The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Oh my god, she is so cute.

[ it's actually a genuine compliment as lila waves her gloved fingers at the tiny little thing. of course, she's barely paying attention to hayley at all but ha! welcome to motherhood, officially secondary. ] Aren't you the most adorable thing still, hi there.

[ with her handle animal tiny human check of 25, the baby probably wants to be her best friend. or use her diamond necklace as a pacifier. we just don't know. or maybe she is familiar because lila basically lives in the kitchen in the middle of the night, what with the not sleeping, the odds on their having met already while lila was plowing through a disgusting amount of food are very, very high. so she adds, as an afterthought: ] Hey Hayley. You look nice.

[Olivia's chubby legs kick a bit in response, not that there's any real evidence to it being that over her thinking she still has socks on her feet, but it's there either way.]

Thanks, Lila. I'm mostly relieved that she hasn't opted to spit up all over me, but the night is still young.

Do you want me to hold her so you can eat? [ i rolled a will save to see if she would resist the urge to hold the baby and she crit failed. so she really wants to hold olivia but doesn't want to be like "omg let me hold that adorable monster". plus she is really serious about food all the time. food is gr8 and hayley is pretty chill. and looks like lila's best friend that she misses so there is some definite transference going on as to why she is generally nice to hayley. ]

[Hayley is grateful for the friendliness and honestly she's glad to have adult conversation, too.]

Are you sure? I have actually mastered the art of eating while keeping her in my arms.

Yeah, go for it. [ she holds out her hands for the baby. gimme gimme gimme. cats are basically hairy babies, she's got this covered. ] I already did my rounds welcoming the new kids, I deserve a reward.

[Hayley laughs and shakes her head, but shifts Olivia in her arms so that she can pass her over to Lila.]

I'm not sure I like my daughter being labeled a reward, but at least I get to move my arms a bit.

[ aww yeah, lila has this shit on lock. baby whisperer up in here, she holds olivia with her back against lila's chest so she can still see her mom and the rest of the party. if she can even see that far... probably not, oh well, it's the thought that counts. her gloved fingers tickle the baby's chubby little belly. ]

Range of motion is strangely satisfying, isn't it? [ man, she really hated being a cat. ] What do you think of the new recruits?

[Hayley still watches Olivia carefully, being slightly over protective, but it's not as if she knows Lila that well. They have their late night food run-ins, but she's still being cautious.

She's going to take advantage of her free arms and stretch a bit as she glances around.]

They seem young, but I guess I'm not that old either.

[bittersweeter]

I think it's because they're so new. I mean, I doubt I'm that much older than them but... [ but they look like peasants to her. it's basically how freshman look like fetuses when you're a senior. ]

No, I get it. I hung out with high schoolers for half a year when I was in Mystic Falls and most of them didn't look like they belonged in high school. [ha ha TVD casting.]

It's worse here. Aurelius is all adorable and young. Naive little fu-- [ oh right. baby. she has the grace to censor herself in front of the wee babe. ] Elf... is going to stay young and adorable forever. And then he'll be two hundred and look... twenty five.

[consequence]

Elves aren't the only ones that live a while. [She knows her daughter will outlive her by a lot. It's something that actually concerns her, something that makes her think about Tyler and what he said about her baby.]

We all have to deal with our differences.

[bittersweeter]

I, luckily, will die young and pretty. [ small miracles tbh. ] But there's loads of people here who have the immortal gig. Nathan, apparently, is literally immortal. [ /spills all his secrets :) w/e it's not like nathan actually keeps it close to the chest. ]

What's Nathan? Is he an elf too?

Nope. Just an adorable weirdo. [ stellar explanation. ] He's a squire from, like, the Boston branch. [ lila doesn't actually care. ] It blew up and they all came here. Well, the survivors did.

[consequence]

Do they blow up often?

[bittersweeter]

That's the only one since I've been here. Catastrophes seem to be pretty rare.

[consequence]

That... is almost comforting. [Hayley makes a gesture to reach for Olivia, not that she doesn't trust Lilah, but she really just doesn't trust Olivia. She's making a face.]

[ hopefully hayley thinks of this when andres happens, but oh well! lila will be on andres so she won't have to see the ur wrong faces.

she passes back the baby easily. she's not going to run away with the kid, after all. ]

Just normal mission catastrophes.

Just for the record, the word catastrophe paired with normal -- doesn't ease any minds here.
