It's hard to notice right away. For the most part, everything looks normal. The toilets flush in the right direction. The sky's still up. The buildings are still scraping the clouds. But something about it feels wrong, and the details come in waves.

The first wave is that no one is in the castle, or in England, or even in Saudi. It's hard to tell where they are, except it's close to the equator. Warm. Sunny. And a city. Maybe they're lucky. Maybe someone's there to greet them, if not in this bed that isn't theirs, then in this apartment that isn't theirs, or this house.

But out in the streets, things get stranger. Gone are the gleaming glass and metal frames of the skyscrapers, replaced with statuesque marble shaped into hellenic curves. Everything is bright colors and bronze. The metal coins people trade for currency have a wolf's head stamped on them, valid only in the Republic of Midgard.

The world is wrong. And no one but those in the room with Loki and Jordan seem to remember why.


[ ooc note; WHILE THE SAUDI ARABIA MISSION wraps up their encounter with Loki, everyone is invited to play in the whackadoodle AU that Loki created by making Jordan grant his wish to rule a world full of all the things Loki desires, where Thor is nowhere to be found. Consider this your dystopian/framework/everyone's dead AU event. Please note that only mission characters will remember the events of Earth-11, as they've only been transported to a parallel universe. Everything you play is for fun, not for character arc. ]

[ with a frustrated shriek, caroline hurls the phone into the water, turning back to kick the house. might as well go inside if she's going to have to hunger games her way out of this. she can use the weapons. so she's going to try the door and if it's locked she is going to break the door off it's freakin' hinges and throw it in the water too. (strength... nat 20)

does she smack right into an invisible force field because this is someone's actual sad house? for their sake she hopes not. ]

[ the cot beside daisy's work station abruptly starts to rustle, and a figure sits up in it, running a hand through mussed hair and reaching over to grab a shirt from where it hangs on the back of her seat. a sleepy voice that is all too familiar asks: ] Whozzat? [ and peter's head pokes up. ]

Daisy. [begrudgingly, like he's humoring a bratty child which is basically what it feels like because he has negative amount of patience for this.

and then ... peter exists. he can't decide if he's proud or annoyed??? there are just too many feelings right now.]

Are you ... what. Seriously?

[ nope, she just walks right in as the door sinks into the dark water outside. the place looks really sad - despite it not having an owner apparently, there is a pallet in one corner that might be a bed, or serve as one, occasionally. the weapons on the table merit a second look - spot check from here ]

[There would be more swearing, but Malina needs information still, so she'll just close her eyes, waving a hand as she does. Still, the fact that so many of her friends - alternate universe or not - are in one area and she's more than willing to trust Skye/Daisy in terms of what she can handle, but ...]

I don't think we need a doctor. But if you could just ... humor us for a second and catch us up on the last two years? Why are we in Paris?

[Paris was not a relevant location to any of them - at least not together. So that must be something unique to Loki's fantasy, even if the people aren't.]

[ she heads right for them because that was her goal in breaking in anyway. (spot 20 total) ]

[Riiiiight. She's just gonna go with her original plan and head over to that computer hub and see what she can figure out on her own because she's having all sorts of weird vibes about everything right now (computer use 23).]

[ there's a short sword, a pair of kukris, and a dagger. all of them have dried blood on the blades. ]

yes, she can drink blood and think that is gross. have some respect for your things. that she is promptly going to steal even though she doesn't know how to use any of them. whatever, she will learn. tyler made her watch crouching tiger, hidden dragon. ]

[ a grim unhappiness flashes over Skye—Daisy's—face. ]

[ it's brief, conquered quickly by alarm as she twists around to stop jane. ]

Quill, will you— [ She waves at Alex and Malina, then heads over to stop Jane. ] Don't touch that. It's running a hack I designed to try and get past our Benevolent Overlord's safeguards.

[ except the moment she reaches for it, something steps from the shadows, a hand vise gripping her shoulder and whirling her around. she finds herself staring into the familiar and brightly crimson eyes of ...

[ yanking on that shirt, peter looks between them all, squinting at alex and malina ] Just how hammered did you two get last night?

Davin! [ her shriek this time, right in his face, is relieved and she goes to throw her arms around him. they're not even the closest, but literally anyone familiar would get the same treatment. ]

[recycling]

[ he goes stiff, practically recoiling as if he thinks this is an attack, one hand gripping her arm before he realizes what is happening ]

... Caroline?

[There's a wry smirk at that.]

Clearly not enough. Just ... I know this sounds batshit, but please?

Duh! [ why is he not happy to see her? she knows she can be abrasive with her almost psychotic chipperness but she still thought-- well, maybe he is just startled because she is hugging him in this--

she jerks back suddenly. ]

What are you doing in this terrible place?

[so deadpan, just going along with it in hopes that it will expedite the exposition process] Very. I also have a history of seizures, so who knows what it looks like in my brain. [which is true ... so it's fine.] If you could just catch us up to speed, that would be great. I hate when my brain damage interferes with the rest of my day.

Great. We talked about this guys. [ he runs a hand through his hair and glances back at daisy, before shrugging and continuing ] After what happened in London, there weren't very many of us left, not who saw a point in fighting anymore at least. Some people had lost too much.

The rest of us made our way here, remember? To the old Knights HQ underground? This was supposed to be one of the first headquarters, or at least the dungeon of it.

What I have to do to survive. Something you're clearly not worried about anymore if you came back here. [ he keeps her by the arm and moves to close the door, glancing out at it, paranoid ] What the hell were you thinking?

Hey, I'm all for a little rebellion.

[She nods a bit, as she glances around. If this is the old Paris HQ then at least she knows her way around. Being a Knight for too damn long has it's benefits.]

Going to take a swing and say our Benevolent Overlord is Loki?

I wasn't thinking! I just fell into the water. [ which, hey! she pokes his chest with her index finger. ] Did you hear me splashing outside and you didn't come get me?

[Jane frowns, heading back over after being told not to mess with the computers.]

I really wish I had my equipment right now...

[ Daisy points to Malina like ding ding. ]

So you do remember. I guess he leaves a worse impression. SHIELD came in—what was left of it—and tried to help us mop up, but ... soon, their resources were depleted too. This is all that's left.

[he wonders what happened in london, how much was lost in terms of people and things but quickly decides that he's not going to waste his time getting verklempt over some alternative timeline that SHOULD NOT EVEN EXIST because of fucking loki.]

It's not supposed to be like this.

[ he hesitates, shaking his head ] You know that's what I'm supposed to do.
