[A tentative late night text:] Are you busy?

She had finished the cake long before she sent the text, as she wasn't sure how long it would take for him to actually come to the kitchen. Now she was just waiting, both pleased with her finished project, and a little hesitant. She tried to remind herself that it was just a cake and she had no reason to be nervous.
Baking was a new hobby of hers and she had kept it hidden, afraid of being terrible at it. She was more confident in her skill now, though, and she had made this cake specifically for him. And it had turned out amazingly well (with a nat 20 baking check). She has this unhealthy need to make him proud.
So she brushes off her apron as she leans against the counter, the cake pedestal strategically placed behind her, just barely in sight from the doorway.]

... What's all this then?

[She goes over to the cake as she describes it.] I think it turned out quite well. I obviously haven't tried it yet, but it looks alright.
[And she turns back to Christos, looking a little hesitant again.]

looks like a job well done, certainly.

Thank you. [She says, still sounding quite amused. Until she realizes he might think she's laughing at him. And her instinct kicks in
(so she can't be held responsible for what she's about to do)as her head snaps back in his direction. And her first thought is to just distract him before he can react to her laughing (with a charm check of a 39). She turns her amused smile into much sexier one as she looks him over for any signs of distress. She meets his eyes.] Perhaps now would be a good time for me to actually let you take what's rightfully yours. [And of course she was referring to the cake that she made for him. But it doesn't come across quite like that.]no subject
He stares at her, uncomprehending, and his mouth opens to respond but nothing comes out. Until finally he manages to at least repeat the words she just said, as if to confirm that she meant them.] What's rightfully ...
[And then his eyes slide over the counter and stick there. And he puts two and two together rapidly.] Ah. Yes.
Of course. [Of course :| ] Let's have a slice, then.

She cuts and serves the cake with ease, turning back to him to hand him his piece.] I hope you like it. [She's still smiling because she just likes being with him so much. She simply holds her plate, leaning her back against the counter, and waits for him to try his piece of NAT 20 cake first.]

What possessed you to start making cakes?

[She sits across from him, crosses her legs, and picks up her fork.] I was hesitant to tell anyone I had taken it up until I had time to practice. Make sure I was competent at it. You're the first person I've shared with. Naturally. [She gives him a smile and waits for him to try his piece before she takes a bite of hers.]

Yes. [Her reply is simple, but there's an unyielding certainty behind it, her voice strong.] She seems scared, but the things she's frightened of are not fears most would understand. You make her feel safe. [She smiles to herself and mumbles:] You're good at that. [And then quickly picks her voice back up to cover it.] It seems as if you can sympathize with her insecurities, and that comforts her because it lacks the pity most would show. [She's trying to pry, sure, but mostly she's attempting to reassure him of his greatest strengths. Squiring can make you doubt yourself more than any other situation in the Knighthood.]

The girl was strong enough and smart enough to outwit the London police force for that long. Pity is the last thing she deserves.
