It's been a week since Sir Jeanne Gar was abducted by agents of the Church of the Lord's Humanity, despite the Knights' efforts to thwart the attempt.  Several of the younger Knights learned a harsh lesson as they watched the Mind Master shake even the seasoned Sir Hasmed, and turn some of their number on each other.   While Wynn has announced that they are determined to find a way to save Gar, it''s certainly obvious why he's hesitant to send agents out, after what the Mind Master alone has done to several Knights, including Finnick Odair, who may never be the same.  

A dark cloud hangs over the Knighthood, either way, dampening any enthusiasm won from their victory in finally taking down Dimitris Sarandis and two other notable members of the Shadow-hating Church led by Draken Crombe.

The sun is still up in the late evening, on this day, but there's a heaviness in the air.

[ In the training room, sweating and laughing, Buffy walks off the mat away from Rafael to grab the water bottle and the towel waiting for her on a bench. She takes a drink, then passes the water bottle over to Rafael to instead wipe sweat from her face. She turns her attention to her phone where it waits on her gym bag as it buzzes.

Dropping the towel, she swipes the device and straightens as she reads it, her brow furrowing at the incoming message from Felicity. For a moment, it simply won't process—the words are at odds with every possibility, as far as her mind is concerned, and it tries very hard to resist the conscious awareness of what must be truth. Slowly then, she lifts her gaze to the half-elf before her. ]

... The Mind Master's here. At the castle.

[romanticidal]

[ rafael is always winded as fuck after a session, so he's got that water bottle almost vertical over his head when ... she says that, and he nearly chokes. he lowers it, looking at her with bewildered eyes. ] ... What?

[slay]

They're in the driveway with Crombe. [ it all crashes in as it comes out aloud, and Buffy drops the phone back to her stuff, clapping Rafael on the shoulder and heading for the door in a rush. ] We have to go now.

[Meanwhile, Sam was on his way into the training room as all this starts going down, and while normally he would give her a wider berth considering their last conversation, not wanting to make things worse, he instead makes his way over, towel draped over his shoulder as he approaches them with furrowed brows.

Since he, ya know, caught that (listen 19).]

As in Draken Crombe?

[Just gonna fall into step next to them as he literally about faces as they're about to pass one another.]

[ ukw raf is just pulling his guns out, hi sam ] You think this is another attack?

[slay]

The one and only. [ Beat. ] Well, one of ... double, actually, but something tells me Felicity didn't take the wrong name down when Chad Becksworth came to visit. [ She's tearing out of the gym, and once Sam has the passing affirmation, her attention is wholly on Rafael, nodding at his instinct to come out guns blazing. ]

We have to assume the worst. [ Her "have to" carries with it all the weight of what they've seen in the past from these a-holes. ]

[Surprise he's just inviting himself along because this all sounds horrible and they've had enough horribleness lately no thanks.

Also he's a Winchester, he definitely has a gun with him so he's just gonna pull that out too and book ass with them.

[Topher's just minding his own business, walking down the hall, when he sees... this shit, and immediately decides to engage all that.] What the... hey is going on? Is this a drill? Why all the guns?

[ Oh good a person she doesn't recognize. Probably a squire. That makes him like a newspaper boy right. Buffy points to Topher. ]

And Draken Crombe. You stay inside. Find Wynn and Tia, make sure they know what's happening.

[Everything is terrible.]

Tia's usually at the downtown office, so she's probably not around.

[ oh gr8. also another thought makes him stricken and he slows enough to look at buffy with concern ] The children, carina... [ i mean the bad guys did try to feed them to dinosaurs that one time ]

[topher keeps following.] She took Gar. I know she's a crazy psycho, but I'm not staying anywhere.

[ Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. The kids. Buffy's horror matches that of Rafael to such a degree that she hardly even notices Topher decide to come with. When he does, though, she turns to him and arches her eyebrows like — ]

Okay. But call Tia. Get her up here as soon as possible. [ Because someone left her phone. ]

[Because he's got Tia on speed dial, I guess. Ring ring.]

[ she picks up after a few rings ] Hello?

Hey, it's Sam. [Getting right to the point. Serious business.] Bad news, but the Mind Master and Crombe are apparently here for a visit. Buffy Summers said I should let you know.

[telekinect]

A visit? [ WTF ] I'm nowhere near London right now, let alone the castle.

[familybusiness]

I don't have details yet. We're on our way to check it out.

Where are you?

[telekinect]

Visiting family a few hours away. I'll start driving.

[familybusiness]

[And then he hangs up and pockets his phone.]

She's on her way, but it'll take her a couple hours.

[ in the meantime y'all can make listen checks dc 20 to hear vi swearing up a storm in the med center which is not far away from them at all. don't look at rafael, he crit failed b/c he is the worst semi-elf. ] Then we will have to assume she will not make it on time. [ ON TIME FOR WHAT RAF. ON TIME FOR WHAT. ]

Rafael's right. That's not soon eno— [ She stops mid-sentence to whip her head around like I heard something but I'm not sure what. A moment's silence affords context and she moves for the med wing (listen 22). ] That sounds like Vi.

[Sam catches the noise too (listen 22) but looks to Buffy.]

Should we check it out or head for the lobby?

[topher's listen check doesn't matter because like a determined little ferret, he is just running straight for the lobby.]
