The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ it's not hard to pick hayley out of the crowd. you know, preggasaurus rex and all. but once vi does find her, she scampers over with a glass of wine (for herself) and a plate with two cupcakes on it. ] Heeey, Hayley, right? I'm right, I just never figured out how to approach people without bumping into them and you look pretty so I don't want to spill wine on you. I'm Vi, your new mentor. Which is like the knight equivalent of big sister or something and I'm super serious about it because my mentor is like my big sister, which is weird because I'm older than her? But, you know, basically, if you need anything, you can ask me!

[ she takes a breath, the first, bright blue eyes sparkling with a cheerfulness that isn't... entirely there. she's exhausted, okay, but she wanted to be here for hayley. ] So hi, nice to meet you, want a cupcake?

[Hayley never thought that she'd ever meet anyone that rambled more than Josh.

She was wrong.

Vi comes barreling at her with a stream of words and thankfully, Hayley catches them all.]

Yeah, definitely Hayley, no to the cupcake, and you're my mentor? [Not to say anything negative, but she's definitely seeming a bit... not the type to be a mentor. It could be that she admitted to not being able to introduce herself to strangers without staging it as an accident.]

Yeah. I've been here for over a year, but I've been doing this sort of thing since I was thirteen so I'm kind of a pro. [ though she looks likes she's still a teenager, so that probably isn't all that comforting. ] It probably helped that my mom is big on childbirth and midwifery so, you know, I got you covered.

[ she doesn't point out hayley obviously pregnant belly, because that would be rude. ] But if you don't want me, after we get to know each other, I'm sure Wynn will let you request someone else.

[ right now vi has the self worth of a potato so she doesn't even hesitate with that offer, just sits down and break off a piece of the cupcake, more for her. ]

No, I didn't mean it like that. [Which is a phrase that can never be followed up with the question 'Then how did you mean it?' because that's never good.]

I just don't know you. At all. I thought mentors were people you looked up to and trusted. It just seems odd that it would be someone I don't know. [Unless it's a test.]

Unless it's because I'm pregnant and you have all that prior experience, in which case, I'm sorry they gave you the pregnant one.

[ for what it's worth, vi doesn't seem at all bothered by hayley's questions and concerns, just eager to address them. in a perpetually exhausted way. ]

Well yeah, but not a lot of people come in knowing someone who is already a knight. And even then there might be conflict of interest and all that good stuff. Like, the knight that suggested I join and the girl who ended up at my mentor are two different people. Thank god. Not that I don't love Kat to pieces, she was the best mentor, but Luthir? He's the Legolas looking dude around here, we're getting married. So, you know, that's why I don't want him to be Kat, but that a tangent...

Mentors are sort of here to show you the ropes, help you get used to this place, how everything works. I guess, yeah, you're supposed to trust us and I dunno, look up to us, though I think that's optional, but you sort of learn to trust by getting to know the knight you're squired to, you know?

[Hayley nods, trying to understand and agree, but she doesn't quite agree and she's not really sure what all she's meant to do except nod along at this point.]

I'm sure it'll work out. It's just not something I'm used to. I didn't exactly have anyone to teach me much of anything growing up. [At least not the important things. Like how not to kill someone so that you don't turn into a werewolf once a month. No one told her not to have sex with hybrids eitehr... so lessons and all that.]

[ she smiles, not as big and bright as before, but no less genuine. ] I hope you'll feel at home here, but I know it might take a while. Most of the people here are happy to help and if they're not it's probably like... Lan. He's kind of surly.

Well, I will stop bogarting you so everyone else here can meet you. It was nice to meet you, Hayley. [ she smiles again before getting up and drifting off. probably toward luthir. ]
