With most of the team staunchly convinced that about to go check out Area 51, they head off to Guadalajara, Mexico, to investigate local rumors of a crash site outside the city. One of the best things about this little trip is that even in February, it's in the seventies, so there's definitely a vacation air to arriving in the bustling city. They'll need to rent a car and head out in the direction of the supposed crash in the flat countryside. It's a fourteen hour flight so get comfortable.

[ it's time to plan, y'all. aka malina asks them all to gather round for a planning sesh once they're in the air. kali is cheerfully turned around, leaning over the back of her seat to listen to whatever malina has to say whilst drinking her tiny can of sprite. ]

[Malina's brought a bunch of gear with her including professional quality cameras and equipment as well as notebooks. Her familiar, a red tailed hawk named Harry, is sitting on the chair next to her, looking not pleased with being stuck in a plane but it's not like he can keep up with the plane as it flies. Occasionally she reaches over and stroke the front of his plumage to calm him down as she speaks.]

Alright, first things first. Who speaks Spanish?

I do. [ failed how to act like a normal, but a+ at spanish. ]

[ambitionist]

[alex raises his hand.] Yo soy un pinguino.

[there's a 100 percent chance he said exactly what u thought he said.]

A very cute penguin. You had a very good teacher. [ because i am a penguin is vital info tbh. ]

[Carol shakes her head. She's pretty sure that once she knew more languages than she does now, but repeated brushes with amnesia have ensured Spanish is not one of them.] Sorry, nope.

As long as one of you does, that's all we need.

[She glances over at Alex and Kali with a smile that should be worrisome, before handing them each notebook.]

Since the two of you hablas Espanol - [that's pretty much all the Spanish she knows, it's wrong, and her pronunciation is terrible (knowledge language 7)] - you guys will be doing most of the talking to the locals. Alex can take point and Kali can act as his translator if you need a cover. I figure the easiest route for us to go in is as journalists - pick any source you like, just make sure we all know it in case they check their stories.

[There's a beat before she turns to Carol, this time holding out a camera.]

You and me will be on documenting the scene and anything else we can find. Take lots of pictures, take lots of notes. We want to be able and give as clear a picture as we can back to Wynn.

[felidity]

[ she opens her mouth to correct, but stops instead to play with her notebook. ]

Um. I'm a really, really, really, ridiculously bad liar. [ for the record. ] Very bad. I don't have to... talk to people, right? What if someone asks me a question?

[ambitionist]

I'll do all the talking, kiddo, no worries. I'm basically a professional liar. [not even 1 percent worried.] Just be like I don't know anything, I'm just his assistant, and let me handle it.

[Malina nods in agreement.]

What he said. All you have to worry about is watching his back and taking notes.

[ ...notes on his back? no, no, that can't be right but she's all distracted because alex called her kiddo and that's like a nickname right? cool. anyway, what he said, got it. ]

I can do a flyby before we officially enter the scene. See what the view from above looks like. If there are giant aliens letters that say "COME EAT HERE GALACTUS" or anything like that.

[Malina glances back to her because flying. That's new. But she'll just nod in agreement before continuing.]

Sounds good. So long as you can do it without being identified as another UFO.

[She's not doubting or being snarky, she's just trying to go for subtle here.]

Too bad we didn't get to take one of the stealth jets. [he knows christos has one and is hella jelly. poncey lil drow fuck.]

I'll stay high enough that people'll just think bird or plane if they notice me at all.

Good. So let's do it. Anyone have any other questions for me before we go?

[ kali raises her hand calmly. ]

What if the alleged aliens mind control us into taking over the universe? If I proclaim myself queen of Mars, do you think Wynn will revoke my knight status?

That one guy is king of Andres Isle and still a knight, so probably not.

[She laughs.]

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. But for right now, let's just hit the ground running and get as much information as we can.

[felidity]

[ after the grown ups rent a car (kali is too young), they climb into the car and kali quickly sets a course for the supposed crash site. kali is apparently the best navigator in the world (navigate nat 20), so she has got this shit covered and is happy to direct alex, glancing over at him from the passenger seat. ]

Okay, take a left out of the parking lot.

[ambitionist]

[his drive crit fail takes them out of the parking lot ... and into a ditch. yay! I HOPE YOU WERE BUCKLED UP.]

Oh, for fuck's sake. Son of a bitch. Kali, come help me with this. [gonna get the car out of the ditch ... and then carry on with no other problems ok. X( (drive 15)]

[I hope you all are prepared for the very unhappy red tailed hawk who is in this car that landed in a ditch. Harry is squawking unhappily in the back seat between Malina and Carol, while Malina tries to sooth him the same way she did on the plane.]

You know, if we wanted to go off-roading, I would have drove.

[She couldn't help herself.]

That was fun! I've never been in a dramatic car crash before.
