The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ lila is sitting at the bar chatting up the bartender (they're best friends basically since her real one is busy atm and this one comes with liquor) when kate approaches for a refill. lila squints because damn girl cleans up nice and she's not entirely sure it's the same woman she met in the library when she was knocking the cat out? but new yorker solidarity, it comes back to her. ]

Kate, right?

[alsohawkeye]

That's me. [ Kate turns and smiles at Lila as she leans a forearm on the bar, setting her empty wine glass down in front of her. She takes a second, glancing around for the bartender as she casts about for the name. ] Lila? Owner of Pizza Cat? [ Her smile ticks wider. She remembers, and though it was a brief meeting that and the New York connection clearly made a good first impression. ]

[bittersweeter]

The one and only. [ she's a little highlander about her name, so... if there was another lila... haha no really though, she's the only one. ] Settling in yet?

[alsohawkeye]

Sure. [ Kate says it like it may or may not really be true, but... sure, why not. Her shrug fits the tone, as does the crooked curve of her smile and the way she leans up onto the bar, grabbing the dude in the vest's attention to order a refill. She settles back as he pours and turns toward Lila again. ] Lots of new arrivals this month. What do you make of them?

[bittersweeter]

[ her nose wrinkles but lbr she doesn't think much of anyone at first sight. she does point out alisha, however, because she was cool. ] That one is okay. The recruiting teenagers thing is getting really obvious these last few months. And... that's saying that as a teenager.

[ it's weird. ]

Yeah? Who is she? [ Kate turns to look over her shoulder at Alisha where Lila's indicating her. She stays twisted that way as she accepts her re-filled wine and sips. ] Yeah, this place does skew pretty young, huh? Not that I'm not used to working with teenagers, but it's a little weird. Wynn likes to indoctrinate them early, I guess.

[bittersweeter]

Her name's Alisha. [ and that's basically all she knows. ] Apparently we teenagers used to be a novelty, but that sure isn't true anymore.

[alsohawkeye]

Oh, well. If her name's Alisha. [ Obviously she's awesome. Kate deadpans it and sips her wine, shrugging. ] You know who else prefers to recruit teenagers? Cult leaders. [ A pause, a gesture with her glass. ] And the military.

[bittersweeter]

My dad recruits poor college students. So add mafia to the list. [ she's very blasé, swirling her pinky nail through her drink. ]

[alsohawkeye]

[ Kate files that away but doesn't really react. Let's face it, she knows people with weirder parents. ] Mine too, when you put it like that. [ She smiles and lifts her glass. ] Publishing. He just calls them interns.

[bittersweeter]

Poor unpaid lambs. [ she smirks a little. well played. ] I guess Wynn has that going for him, we are phenomenally well paid.

[alsohawkeye]

That does make it feel a bit less cult-ish, it's true. [ Not that Kate actually seems concerned. She's sipping her wine with everybody else. ]

Right? Doesn't have the same Jonestown vibe when you're getting paid to actually do a job.

[alsohawkeye]

Not having to live in a shack definitely helps, too. [ She tips her glass around at their surroundings. ] You know when I assumed I'd probably been to my last black tie gala I wasn't exactly upset about it, but these are definitely more interesting than the sort I grew up with.

[bittersweeter]

Ditto. [ except lila never assumed she would stop going to parties. she's a princess, parties are her thing. and, oddly, they'd made her less homesick when she first arrived. funny that. ] But Wynn does love a party. Celebrate the little things, I guess. In case all these new squires bite it on their first mission.
