[ No sooner had Gold been returned to the castle after a trying ordeal with Lila and Faye, than Wynn received a phone call alerting him to a situation occurring in the heart of London.  Having called for an emergency mission briefing, Wynn gathers together a team to deal with this threat....  ]

[ just another friendly day in the library. gar is at one of the large tables in the middle on her computer, surrounded by books, pretty much... falling asleep on her keyboard. who knows how long she's been at this lmao. she has a notebook next to her where she's also been scribbling but anyone who examines it more closely would think it looked like gibberish.

around the library can be found lydia, kate, and phineas doing whatever y'all wanna tag them in here doin'. ]

[ at a table nearby, lydia works on her usual shadowkind research, as if she's trying to make her own brain some kind of bestiary for supernatural creatures so that she can understand the potentiality for harm that comes from them. ]

[Kate likes books so she's probably curled up in a chair with one, though she's not likely researching. Give her a good, juicy, murder mystery any day of the week. She's aware enough to know who's around, but she's mostly focused on the novel at the time.]

[ alice swans in, looking around with a frown before she interrupts their solitude with her boston accent. ]

Yo, anyone seen Will Graham? Flannel, Old Spice, avid collector of dogs?

Man needs a fucking chip, I swear to God. I'm gonna tie him to the bed... [ she trails off into grumbles as she plops down at a table, flipping open an errant book. ]

[Kate glances over with a small smirk at Alice's muttering.]

Do they make those for people? I always thought they just track their phones or something.

That's assuming my Brawny paper towel boyfriend has his phone on him all the time. [ she waves a hand idly, flicking through the book she'd picked up. ] Wasn't important anyway, it can wait.

[Phineas sits behind a small pile of books, muttering to himself as he scribbles down notes and symbols. He's only slightly aware there's other people in the library - he's buy doing science.]

[Kate is completely blindsided by the sudden rocking of the castle, catching her just as she was getting up from her seat and knocking her to the ground, hard (balance 4). She catches herself on the ground, before looking up at the rest of the group with wide eyes.]

What the hell was that?

[ with a 14, gar manages to grip the table and not fall out of her chair, but her laptop is... knocked to the floor with a crash. sob. ] Oh!

[A total of 7 sends Phineas careening to the floor, buried amidst a pile of books and notes.]

[ Lydia effectively braces herself on the table (19 plus all her mods that I'm not looking up rn bc I made it. but she looks around wildly in what's indubitably more annoyance at being disrupted than panic. ]

What. The hell. Was that?

[ alice doesn't just stay in her seat, she bolts upright from it (balance 23), blue eyes wide and unnerved as she looks up at the ceiling before she starts moving to heave kate up from the floor like a fucking bamf. (str nat 20 lmao) ]

Something big enough to shake the whole fucking castle. [ gentle reminder that alice grew up in boston. the city where the knight's hq blew up. ] We need to get out of here, come on.

[Kate takes the hand to her feet, glancing around before reaching into her bag for her Excalibur. If the castle is under attack, then at least she's prepared.]

We need to find a window and see what's going on.

[ we are on fire - cocorosie

there's abruptly a banging sound as the library doors are slammed shut, followed by a hideous reverberating throaty laugh that fills the room. ]

Ohh, I'm afraid you're not going anywhere. [ the doors begin to glow bright red with heat, magically welded shut, and a gout of flame goes streaking out of nowhere up at one of the stacks, setting them ablaze. the figure responsible's invisibility melts away, revealing a towering red half-dragon with glowing crimson eyes. ]

[ alice is both suddenly glad she was planning on meeting will for some practice and has both her chain and excalibur with her and tremendously nervous because she doesn't know where will is. what the fuck. instead of drawing her chain, because she doesn't want to get close to the half-dragon's breath weapon yet, she draws her gun and fires a single round (atk 26, dmg 7) before ducking down behind the desk for some semblance of cover. she adds in a panicked whisper to kate (and whomever else is on her side of the table): ]

Red dragons breathe fire. [ casual fyi. ] Now is the time for iced coffees!

[ where is astrid when she is most desperately needed. ]

[ Yeah, fuck this. Lydia casts lesser confusion on the enemy immediately, which allows for no saving throw because it only lasts one round. ]

They're also immune to fire, sleep, and paralysis. [ thx knowledge arcana 32. ] Which doesn't explain how this one got in here.

[ well he's not going to have a lot of answers, because when he opens his mouth, a stream of nonsense pours out. terrifyingly, however, alice's ace shot glances entirely off from an invisible shimmering barrier around him. ]

[Kate notices that glimmer and decides to test and see if it's just in front of him or surrounding him completely (wisdom 15). She inches to the left, moving towards the next set of stacks before firing twice (attack 24, 20 total, they probably won't hit but damage 9 and 9 respectively).]

[Phineas is just not prepared for a dragon-man right now. He's going to stay hunkered down under his pile of books - and instead he rips some pages from the notes, and bites into his thumb, and hastily scrawls a strange seal in blood. (With a mighty roll of 8, and all the negatives that come from rushing the ritual, he fails the pact spectacularly.)]

[The ritual is over quick, and as a little figment of black ooze and eyeballs fades back into nothingness, Phineas starts to pick himself off the ground - sporting a strange and bulbous third eye in his forehead and a look of determination etched into his face.]

[ for the record, going to apply her dodge bonus to the half-dragon for the rest of init until another enemy shows up!

following kate's lead, alice moves to get a better shot, but she moves... closer. she's not good with her gun and she knows it (THIS IS WHY SHE WAS GOING TO PRACTICE), she needs to get closer to use her chain, coiled in a loop at her hip. slipping between the desks and chairs, trying to keep them in front of her as she goes, she creeps forward, firing again. (atk 22) ]

[ Lydia looks around like whO ARE YOU PEOPLE WHO BRING YOUR GUNS TO THE LIBRARY WTF. But she'll just ... cast lesser confusion again because that worked pretty well last time. ]

We should use this chance to get past him to where the weapons are! [ and she will take her own advice and use the rest of her turn to try to get past the half-dragon and out of the library. ]

[ kate's shots pinged off from the invisible shield as well, as did alice's next shot, and i guess gar was just SO SHOCKED BY THE BOOKS ON FIRE that it took her a second to get her shit together so she's gonna do both her rounds now a+

with a baller spot check, she reaches out to stop lydia, and redirect her towards the other exit of the library to the south ] He's got the doors sealed! [ the ones right behind him, at least, are still welded shut. ] Go! Warn the others! [ the way she says that makes it kinda clear that she doesn't intend to leave, at least. it's at that point that dimitris' monologue starts to play over all this chaos :') and she goes pale as a fucking sheet, her eyes darting to the back of the library. ] HURRY.

entirely unarmed :') but not about to mention that, not until she gets the others out safely. she'll run up behind alice, put a hand tightly on her shoulder and try to jerk her away from the babbling half dragon. ] You have to get Wynn.
