wedding ♔ baby we've come a long way

♪ you are the best thing -- ray lamontagne
WHO || Lila & Sylar and invited guests
WHAT || Wedding & Reception
WHERE || Baglioni Hotel London, the Ballroom
WHEN || September 18, 2015; 4PM onwards [backdated]
HOW || ActionspamThe ballroom of the hotel is a study in elegance, which isn't surprising considering who the bride is, but perhaps more surprising are the personal touches and sheer sentimentality of the room. Circular tables are scattered on the edge of the dance floor, covered with ivory tablecloths, and while there isn't a seating chart, everyone invited can find a place card with their name scrawled on it so they can claim their spot at a table. Along with the simple centerpieces and floral arrangements, each table holds a different photo of Lila and Sylar, often times selfies, and a location that has some sentimental meaning. London, Nando's, New York, Chicago, Tahiti, Andres, etc. (The tiny table for two by the dessert table is labeled Oregon.)
Once they're presented to the guests, Lila and Sylar have their first dance, to get it out of the way and so no one can ruin it. After a dinner of steak, crab stuffed sole, creamed potatoes, and late summer vegetables, the DJ starts playing dance music and probably won't stop all night if we're being honest. Castle party music this is not. There is a brief pause to cut the cake and so Lila can inhale about twelve petit fours by herself, but it's party, party, party all night long. And, oh yeah, it's an open bar.

Regardless, they both had to know they weren't going to get through an entire night in close proximity without at least saying hello, so he's going to be a big boy and bite the bullet.
So when she heads out onto the balcony, he eventually makes his way out there as well, staying off to the side and giving her space as he looks up at the sky.]
I hope your evening has been well.

She couldn't be surprised when he came to join her on the balcony. Rose knew that it was Dimitri before he even spoke. It was one of those things that would probably never change, some remnant of what they'd once been, even before coming here.
Her gaze slides in his direction, Rose struck by how well he looks and there's a part of her that's both grateful and sad for it. She was selfless enough to be happy to see he appeared well, but still, selfish enough to almost wish he didn't have to show it.]
It's been... [She considers lying but just shakes her head, letting out of a dry huff of laughter.] Weird. I mean, come on. I'm pretty sure I'm the last person you expected to see here.
no subject
It was a little unexpected, but not as much as you would think. [He looks away again, back out into the distance.] Things change.
no subject
But not so much that you didn't come. [Gaze flickering towards him.] I'm glad.
no subject
No, not quite that much. [His eyes turn to look at her, even as his face turns forward.] It's nice to see you, Rose. You look beautiful.
no subject
Thanks... [An almost sheepish grin touching her lips as her gaze falls away.] I figured the bride would pitch a fit if I showed up in jeans and a t-shirt so...
[Using humor to buy herself a moment before she can add.]
It's, good to see you too. Really. [And she means it, even if she does seem a little uncertain about how to do this with him.] So hows Siberia? You missing the constant crappy weather of London, yet?
[omg Rose you are not trying to talk to him about the friggen weather...]
no subject
You're welcome.
[Probably right about Lila, too.]
I'm glad. [He's not exactly great at this either.] Not at all, actually. For how lacking my actual memories of the place are, it still feels like home, if that makes sense.
no subject
Not really... [Forcing a chuckle past her lips as she lifts one shoulder in a shrug.] But I don't really have anywhere that feels like that for me so, it's different I guess.
[Rose drags her gaze away from him, once again allowing the London lights to occupy her eyes, if not her mind. A question dances on the tip of her tongue, one she wants to ask but is almost afraid to hear the answer. The hesitance is there in her eyes as she looks back at him again, wrapped in regret and the apology she feels she owes but also can't quite make.]
Are you... happy?
no subject
[He's unsure if she's speaking about the other side of the Veil or everything. He looks concerned, as if by now some place should have at least somewhat felt like that, especially after all her time here.
He looks at her, even as she looks away, then back again.]
I'm not unhappy.
[He would never lie to Rose about anything, especially not about anything important. He's neither in a good nor a bad place. He's simply doing his job and attempting to stay content with that.
After a year, he's settled.]
Are you?
no subject
The Castle is as close to a home as I can remember having. [There is a but there however because it's not a simple answer for Rose. She's never had a real home. No one place that she could go to in the world that felt so familiar it wrapped her up and welcomed her back and the Castle hadn't always been the most welcoming of places for her.
That, like everything else in her life had been changing however and she nods slowly, as if she's only truly considered it now because he's asking.] So it's become that, I guess? Or getting there.
[It's not that she hesitates out of uncertainty but because she knows the potential for hurt this answer holds. She doesn't take the cowards way out however, Rose looking Dimitri in the eye because he deserves that much. At the very least.]
I am. [She could tell him that it had taken time. That it wasn't because she was Dean instead of him but in the end, that wouldn't make that truth any easier and it wasn't what he'd asked. She had all the same problems she had before but she was still, happy.]
no subject
Home for his was a complicated issue at the moment. He didn't really know if he had one, either.]
These things take time.
[They'd both been entirely uprooted, after all.]
I'm glad.
[And the words are genuine, a ghost of a smile on his lips. That's all he'd wanted for her was for her to be happy. If his leaving had given her the ability to fine contentment, then he'd made the right decision.]
