Steve back then. Everything was enlisting to help fight the Nazis. To protect America. ]

Jack Chessing did actually. He's the whole reason I'm here. He said I could help and I intend to keep protecting people. Even if this isn't my home.

Are you kidding? He's like Wynn's golden boy. I mean, I guess there used to be two, but one of them was already like captured or murdered before I showed up. Or like right after, I don't know. I never met him.

Really? That's something huh?

[ Steve is pretty modest about this whole situation. He doesn't really know why Jack would take an interest in him, but it's something to think about. ]

Why do you think he chose me? If he's such a huge deal that is. I mean--I'm really not anything special.

[ Steve's been in the modern world long enough to know that's her talking about his looks. Which is exactly why he ducks his head and smiles. His cheeks go red for a minute before looking up at her. ]

So, you think he picked me cause he liked my face? I dunno. I think you're much better looking. You're not in Dragons Claw are you?

[ oh my god "IN DRAGONS CLAW" he's so precious she's gonna die. ] The Dragon's Claw. It's not so much a sect, as a... position. Like the President. Or Miss America.
