The party arrives in the bustling city of Cairo around mid-day, where it's a beautiful 70 degrees outside compared to the cold London January they came from. Along with whatever gear they brought individually for tomb raiding*, Wynn has also sent them with a chest of 2,000 gold pieces - because the woman who has promised to take them to meet Raegos (the only living man who can claim to have seen the lost tomb) plans to meet them at an antiquities auction.

Wynn has pre-arranged with the woman, who goes by the name of the Mithral Scarab, to recognize the party by the fact that they will cast several bids at the auction - and all of their opening bids will always be exactly ten gold more than the starting price. Once she has recognized them, she will find a way to show them a symbol of the Knights of the Silver Dragon discreetly to identify herself, and they are to follow her away from the crowd. Raegos' rumored paranoia concerning anyone else learning his location seems well demonstrated by the levels of security embedded in Scarab's directions.

The auction itself is a direct result of the recent elemental-driven storm that has unearthed a number of structures long buried in the desert. Some industrious tomb raiders have already taken to looting the lesser pyramids, and this underground sale promises to deliver some of the discovered goods into the hands of eager collectors. Wynn's generous supply of furnished gold was delivered to them with explicit instructions to purchase anything that they thought might be an item of actual valuable historical or magical significance, to become the property of the Knighthood.

[ lis'sa nods and heads outside... where phineas would discover that his little book ... is not in that basket. :) ]

[Suddenly uncharacteristically hysterical, Phineas upends the basket, and begins digging through just to be sure.] No... no... NO! [After that he gets up and paces - totally ignoring looks and comments as he processes what's happened. Then without a word he stomps back into the tent, to confront the thief.]

Tell me where it is, you goblin-faced sack of pig shit. [He scoops one of the daggers up from the pile of gear and menacingly points it at the man.] Or I'll start taking fingers. [Intimidate of 15. Phineas can try to be intimidating.]

[lissatrinall]

[ the halfling gives phineas the cheekiest grin ever.

"I'm certain the police will be very interested in why you resorted to such insane, bloodthirsty behavior, when they find I don't have whatever it is you're searching for."

lis'sa comes in behind phineas, putting a hand on his shoulder. ] ... Riddick turned his belongings inside out, Phineas. Are you sure it was him?

[thesleeper]

[Death Glare. Phineas grinds his teeth angrily.]

[He throws the dagger into the ground, and looks a little embarrassed by his outburst.]
I'll need some chalk, then.

[He starts to walk hurriedly towards the marketplace, wanting to be rid of this whole situation.]

[ it's dimitri and ella that come across some valuable information poking about the city.

first, that a mask meeting the description given by raegos is located in the Exhibitory here in Cairo. with neferet's assistance, they do a bit more digging, however, and discover that said mask is merely a nearly perfect replica, and that the real mask resides in the vault of the Black Reliquary, the private antiquities collection of the Crook Bearer, who was present at the auction earlier. the reliquary resides within the walled compound of his family mansion. ]

[This ought to be swell. Phineas meets back up with the group after re-securing some chalk, and other reagents he kept tucked in hollows in his journal. Damned thieves.]

Black Reliquary? Sounds exceedingly welcoming...

[sorceresslite]

Oh! Oh, but that bloke. Lis'sa, you said he had a bit of a rivalry with the curator, yeah? Might be this is why. [ but not important. ] That cute shady bloke said he'd do some special services to my crown, maybe he can help us break in.

[lissatrinall]

[ lis'sa pulls up her drakenet phone to show them a photo from a satellite, an overhead shot of the crook bearer's estate. constructed in the shape of a giant ankh, the smaller, obsidian building is the one lis'sa points to. ]

It appears to have only one entrance: these double doors on the southern side. [ she raises an eyebrow at ella ] You're certain he wouldn't go blabbing to the Crook Bearer instead?

[thesleeper]

I could go alongside him and keep an eye on him? Make sure he doesn't double-cross us. He wouldn't even know I was there. I've... got ways. [Awkward. Change the subject;] or maybe we could all go, and just hope no one is home?

[lissatrinall]

It seems foolish to send everyone. If the infiltration team is taken into custody, it will be all the more difficult to get word back to Wynn.

[sorceresslite]

I'm not certain of anything, if y'must know. But it's worth a shot. And I can go with him. I'm small. Very hard to notice.

[lissatrinall]

Very well. Go speak to him, then. See if you can get him on board.

[sorceresslite]

Got it. [ and ella flounces off to find her future platonic husband. spot 16? ]

[ he's in fact wandering through the bazaar, accompanied by some of his guards, picking up a piece of fruit here, an expensive necklace there, sometimes gesturing to one of his entourage as he wanders away. they dole out the money for it and continue on after him. he sees ella coming and slows down, smirking. ]

Well, well.

I thought I'd see you again.

[sorceresslite]

Yeah? [ a smile brightens her face and she reaches up to push the scarf back from her very bright hair to look up at him. ] I dinnae have time to polish my tiara before I could find you again, but I was wondering if you had a mo' for a wee chat? Maybe in private? [ she fixes him with a hopeful little smile, glancing at his guards like "away from fucking them, please" (diplomacy 23) ]

[ he considers for half a moment, then looks back at them and gives them a little wave, nodding at a nearby vendor tent that's a little larger and full of rows of jewelry. ] Will this do?

[sorceresslite]

[ oh jewelry, so shiny! he is rewarded with another bright smile, her blue eyes sparkling with delight. ella loves shiny things. and jewelry. and gold. actually... no, she just got ridiculously distracted by the bright and shiny, running her fingers across the rows and rows of oh but i want them all they're so beautiful. (will save crit fail) actual kid in a candy shop. ]

[ she's still very pleased with his attention ok, but aodhagán swans into the tent like oh hi GET THE FUCKING SHOW ON THE ROAD, GINGE, twisting around her legs, tail flicking in boredom. ]

Are you mates with the Crook Bearer? [ because if he is... she won't ask him to break in with her obviously. (gather info 16) ]

[ balls to wall, lis'sa never should have let ella do this. ] You wouldn't... want to break in to his vault with me and, hmm, liberate something that doesn't belong to him, would you? [ diplomacy 23, she seems excited by the prospect. hopefully it's contagious. ]
