There are plenty of missions that return to the castle a success - most of them, even. The defeated air of the solemn group that returns from their diplomatic mission to Andres Isle to hear the demands of dictator Dimitris Sarandis makes it quite clear that this wasn't one of those.

Starting with Sarandis' actual demands - for all Knights to withdraw from Andres under penalty of death, or for Wynn to offer his own head in return for Thomas' safe return - and ending with the unexpected, disturbing confession from Kat that she intended to stay behind on the island because she had "fallen in love with" the dictator, the events of the island made it very clear that Sarandis was cannily playing his hand to get the Knights where he wanted them.

Fred Jr. shoves open the doors with his unnatural strength, stalking in ahead of the group into the lobby. Whoever's on desk duty isn't going to have to roll a high wisdom check to see that these people are pissed... and distraught... and a myriad of other emotions on the bad end of the scale.

*I am changing the date of the briefing log and Andres log/live session to have taken place in September, to avoid us being in backdated hell forever, and to allow for a September squiring ceremony before apps are closed. Carry on... in the future!

[Helen goes out looking for Gus in his area in the woods surrounding the castle. She's not being particularly quiet about her approach, but she doesn't exactly stomp through the woods either. It only takes a few moments for her to realize that it's his mother on the phone. Reaching out, she touches his elbow gently as she moves into his space, giving a slight wave and a nod towards the phone as a silent request for him to tell his mother she's said hello. She won't interrupt, exactly. But she's also not going to turn around and leave. She only knows enough Korean to call him an idiot when he needs to be properly scolded. She won't really be eavesdropping.]

[ she gets a wan smile when he catches sight of her and her does relay the hello, a soft "helen" in the middle of all the korean. after a couple more minutes of talking he hangs up and tucks his phone back into his pocket. ]

Hey there, Normandy. Checking up on me before we storm the castle? [ HE KNOWS YOU HELEN MAGNUS. ]

[She gives a slight roll of her eyes at the nickname.]

Something like that. I had hoped I was through with wars. Suppose I should have known better.

Inescapable fact of life, isn't it. 'bout time we take Sarandis down.

I think a good many of us will sleep better once it's all said and done with. Perhaps Mellie will be able to get a chunk out of him.

[l o l totally the time to make jokes...]

[ look, he laughs. ] Please, she doesn't eat vermin.

I think, given the circumstances, she can sacrifice her good taste for the time being. We all must do things we aren't proud of in a war, after all.

[ laughs for eighty four years. helen, you are the best. when he's done laughing, he looks visibly relaxed. ]

I did not realize how tense I was.

[There he is, Helen smiles softly as Gus returns more to the way she's used to seeing him.]

I know. But I'm glad to see it wasn't irreversible. How are you? Really.

[ he shrugs. ] Worried. About Kat. Cora. Malina. [ malina so much. ] You.

[ not himself, of course, but gus never worries about himself. ]

Oh, no need to worry about me, dear. You know I always manage to come out of these things no worse for wear.

Yeeeeah, not gonna stop me.
