[Helen is a busy little worker bee most of the time, spending far too much time in her lab, pouring over samples of DNA from various Shadowkind that the knights encounter on missions, learning as much as possible to determine the best way to neutralize any threat.

She does love interruptions, though, so if you've made a wrong turn (or a right one) and end up in her lab, feel free to say hello.]

Des walks in with a much larger bottle of scotch than the one she gave him the other day.]

I thought you might want a replacement.

[Oh hello interruption.

Helen glances up from her microscope, genuine surprise covering her expression before a smile lifts the corners of her mouth.]

It might take me a lifetime to get through that, you know. I'm not much of a drinker.

Neither was Finnick Odair, and now he's an alcoholic. [He places it on the table.] I'm either enabling or softening the blow. You can pick which one.

Our own pop star? Funny- the tabloids haven't seemed too interested in that story.

[Okay so she's sort of been following failboat's exploits. At least what the public sees of it.]

They're too busy debating on whether or not he and Burt are something more. [He does the scare quotes with his fingers.] I'm sure the alcoholism came from his squire anyway.

[He shrugs.] Don't mention it. I've had a lot on my mind lately- stuff that's hard for most people to stomach.

Really? Finnick and Mr. Becksworth? Well-- they would make an attractive couple, certainly..

[Its clear by her expression that this is a pairing she can't wrap her was around. Helen does not ship it. She shakes her head to get rid of that train of thought.]

I know we hardly know each other, but should you need to talk, I'm in a more unique position to try to understand. But I won't be offended if you choose not to take me up on the offer.

[She might just be here to see if she can be of any help, since she's heard that what she is is pretty rare, and frankly having one as an enemy is fucking complicated and she's not afraid to admit that.

She pokes her head in to the lab, happy to see that the woman inside looked friendly enough.]

[Helen glances up from her microscope, looking a little startled by the unfamiliar voice. But once she spots the girl, she shifts quickly into a smile.]

Hello, dear. Can I help you with something?

[Uncomfortable situation is uncomfortable until she knows who isn't going to judge her around the Castle hurrah.]

I recently found out that I'm not exactly as...human as I thought I was, and thought that maybe the lab might want some samples for...testing, I guess? [She gives her a sheepish grin.] I might be a little curious myself, too.

[Well that catches her attention, certainly. Helen regards her carefully before nodding and gesturing for her to come forward and have a seat in a few nearby chairs.]

That's easy enough to arrange, but before we get on with that, why don't you tell me what you do know.

[She takes the cue, sitting down and crossing one leg over the other.]

I'm a doppelganger. [A beat.] Or at least I'm...part doppelganger? I don't really know. I came through the Veil and I don't really remember, but I met one and they...recognized me, I guess. Taught me how to do the things he could.

Things like what, exactly? [Helen's often found that getting information from the direct source is so much better than staring with book and other pieces of research documentation. She prefers to connect with her patients in this way as well.]

Jeanne! I'd heard you were back. Been meaning to come find you, but... Well- you know how it is.

Oh... relieved, to be back, I imagine. Eager to wrap my mind around any other kind of problem for... at least a bit.

[Helen's eyebrows raise slightly.]

That bad? Well- I can't imagine you want to go into the details in that case. So why don't you think up another topic while I put on some tea.

I'd love to hear about what you've been working on.

Cataloging mostly. Samples from different species found out in the field, creating new files. Although as of late, it seems I may not need to venture far at all for new and interesting cases. The Veil has been bringing us some interesting squires.

[ so spoilers, i have no self control. we need more threads. anyway, lila wanders in because, actually, she was looking for gar, but she finds helen instead. she stands at the door, sipping her coffee and waiting for helen to be done with whatever it is she's doing. she's here, so she might as well get shit done. ]

[Helen is doing important research!! On... something idk. Very research. So science.

But eventually she stops with the microscoping and notices she has a visitor.]

Lila! Hello, dear. Something I can help you with?

[bittersweeter]

I was looking for Gar, but I figured you could siphon off some blood while I'm here. [ lila speak for i'm bored, why don't you run tests on me. ]

Afraid she's stepped out. But yes- I absolutely could do that while you have the time. Come- have a seat.

[She will go grab some supplies in the meantime.]

[ she sits, seemingly at ease. it's a fucking lie. (bluff 44.) she hates doctors. they always try to tell her she's not in pain when she is. it helps that she's too short for most chairs, her feet swinging back and forth make her look relaxed. ]

[Helen's a bit too distracted to pick up on that dishonesty (sense motive 18), so when she sees Lila sitting and swinging her legs, she just smiles warmly.]

Now- I'll just need your arm? [She settles into a nearby chair.]
