meanwhile, her shot isn't the only one resounding. anyone who make a listen check DC 10 catches the gunshots right outside in the hall as well, including gar, who casts a worried look after lydia who she just sent RUNNING OUT THERE. there seem to be no good options right now though, so

what's strange is that as the fire strikes her, her entire body feels almost cold where it hits, that sort of burning cold that comes with frostbite, but that's all she can figure out (wis 9). alice, however, catches a glimpse of something unusual when she glances that way to see if she's okay - kate's breath is literally visible, hanging chilled in the air in front of her. ]

kate's shot does indeed break through again, but what's really noticeable is that her hand, where it grips her gun, starts feeling colder as well, until she looks down and sees the entire handle of the gun is frosted over, and so is her hand. her hand feels numb, and the gun slips from it, clattering to the ground as that ice seems to solidify across her palm--
but then it shoots out across the room, forming into a deadly sharp spike, burying itself right in his side for 4 cold dmg to which he is vulnerable, so he actually takes 6 dmg. either way, it surprises the hell out of him - and probably kate too.

Can we take a moment to appreciate that this is the first time that Sawyer has ever drawn her gun? But it works out pretty well for her as she fires off a shot at the obvious threat in the room (The dragon, not Phineas.). Atk 24 / 20 Penetration Dmg.]

and all of their shots are in vain, smacking into that magical shield of his repeatedly, which is pretty terrifying. gar is so busy staring between the burning library, as that fire continues to spread across the stacks, and kate's confused life over there, that she almost doesn't catch that gun (ref 14), but she just barely manages to stick out a foot, reach down and pick it up, aiming one shot up that just barely manages to break through (atk 27, dmg 8) ] Be careful! He has magic! [ she sounds uncertain about sawyer even being here too tbh but the girl's a good shot at least so... w/e she's done arguing, this thing needs to die. ]

Kate still has no idea what's going on with her, but she knows enough to know she has to try and use it to her advantage. She closes her eyes against the fog, focusing as much as she can to try and lower the temperature so that the half-dragon is forced to solidify again (will save 21, concentration 20 total, wisdom 13).]
