The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Sweets always tries to come to all of the squiring parties, just to mix and mingle and get to know the new squires. He doesn't go out on missions much, but he's always around if the knights need someone to talk to.

When he meets up with Malia at the food table, he sticks with making idle conversation.]

Do you like shrimp?

[Apparently the shrimp ones are really good.]

I like deer. [Which she believes is an acceptable response. She knows that Pizza is the default, but he was asking her about a specific animal.]

They don't have deer on any of these, though. Pizza is also good. [She tries to cover all bases.]

I like pizza too. There's a great pizza place in the middle of London that I like to go to. They have really good pepperoni.

[There's a pause.]

I know a couple of restaurants that make venison dishes too, if you want to give those a try?

[animalistic]

[She lights up at that. No one has ever even offered to try and help her with that sort of thing.]

Really? That would be nice. No one seems to want to talk about me eating wild animals for years.

[That's ... curious. Sweets tips his head to the side for a moment before he goes with the obvious answer.]

Were your family hunters?

My dad hunted, but he wasn't a hunter.

No, I was a coyote.

Really?

[There's a beat as he clarifies, but from his tone it's not as though he disbelieves her - he just wants to make sure he understands what she's saying, even if it seems rather obvious (diplomacy 25).]

Like ... fur and claws and everything?

Yes.

[a beat.]

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tell people that or not. There are vampires here -- so I don't think it's a mistake in the castle.

I think that would depend on if you're comfortable with sharing it. Generally the castle is a safe space, but people and organizations outside of it may not be so understanding, so I'd be careful when you go on missions.

I have to control my shifting before I think I should go on any missions.

That is probably a good idea.

[It would be bad if she lost control on a mission and someone got hurt.]

Is that something you're working on with your mentor?

Yes. Well, I am trying to. It's -- it's different than at home. I don't have the same people here. They're here, but they aren't the same.

[Sweets has been around Shadowkind enough to read between the lines (sense motive 11), especially being one himself.]

They don't remember because of the Veil?

No. It's a lot to forget, but it happened.

All of them.

Except Liam.

The Veil can take a lot from people. I know some Shadowkind who forgot their entire life and had to learn everything from scratch. I know it may not feel like it, but in a lot of ways your lucky. There's a lot of unanswered questions you don't have to worry about.

[There's a pause as he takes another sip of his drink.]

But I also know how much it can suck to feel like you're alone here. I can't even imagine what it would be like if I had friends show up who'd forgotten me. I'm sorry that that's what you're dealing with.

[animalistic]

I just don't really know how to manage it. I just hate that I was part of their pack and now I feel like I'm alone again.

[She frowns.] It's nothing I can fix. I just have to handle it.

[She glances to him.] Thank you for the talk. I should leave now.

Of course. And if you want to talk again, my door's always open.
