It's that time again. New squires would have heard the word come 'round that there would be open weapons orientation this Friday - which is also open to anyone who just wants to come spar with the newbies as well. As before, at the top of the main staircase is the entrance to an incredibly spacious room, that has gym and weight training equipment on the wall near the door, and then lots of old school training dummies and more at the far end. A glass door enters into a firing range, and another pair of large doors on the farthest wall lead to the armory.

Ser Jaime stands in front of the armory doors, looking rather disinterested in all the squires amassing. He polishes his sword, standing in his shiny white and gold armor and, as he waits more or less patiently for people to show up.

Some of the squires' mentor Knights will have accompanied them - others will have left them to their own devices. Everyone's welcome to tag into threads or make their own!

[Once everyone's gathered, or at least as close to everyone as Jaime's willing to wait for, he puts his sword in his scabbard and steps up, raising a hand for silence.] All right, quiet you lot. I've been tasked with showing you how training works here. For some reason we do it inside as opposed to outside, where you can clean up the blood much more easily. [Modern knights are strange.

He holds up his plastic key card.] This square is actually a key, as you've probably learned by now. [It is still weird to Jaime, okay, he's working on it.] It can be used to open the doors behind me and get to the armory whenever you'd like. And the archery range is through those other doors [He gestures with the key card] though many knights use explosive ranged weapons known as guns. [He rolls his eyes at the idea.] A real knight should know how to use a sword. [Guess who... can't use guns at all.]

You can find arms and armor in the armory. Take what you'd like when you need it. You all can get some sort of gun, but talk to Ser Fredrick about it first. You need some sort of permission. [That Jaime doesn't have....]

This room is always open, and considering the Dragon's Hide is the biggest sect in the castle, there's almost always someone up here willing to spar or teach. If you have any serious questions, seek Ser Dovan Ironsides, the section leader, in the Hide wing, which is down the back hall to the right when you get up the steps.

When you get injured, as you should if your teachers are good enough, go find a cleric straight across the hallway.

[Once they're done with the tour, Jaime uses the keycard, sliding it through the reader. the red light goes green and the doors depress, drawing back to reveal a room full of racks and racks of swords, maces, flails, morningstars, pikes, staffs, bows of all kinds, and more guns lining the walls in intimidating quantities. there's also plenty of armor, of both a modern and old-fashioned variety. Jaime looks back at the squires and raises an eyebrow.]

Who'd like to choose first?

Melee

[Once melee fighters have found a close quarters weapon of choice, Jaime directs them back out to the circles painted on the floor of the training room, and he draws his own sword as well, gesturing at the lines.] We'll start with sparring. You can pair up, and pick a circle. Keep your fight confined in the bounds of the lines. The clerics are right across the hall, but this is about learning. Try not to injure your opponent too badly.

You can always spar with your mentor, if you brought them. Or me, if you're feeling particularly confidant.

[So, when he heard about the training session he had mixed feelings. Fear, in large part. He didn't want to fail. Then there was the budding excitement. If he could get his hands on something anything and make it work he'd lose the nervousness about seeing battle.

He makes sure he's wearing his most comfortable clothes to allow room for movement. It's not much. Just a pair of basketball shorts and an old t-shirt, but it does the job. It might make him look a little sloppy but he doesn't really have a lot to work with.

He stands awkwardly to the right of the crowd trying to blend in. He's not the best at subtlety.]

Yeah, what about the Knights without any real athletic experience? I mean- not all of us have seen battle. A lot of us did work behind the scenes.

Does it have to be a sword?

[Judging by their size and weight he was sure they'd just be awkward to him and cause more problems. With the wide array of weaponry to choose form he'd like to know.]

[Jaime shoots him a scornful look. As far as he was concerned, those with no athletic experience had no business being knights. But he knew around here they accepted all sorts. Even women.]

I suggest getting athletic experience quickly, or you'll most likely die when you do see battle.

No. It doesn't have to be a sword. Perhaps you'd like a nice, wooden staff? No sharp parts for you to hurt yourself on.

[Brantley walks to one of the racks and picks up a sword. He swings the sword a few times and even with both hands he can't swing that without being wobbly. (dex 10) At least he doesn't fall again this time.]

Yeah, I think I'll stick to my fists.

[He returns the sword back to its socket.]

[ Stepping forward his long black trench coat swishing as he did, Sebastian raised a hand. He was looking at the weapons with almost glee, mostly at the swords. They were a thing of beauty to him and surely this man must have great skill to be trusted to such weapons, thus earning a bit of premature respect from the new Squire.]

I would Sir, I favor a bastard sword.

[ The square keys were still strange to Sebastian as well. It made little sense but who was he to judge it? He agreed with Jaime however, why train inside? Blood comes out of carpet harder then grass.

Yes, he liked this knight. He seemed to have a proper sense of how things should work. This place had not been what he expected until now, well outside of Bo. Bo was pretty damn cool.]

Only one question, when do we start?

["As you should"... OMG Jaime, lets not propose people getting hurt, okay? Lissa doesn't want to be here. She isn't any good at weapons. She only learned how to use a stake for the specific purpose of turning Dimitri back to Dhampir. She isn't aggressive, she doesn't want to hurt people! This is why she is a cleric.

Which is why this cleric will be hanging back and only half listening to Jaime's spiel because she sure won't be learning how to use a weapon kthnx.]

Guns and archers? You're with me. [ he gestures to the doors that lead to the shooting range, waiting inside with a friendly smirk for all who come, and gesturing at the weapons rack inside. ] Bows, if you need 'em. Otherwise you can practice with your Excal.

[ someone's all folded arms and bitch face in the back ] I hope you're not actually suggesting it's good training technique for instructors to hospitalize their squires. [ she don't even sound skurred. just unimpressed with that level of bullshit. ]

As soon as we've seen if the others have any real questions. [PATIENCE BRO. WE'LL GET THERE.]

Of course not. I'm suggesting squires hospitalize other squires. [It's entirely different!] It's not like injuries matter much at all with all this magic around.

The hand-and-a-half? [Jaime nods and pulls one out for him.] How's the weight of this one?

[Besides why would someone still use a sword to cut through metal walls?]

[ Taking the sword as it was handed over he tested it. It wasn't too much heavier then the one he was used too. He moved it from hand to hand to test the weight.] This one will do quite well I am certain.

[He shrugs.] My suggestions wouldn't change without it. But if you're not getting bruised and scraped, you're not learning very much.

A 'blow torch' [whatever the fuck that is] won't help much when your opponent slices your head off. Nor will bare fists. You'd do well to learn to use a real weapon.

[Nor would a sword if it is used by Brantley. But there's nothing wrong with learning new things, besides swords are kind of cool, don't you think? Spear is cooler, though.]

[He grabs the previous longsword and wields it two-handed.]

You have met these other knights, right? Some of them have never seen a horse before. [He is so judgy of all of them. Let's just all be impressed he's not saying some of them are women.]

Then to answer you proper, I have been trained with swords since I was tall enough to hold one.
