[ A few weeks after settling in, Lissa gets a pleasant rapping on her door at a decent hour of the morning. It's that time. ]

We have a pretty good success rate, yes. Not all issues are so simple to resolve, but we usually do more good than harm.

I imagine that's the most anyone can hope for.

[ oh hey look it's the dining room! people are scattered about the tables here and there, and many look up and acknowledge anastacia with a smile. ]

Have you met many others yet?

Not many. A few at my squiring and then a few at the briefing. [A pause, like she is struggling with whether to ask something, but she does, lowering her voice.] Is Sir Solace always so...reticent?

[silvermaid]

Solace is a cleric of Ilmater, god of willing suffering. His clergy looks to take other's pain onto themselves to alleviate the burden from others, and a long life of doing that will leave its mark on any man or woman.

Oh my... oh. [Lissa wants to take other people's pain away and the effects of her healing aren't always that good for her, but she can't imagine... Solace has just shot up a billion points in her opinion and she suddenly wants to trade "dates" with Sydney.] I didn't know.

[silvermaid]

He certainly doesn't advertise it. That's part of their whole martyrdom dogma - they'll drop everything when there's a person in need in their path, but they're remarkably modest about it.

Younger Ilmatari have a harder time masking their pain, but he's been at it for some time. It's probably all left him very... cynical on the outside.

To be fair, I don't think his reserve was entirely unwarranted. [Their mission group... is silly.]

Oh? [ DEETS GIRL as anastacia steers her into the kitchen ]

We're going to a party for a New England socialite, some of the planning for aliases and covers got a little... [She clearly struggles to find a word that is appropriate and not rude.] Flamboyant. Not...as in gay, I mean, just very elaborate. At one point Sir Solace was going to be the manager of our pop band. Now he's just Sydney's dad.

[silvermaid]

Oh yes! My daughter, Faith, is going on that mission. And I know Sydney as well - we're the ones who found the poor dear when she first arrived through the Veil.

[lastdragomir]

[She is suddenly really glad she didn't say something accidentally insulting.] Oh! Well yes, that's half our group, plus the boys, Thoster and Phineas. Sir Solace is out numbered by our youth.

[silvermaid]

It's good for him. I know hanging around the young ones always makes me feel younger.

[lastdragomir]

I wouldn't think it would take much. [Lady you ridiculattractive. And young. How?]

[silvermaid]

Well, I have been around for over a century.

[lastdragomir]

No.

[No really, say what?]

[silvermaid]

'Fraid so.

[lastdragomir]

But you look so young. [She crosses to the fridge to grab a bottle of blood, reaching up to crack open a cabinet as she closes the fridge.]

[silvermaid]

[ anastacia stares at the bottle for the briefest space of a second, before continuing, looking away politely. ] For a human, maybe. But I'm not all human.

[lastdragomir]

Oh. [That's, well, not entirely new, but Lissa can't think of how to broach what Anastacia is so she just grabs an opaque glass and pours the bottle in. She takes a sip, licks her lips and turns back to her mentor.] Where would I find toast?

[silvermaid]

[ anastacia goes to pull out some bread from the pantry, as she cheerfully volunteers the info lissa is too polite to ask for anyway ]

Are you familiar with aasimars? Some people don't seem to recognize the term from their worlds.

I've heard of them. Andie, she said she is an aasimar, that she's decended from a god in the Shadow World? [The statement lilts up at the end, turning it to a question.]

[ anastacia nods, a smile lighting her features again at the link ] That's just what it means.

Two gods, in my case. Goddesses, to be more precise.

[lastdragomir]

[Things Lissa feels like she will never fully understand? Gods and goddesses... existing. She believed in.. well, God. It's a huge thing for her to reconcile with her personal beliefs. She blinks, a little startled, at the idea of divine parentage from both sides, but her expression is mainly curiosity mingled with confusion.]

I... wow.

They're the impressive ones, not me. I'm really just like anyone here, and I don't remember my life before this world, even if I've learned a little bit about it now.
