[ The castle can be a happening place, even on more mundane days. This log is for random interactions over the course of this month. Because not everyone is into parties, ok.

[Junior cleric in the house. Well, junior something. She's squired, she doesn't know what she is. Except that she's going to be a cleric, regardless of the effect is may have on her sanity. So there.

Which is why she is not avoiding the Dragon's Light wing. She's also not.. paying attention at all, fiddling with her silver necklace (she had a spoon, but charmed spoons are just useless in all honesty) and muttering to herself about some saint (Vincent) and some bond (hers) and something else that trails off into her veering off to the side when she looks up and sees red.

Hair.

That's a person. She really needs to pay attention while she is walking. Her face shows how startled she is, being pulled out of the wanderings of her mind.] Oh, sorry!

You're fine.

[ alanna's reassurance comes with a smile, and a quick step back. she holds up her hands, placating, and dismisses it. she'd been on her way out in a hurry, not wanting to get grabbed by anyone who might demand practice or training or magic of her, while lissa was heading in, head-down.

and she really, absolutely does want to leave, but she stops at the sight of the squire, easily identified. ]

You're new, right? And already praying like the rest of them. [ she's not big on the praying. she has faithful, he can give her the fyi on her spells and shit ok. ]

What? [Lissa's eyebrows knit together in confusion. She understands partly, she knows that some clerics have a specific deity they give patronage to and follow, Anastacia had filled her in on Sir Solace, and hanging around the wing had given her more to go on, but Lissa's power is intrinsic so she... doesn't.

At least not yet, she's looking into it, wondering if that would counteract the effects of spirit.] I wasn't... praying, I was just talking to myself.

[ that garners an amused, tiny little grin out of alanna and she raises her eyebrows. ]

Might want to stick with telling people you're praying, if that's the case. [ she stretches out a hand to shake. ] I'm Alanna.

[Lissa laughs, looking wryly amused and a little sheepish. But she takes the other girl's hand and shakes with a surprising firmness.]

Lissa, it's nice to meet you. You're probably right about the praying, but I haven't found anyone to pray to.

[At least anyone besides the Christian god, but she is struggling a little with reconciling the theology she was raised with and the ones she is surrounded by now.

She seems to realize she's in the way though and glances back the way she came.] Were you headed out?

Ah, yeah, I don't really - I like to keep my distance from the magic when I can help it. [ she shrugs her shoulders a little awkwardly, and she looks entirely too gruff for a tiny teenager of her size. then again, a lot of her demeanor doesn't look appropriately teenaged, so it's not out of place with the rest of her at the very least. ] You're from a Shadow World, then?

[Lissa backs up, so Alanna can leave if she wants. She wasn't in any rush to get into the wing, she just doesn't have anything else to do with her time sometimes.] Yeah, I guess that's what they call it. Do you have a problem with magic?

[She says problem curiously, like she doesn't mean a problem with it like the KKK has a problem with... everyone. But problem more like an aversion to it. And it is just a hopeful curiosity, because Lissa doesn't want to be the only one with a magic problem she needs to work on.]

Not exactly.

[ alanna shifts in her discomfort, reaching up to scratch the short hair at the base of her neck. ]

Not all magic is like they use here in the castle. I've seen it turn terrible. Watched people hurt and consumed by it. It's dangerous. The less I deal with it, the happier I'll be.

[Lissa's eyes go a bit wide and her lips part in slight surprise before slipping into a smile, expression at odds with the somber subject matter.]

I know what you mean. [Spirit was a catch-22, she could heal and she could charm but it hurt, scratching away at her sanity and emotional well-being. And worse, it hurt Rose, something which she is hoping their distance will help -- it has to have some use besides making Lissa miserable.] I really do, it's not just a platitude.

[Except Lissa can't stop: if she can heal, she will.]

Don't let Solace hear you say it too loudly. I'm fair certain he's had enough of one of me. [ she says it with a quirk of a smile, because she can recognize that lissa too is quite the reluctant mage based on her response. and she knows that the reluctance only lasts so long in the face of injured people. ] Suppose we're both sort of tempting fate then, aren't we? Coming here. [ she glances into the infirmary, and her meaning is clear enough; being around the sick and wounded draws it out like nothing else. ]

Maybe we both need to work on impulse control. [Especially because her impulse control... don't just affect her.] Would you mind... if we could talk about it more?

[ there's a fleeting look of discomfort, because oh goddess what has she gotten herself into, but it's hard to say no to the girl and alanna's conflicted expression fades into surrender quickly enough. ]

Talk about it all you like. I'll listen.

Thank you. [It's very clear from her expression that the gratitude is real and not just ingrained manners. It is a difficult thing to talk about, and Lissa needs to talk about it.] I have a bond, with friend Rose, she can feel what I feel. And when I heal, sometimes there are...

[She chews on her lip a moment, thinking about it. How do you word "and when I heal I fall into horrific pits of depression and self-harm to relieve the emotional pressure" without actually saying any of that?] Side-effects.

Rose doesn't remember me and so she doesn't know how it affects me. I don't. I don't want to have to stop if she feels the effects of it, but I don't want it to hurt her. ...does that make sense?

She's hurt by your healing?

[ the perplexed tone of voice says it all; alanna's never heard of any such thing. mages exhausting themselves, certainly, but draining other people? only if they had the gift themselves, and even then, it was meant to be willingly given by someone nearby. she can't remember thom's mishaps in stealing hers for a spell, though something about the connection seems to ... wear at her memories. like she feels familiarity towards it but knows she's never heard such a thing. ]

Can't say that bit makes sense, but the rest of what you're feeling certainly does. You don't heal people so you can hurt your friend, whether she remembers it or not. Solace might help you; find a way to sever the link, or dampen it.

[Lissa nods, thoughtful and mulling over Alanna's words.]

I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask, at the very least. [Which isn't quite true, breaking the bond would hurt a lot, but on an emotional level and if it stopped Rose from dragging all Lissa's pain away then of course she would try. And she knows that there have been times she wished she didn't have the bond -- the more intrusive aspects of it, like having no privacy at all and the fact that Rose could enter her thoughts without warning or permission -- but it's been part of her for so long, Rose has been part of her for so long...] It would be nice to be able to heal without worrying about Rose at the same time.

She's a night as well, though, yeah? Have you explained it to her?

[ because if she hasn't, she damn well better. that's the kind of thing a girl needs to know before she's in the middle of the fight and suddenly feels lissa healing someone and draining her or however it works. ]

We don't, um. Talk much. [Or at all, because they are both hideously stubborn and Lissa is a baby.] I was hoping that if she didn't know, she wouldn't actively try to ease my pain because she wouldn't know about it.
