There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[like ... everybody else p much, alex is up in here about to get some midnight snacks. probably bagels, since ... you know, he doesn't know how to cook anything. and he hasn't went on a take-out run recently. but then vi has to be down here eating her pizza. damn it. X( ]

I miss New York pizza. [this is why is prob for the best that he spends 99 percent of his socialization time with other new yorkers. they understand the never shutting up about new york everything.]

[ but she smiles weakly and... hugs the pizza closer because she's not about to share. she offered a slice to francesca only assuming she would say no. this pizza is hers. she had a weird ass dream and she's soothing her soul with leftovers. ]

Privyét. Konbanwa. Salut. Nǐ hǎo. You get the picture. [omg boo he's not gonna touch your pizza. it's not from new york.]

That was like... five more languages than I speak. [ ??? ]

Russian. Japanese. French. Mandarin. I only really speak the first two, though. I was trying to cover my bases on greetings. [he takes a bite of his bagel.]

Cute, that was cute. [ she points her folded slice of pizza at him. ] You are adorable.

[snort] So I've been told. Are you getting in one last meal that isn't shit before we all head off to war? [he doesn't know she's not going yet ok.]

Yes. [ she pauses, debating telling him, but she hedges for now. ] I don't trust hot sauce unless I make it myself and it's hell to pack, so messy. [ bluff 16. she tried. :( ]

[sense motive ... 13. he actually buys it for some reason. maybe he just doesn't care that much. probably that one.] You make your own hot sauce? How homemaker-y.

I'm morally opposed to the shit in the bottle. It's not even hot. [ she is as judgmental of hot sauce as those new yorkers are about pizza. ] What are you doing down here, trolling for dick?

Why, have you got a dick for me? [he laughs, then makes a dismissive handwave gesture.] I was hungry, why else would I be in the kitchen?

I dunno, I thought you'd be screwing your last night away in case you die. You've disappointed me. [ she shakes her head, making a face. ]

Maybe I already have, and now I'm resting on my laurels. [bluff crit fail. :( the only person he wants to screw the night away with before he goes off to war is beks. how gay and depressing is that. cries about it.]

It's not fair. Everyone is fucking and I'm stuck here eating pizza after the weirdest fucking dream because my stupid husband had to go get himself murdered. Which, like wow, how rude. [ she stares at her pizza disdainfully, before lifting her slice in the air like cheers, followed by: ] Don't worry, I'm probably not going to cry.

[he doesn't know ... how to be comforting. so he doesn't even try. he's prob been avoiding vi bc it reminds him too much of his parents tbh.] I'm sure that's what he said, right? Like, "getting married to you sucks, so I'm gonna get myself killed, bye." What kind of dream was it?

[ she makes a face because of course that isn't what happened. ] I dunno, some weird one. They never make sense to me. [ her head shakes, the dream isn't reall important, it just set her on edge and exacerbated what she's already feeling. ] Don't mind me, I'm just being bitter because I feel... inconvenient.

How are you inconvenient?

[ she hadn't wanted to tell failboat she was pregnant, which is why she hadn't until absolutely necessary and she's already rethinking that decision, so she is loathe to tell anyone else. but it's also necessary to the explanation. ugh. ] I don't know, it's irrational okay, but I can't really help it when most people avoid me like it's catching.

Oh. I'm sorry. [ it's supposed to be like a general "i'm sorry, that sucks" even if it should be a personal i'm sorry bcuz YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID ALEXANDER. but ... why would he ever apologize.]

It's fine. Sorry we missed the pride parade, sort of failed at being your wing man. No drag queens got to call me pretty, either. [ this time when she pouts it's with a little more levity and less self-absorbed unhappiness. still incredibly self-absorbed though. ] God, I miss that.

Honey, you look fabulous. Is that your natural hair color? I would murder a puppy to have boob like yours. Blah blah blah, there you go. You got the experience. [he shrugs, and just so she's sure — ] It's fine.

At least put some enthusiasm in it, I didn't believe that for a second. [ a beat. ] I barely have boobs. [ actually... she sits up straighter in her seat and glances down at her chest. ] Oh. Maybe a little bit.

I'm not capable of being enthusiastic, this is naturally how I sound. [he snorts] They're not bad. Sincerely, I wasn't joshing that time.
