The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[France was a different sort of mission that involved Faye actually feeling something close to kinship with the people she was working with. She still isn't sure how she feels about that. But all she knows is that the thought of having a conversation with Emma doesn't make her want to roll her eyes....much.

Look it's a process with her.]

What do you think about them? [She gestures with her head towards the new squires. This is not a small way of showing that she values your opinion or anything.]

[ with a spot of 25, she's able to easily pick out the new squires and identify them as well as realize they're who faye is talking about. she takes a moment to size them up at faye's prompting, and with a wis of 18, has some fairly positive judgments to make of at least one of them. she points kate out. ]

Cop. [ all right, so that one's kind of a gimme considering how emma spent a considerable portion of her young life knowing how to keep an eye out for them. but it's easy to interpret from the way kate carries herself. ] Should get the swing of things pretty quick. The others ... Well, the kids here have surprised me before, maybe they will again. [ but they look about faye and lila's age tbh so emma is (unsure). ]

[Faye doesn't think of herself as a kid, but she has a feeling that Emma is lumping her in with that comment. She scowls slightly because of it but doesn't actually respond to it.]

Guess we'll have company at the shooting range. [She glances at Emma, a hint of a question there. They hadn't really gone back to their trade since the one time. Shooting lessons for magic lessons. For all Faye knew, Emma had gotten what she wanted out of that. Faye's shooting, however, still left something to be desired. But pride kept her from actually asking about it right out.]

Have you gone back since the last time?

[ because if faye's gonna go there, emma might as well check in. shooting takes practice and emma had, well, tried to do some magic exercise this mission and just been denied the chance. she's not really sure what else she can do at this point, so it's left her a little useless. ]

Once or twice. [No... no she hasn't. Faye isn't really sure why she lies to Emma, except to prove that she can. Or maybe she just gets mad that Emma always seems to know HOW THE FUCK DO YOU DO THAT EMMA.

Or maybe it's a defense mechanism to keep the woman at arm's length. (bluff 14 like are you even trying, dice??)]

[ with her sense motive of 16 emma is able to figure it out fairly easily. she arches a doubtful eyebrow. ] Or ... never. You're never going to improve if you don't practice.

[Busted. Again. Faye scowls but only because she is still baffled at how Emma does it EVERY TIME.]

I've been busy.

Prioritizing other things over your practice isn't busy, it's distracted.

[She opens her mouth and thinks about protesting. It's an instinct, a reflex, but she closes her mouth quickly and nods.]

Okay. [There's a little hesitation there before she adds.] We can talk about magic more... if you want.

Actually, I'll pass. It wasn't magic that helped in Paris, it was knowing people. Maybe it's better for everybody if I stick to what I'm good at.

It wasn't shooting people that helped in Paris but I doubt that would get me out of practice. [Emma don't make excuses.] Magic saved everyone's ass on my first mission. Each one is different. I just figure I should try to be ready for anything. [Its also partially a trust thing. She doesn't want to need to rely on anyone out there. And being able to show Emma how to use magic had made her feel good- and not just in the way that she was better than someone else at something. She felt useful.] But if you're done with it, whatever, I guess. I just didn't peg you for a quitter.

That trick doesn't work on anyone over 20, kid. [ seriously a high schooler is not baiting her by calling her a wuss or a quitter. she looks flatly amused, though, and rolls her eyes. ] We'll see. How about that?

[You can't blame a girl for trying, can you? Faye looks pleased with herself though. Mild victory for her, okay.]

Works for me. [And satisfied with the exchange she will just saunter away because she's still kind of a brat...]
