For David, keeping close to Knight HQ is more of a necessity than an actual choice. When a guy spends the past twelve years living in a wasteland of magic, gods and Neo Nazis, it's hard to say how he's supposed to behave in a world that's actually civilized. Never mind the fact that the duplicity of being a knight, in addition to the fact that the magic of this world is very different from the magic of his own, and he's not comfortable being in the outside world. It doesn't feel like a place where he can be comfortable in his own skin. The Knights give him a sense of purpose, and it's not as though there isn't plenty of things to do, but he knows that in the back of his mind he knows he's going to have to be out in the world for something more than missions.
Which means, he knows, more than the forced socialization at the squire parties.
(He doesn't remember this being so hard before, not that his memory can really be trusted due to the veil. Maybe it's because he had people with him, people he trusted, people who's faces and names he can no longer remember and he desperately wants to. He can still feel the loss of them, even if he can't feel them.)
He tries putting himself where he knows people will be, all the while trying to learn as much about the world as he can. While most of his mornings are spent training or working out in the gym, early afternoons he can be found in the computer lab trying to acclimate himself to twelve years worth of new technology, or in the TV room watching the news. (Someone will probably eventually tell him that watching the news is not productive if he wants to catch up on pop culture too, but he ... has never really cared about pop culture.) He tries to absorb as much of the information as he can, understand the politics of it all, but he also doesn't know how much of it he can trust, and that worries him more than anything else.
In the early evening, he can usually be found outside, at least if the weather is good. Being indoors all the time doesn't suit him, and as much as he appreciates the very comfortable accommodations that Wynn has provided him with, he can't shake the fact that he should be sleeping outside, among his men, with his sword at his side. Occasionally he looks to the woods, briefly entertaining the idea of going to see his mentor, given that he's supposed to be learning from him, after all.
Nine times out of ten, he decides it isn't worth it to lose his temper.
