The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Malina is looking not quite as fly, but pretty awesome all the same (disguise 17). She already has a drink in hand by the time she makes her way over to Hawley, flashing him a grin as she does.]

Honestly, I am impressed that you made it down the aisle without falling flat on your face.

[She's teasing - mostly, anyway.]

Honestly? So am I.

[ His tone is droll as he greets her with an easy grin, grateful for a familiar face. He doesn't have many of those here yet, still finding his feet and his way around his new surroundings, let alone all the people that fill it. He hasn't known her long but surviving near-death disasters and stopping evil supervillains or whatever have a way of pushing you past that awkward first stages of getting to know one another. ]

Was the armor and all the mumbo-jumbo really necessary?

[She smirks.]

Wynn is a bit of a traditionalist. But it's something we all went through, no matter how short or uncoordinated we may be.

[Granted, Malina's walk was flawless, but that was a miracle. It's not the kind of thing that happens twice.]

Short's not usually a problem I have.

[ He grins as he says the teasing words, because at 6'1, he's used to towering over a lot of people. Especially the one familiar face he's hooked up with here, since Abbie only comes midway up his chest. Something he will probably always find amusing and something she never will. He's okay with that though. ]

Besides. I was less worried about the coordination and more about the vows of truth-telling. You didn't warn me about that one. I'm just relieved I didn't get struck down by the Almighty for such terrible blasphemy.

Well, lying is kind of part of the gig when you're part of a secret organization. Just don't lie to Wynn.

[There's a beat.]

And I wouldn't lie to your fellow knights either. They might not take it so well.

If they can catch me at it?

[ He counters with a hint of a mischievous look that completely ruins his otherwise innocent expression. Not that he'd really been trying. But then again, he'd known better than to attempt that with Wynn within ten seconds of meeting him. His instincts still screamed caution whenever he was near the other man - not in a dangerous sort of way, but the rest of it he was still trying to puzzle out. ]

[And that earns him a bit of a look. Don't turn this into a game Hawley.]

A lot of the people around here are a lot sharper and stronger than they look. And some of them have very short tempers. Don't push your luck.

[procurer]

[ Nick holds his hands up in a motion of surrender - an accusation he's used to getting from Abbie, at least. Sigh. People have so little faith in him sometimes. ]

I'll do my best, but it's sort of instinct for me. Pushing my luck. Can't always help myself. But I'm also a pretty good judge of people, I'm usually pretty good about knowing who to avoid pissing off.

Good. Focus on pushing your luck on the missions - not with your coworkers.

[ That's meant as teasing, a hint of mischief in his blue eyes as he grins at her. ]

[Her eyebrows go up as she teases right back.]

And what would you be pushing on me, exactly?

[procurer]

Probably anything I can get away with. Any pointers as to what that would entail would be greatly appreciated.

[ The fact that she's teasing back has him pushing his luck a little farther, that flare of mischief deepening now. ]

[She laughs a bit at that, before shaking her head.]

Uh-uh. I'm not going to do all your work for you. You want to figure out what the limits are, you'll have to do your own homework.

[procurer]

Homework? No one said there'd be homework! [ He looks utterly dismayed at that for a moment before he chuckles. ] Lucky for you, I happen to be very good at homework.

[She laughs as she takes another sip of her drink.]

Good. Because there tends to be a lot of it around here, depending on what mission you're on.

[procurer]

Isn't there always? [ That, at least, is something comfortingly familiar to him. Research happens to be one of his specialties. Even if he's not sure how much he knows from home can be applied to this place. ]

Learn something new every day, right? I prefer to do a little less learning on the fly, but what can you do.

[Sometimes a mission calls for it.]

[procurer]

You and me both, but I suppose there's some things you never know to prepare for. [ He's certainly found that to be true, anyway. He does his best, but there's no accounting for all the possibilities when you don't even know the extent those possibilities could stretch. ]

Anyways, I should... thank you. By the way. For bringing me in. Not sure how this place and I are gonna mesh, but I appreciate the opportunity. And the fact that you didn't leave me stranded in the New York.

[She waves a hand as though to say no big deal.]

You ran into something when you could have run away. That's pretty much quality number one for a good knight right there. Figured the least I could do was give you a shot.
