Cordelia and Steve have gotten together to plan a rather fun party to celebrate Sarandis being taken down. Abbie even managed to grab them a rather awesome band to entertain the guests and everything else was hand picked and decided on by Cordy and Steve. It's not as fancy as a squiring after party, but it's just as fun. The ballroom has been "dressed down" a little to match the relaxed atmosphere. Enjoy yourselves!

[She gives a small shrug.]

Personally? He's hurt enough people I care about where I don't give a shit. The guy is dead, we won - we deserve a freaking party.

[ Steve does keep expecting to wake up in the middle of the night to find his room on fire. That's how little he actually thinks of Archer. Which is probably wrong of him, but he's willing to be wrong and not right. Hopefully.

He doesn't fight Felicity. He lets her lead him outside because he probably needs this. Once they're clear of the guests he takes a deep breath. ]

I know we did a good thing with Sarandis, but I just keep thinking about the cost.

[She pauses for a moment as she lets him speak, before nodding slowly.]

I've found that there are very few missions where there isn't a cost involved. And I'll admit, Archer's actions were wrong in a lot of ways, but as much as I hate to admit it - there was one area where he had a point.

This was the Slovechnian police force. Wynn said it himself, Valentin and Sarandis were friends. We didn't know who there Sarandis might have had on his side. I'm not saying what Archer did was right, but I can't say that it didn't come from a reasonable place.

I dunno. I'm mingling, but I'm not sure they wanna hear my story.

[ What happened at the airfield wasn't his story to tell. He was just a passive viewer sorta. ]

I think they like it better when you tell it.

[ Steve understands that Sarandis needed to be stopped. He hurt too many people. Most of them who were on that mission. He tried to stab Alainn and wound up getting Rose instead. He needed to be put down, but he worries about what happened before too much. It was all just speculation. Too many unknown things. ]

There's nothing reasonable about lighting someone on fire when you don't know what side they're even on.

[She tips her head to the side.]

Says the guy who was throwing a metal shield at some of them with head shots. While you may not have gone to the same lengths as he did, you can't say that you didn't do damage either.

[Just ... putting that out there.]

Yeah. The difference being I tapered back so I didn't kill those people because I understand the difference between lethal force and nonlethal. He doesn't.

[ Because knocking someone unconscious and lighting them on fire is totally different, Felicity. ]

[Yeah, Felicity's not convinced.]

Head injuries are still super serious. Brain damage doesn't fix itself, and your non-lethal damage could have had way more lasting consequences. But that isn't my point. My point is that sometimes people do things they can't take back because they think it's what they have to do to protect their team. Placing the blame solely on Archer isn't going to solve any problems because he isn't the only one at fault.

And at the same time, they also have to live with that. It's not as easy as it sounds, or ... how they can make it out to be.

[ He doesn't respond to the first bit because there's still a massive difference. Steve feels bad about having to stop those men. Archer didn't feel remorse. Felicity wasn't there to witness him screaming "fuck the police" and looking like he was having the time of his life. That's what worries Steve. ]

I've done plenty and made plenty of calls. But you did not see how excited he was to be wielding fire at those cops. I just don't buy that he felt bad about any of it.

[She purses her lips for a moment, because she knows some people are pretty good at lying, even to themselves.]

And he's not required to show you that he does.

[She sighs.]

Look, maybe he doesn't see it as a bad call now. Maybe he will later. But trying to force him to feel remorse about it isn't going to fix the problem. Besides, the person he was accountable to in that room was Wynn, not you, and Wynn responded accordingly. If you had waited five minutes before storming out, you would have seen that.

[ She's not even going to snicker, because Dawn has done that herself. Many times. ] I totally know what you mean. We don't really get to see many parties like this usually. What with the more relaxed vibe and, you know, the dead evil dictator.

A long few. [ She half-shrugs. ] All part of the gig, right?

And a sore loser. We rooted his ass right off Andres Isle a couple years ago and he couldn't recognize when he was good and humiliated.

I guess I can understand why Wynn just doesn't take on them all.

[ He heard about the fire table incident. The part that really makes Steve angry is that he blew up like that with actual babies in the meeting. ]

Couldn't be in the same room as him. I'm not going to apologize for that. [ Though technically he already did apologize to Wynn about leaving so abruptly. ]
