The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope none of you are shy. They're all here to meet you.

[Wynn proudly watches the festivities from the front of the room, where people largely give him a wide berth, except for the elder Knights going up to discuss what are probably mission matters with him. He looks like he's got a lot on his mind, but he's here if anyone needs him]

[ Do you know the solution to the burden of power, Wynn? It's alcohol. ]

[ All right, so Arthur doesn't expect the Knight to get down with his bad self; isn't sure if he'd even be able to drink to excess without downing half a cellar. But he does approach with two glasses — and only one is for him. ]

'Spose it gets dull, after you've been to enough of them.

[ He's getting the idea it's best not to ask about the lack of music, or the lack of feast. ]

[Wynn's head tilts almost imperceptibly at the proffered alcohol, but he doesn't hesitate from taking the glass with a grateful air. It isn't the only time anyone's ever made the gesture before, but it's quite evident that it's been a long, long, long time since, and there's a hint of nostalgia in his eyes as he raises them back to sweep across the party.]

There's always a dynamic to observe. I would never call it dull. It's somewhat fascinating, I've always found, that which doesn't change, over time. Things that seem an inescapable part of the very nature of civilized societies.

Such as dancing?

[ With a thumb, Arthur spins his glass against his palm where the base is cradled, cool and wet with condensation. ]

[wynn]

[Wynn looks amused, and takes a sip] They danced even in your time, Arthur, didn't they? And it would seem they haven't stopped since.

[king]

The dances were slightly different, however.

[wynn]

Perhaps. But the reasons for dancing were not entirely dissimilar.

[king]

[ Arthur laughs at that, and drinks his drink. ]

And there's all the rest of it. There's so much pride and potential in a new kngiht.

[ He thinks of knighting ceremonies as an enjoyable part of his job — though some of his best knights never had a feast to call their own, he knows that much too. ]

[A fond look actually crosses his features as he looks across the gathered faces, running a thumb along the stem of his glass. A number of rings decorate the fingers on his hand, one of which is set with the curved dragon shape that serves as the Knight's symbol]

Yes, I think that's precisely it. The promise that each of our members brings with them, of the deeds they may accomplish, the ways they might grow. Who they may become.

[He turns a sparkling eye to Arthur, and the pride on his countenance is unmistakable] That can never grow dull.
