The Knights take off for Katoomba, Australia, to investigate a tale of a temple to the goddess of magic Mystra that was erected very suddenly and mysteriously, seemingly unknown to other Mystran clergy in the world.  A bizarre tale of a cleric being chased out with gunfire, and a missing bookseller with a connection to the church have left Wynn worried about what might be going on within the walls of the temple.  It is constructed a short distance from the actual city proper, up the river.

I don't know if I have either, but Mystra's certainly of interest to me. I figured this was as good a time as any to expand my knowledge on the subject.

Because of your magic, you mean?

[trebond]

Not from my world.

[ Alanna shakes her head. ]

That much uncontrolled and evil magic ... it's part of the blade. It's not simply some enchantment placed upon it. I can feel it when I hold it. I've got to use my Gift just to wield it—it's why I've only tried a few times.

Yeah, and given what I am, I mean, Mystra must have some influence or opinion on that.

Your Gift meaning your magic, right?

[moonheart]

Well, we're probably not going to talk to Mystra, one way or another. But maybe her clerics will know something.

[missindependent]

[ sword at her hip, you say? right out in the open? well, fiona's just suddenly there, looking over her shoulder at the ipad, but much more interested in the uncommon. ] How long have you wielded a sword?

[missindependent]

Well, duh, I didn't think we were, but that doesn't mean I can't be interested in her... teachings and stuff, does it? Besides, it'll be nice to know more about the people we'll be dealing with, I guess.

When I read or learn stuff, I tend to remember it a little better ... At least when it matters.

I do. It's what we call those who come by magically naturally in Tortall because it's given by the gods.

[ She doesn't look bothered by the intrusion of her personal space, holding her ipad a little more aloft to let Fiona get a better look. ]

When I went to the castle to become a Knight in my world, they had the pages begin by learning to forge our own. After that, they required we keep it with us at all times while we were learning.

Have you learned anything about Mystra that I should know?

So kind of like clerics here? That's where my mom's magic comes from, anyway.

Exactly like a cleric. I do believe our Great Mother Goddess may even be the very same as the Great Mother that this world calls Chauntea. Both are associated with the harvest, though in Tortall, the Great Mother is the ruler of all the gods. [ Alanna's hand moves to close around the ember pendant around her throat. The goddess had given it to her with one another when she was still Jon's squire—a charm to detect the presence of magic, and one to ward off — well. One she wouldn't be using any time soon. ] She's beautiful.

I don't think I know very much about Chauntea. My family worships Lurue, mostly, the goddess of good talking beasts.

'Good talking beasts.' What precisely does that include?

[twinfucker]

[He ignores that look. As pissed as he is that she's existing in his space and he's supposed to follow her orders she's still... more tolerable than the panda std trio over there.]

So what, precisely, is it?

[twinfucker]

Depends. Will it involve any discussion of pandas and their afflictions?

An iPad, you prat. [ She bellows out a reluctant, exasperated sigh and hands it up to him. ] Haven't you bothered to look at anything since you've been with the Knighthood? It's a bit of technology made for taking pictures, retrieving messages, and playing games. Quite the effective time-waster.

Oh, you know: unicorns, pegasi, talking owls... Lots of things!

If it does, it's because you brought it up now.

[ after finally arriving, the gang gets a Knights vehicle delivered to them (thanks australia branch) and faith gets a nat 20 navigate check and rolled a 19 to drive them out there wooooo.

a cobbled stone path gradually ascends the low hill toward a steep-sided bluff, behind which runs the river. the path leads to the flat rampart of the whitewashed temple wall built right into the bluff. to the left of the open doors stand a large, stylistically simple statue of a woman. a smaller, freestanding stone building stands to the south of the temple. a spot check of 15+ notices two guards walking the top of the walls surrounding the outer courtyard that they glimpse between the doors. ]

[ Well, Alanna's spot check was 12 so no. She's carrying her shield on her arm, two swords at her hip, and a bag over her shoulder in leather armor. She's not so much worried about not looking adapted to the modern world when it's a temple of Mystra ok. ]

As long as we can manage it, we should lead the temple clergy to believe us tourists. They'll believe Jaime, Adi and I to be from Faerun—it should draw no attention for us to seek out such a temple.

Like a large phone? [He's not... completely blind to technology. Mostly because he's had to use the phone.] Can't be very interesting games if they're so small and flat. [Jaime isn't really aware of games where you have options other than win or die that are on the computer. Board games are a thing in Westeros, but animated game pieces are hard to wrap his head around.]

And how do you intend to pass the time, Sir Jaime? [ She snatches it back from him and clicks the hold button. ] Aggravating the lot of us with your deliberate ignorance?

Immortals, then. [ At least—that's what they call them in Tortall. They're not truly immortal, not all of them, but the catch-all fits regardless. ]
