[ welcome to the twilight zone where buffy is doing research and gar is just staring distractedly out the window for most of the entire flight, not saying much at all. yep. ]

Sir Gar? Is everything alright?

[Myri and Gar may not be the closest, but she does certainly like the woman. Myri doesn't know how she feels about how quiet Gar has been on this flight.]

[rationalizes]

Hmm? [ she perks her head up just slightly, and slides her phone into her bag surreptitiously (but nothing that a 13 spot or more can't see) ] Oh! Yes, I'm quite fine. How... how are you? [ she flashes a small smile at myri, glancing back to where kat sits ]

[witchwoman]

[Can't put one by this witchomwn. Myri's Spot of 19 means she noticed that slick move. But she doesn't really think much of it, so she just sits down, still concerned for the Knight.]

I'm well. Flying is still exhilarating, but since we'll be in the air so long this time, I think I've managed to be more contained.

[Myri follows Gar's gaze and frowns slightly when she notices that the woman is looking in the direction of her Knight. Curious.]

You seem... distracted.

[rationalizes]

Just... concerned about someone, I suppose. [ she notices myri follow her gaze and offers a sad shake of her head ] No one here. Don't worry.

[witchwoman]

If you're entitled to be concerned, wouldn't you think I am as well?

[She offers a gentle smile.] After all, if you're so busy worrying about all of us, who should be there to worry for you?

[rationalizes]

[ gooood point ]

It's just, er...

[ her voice drops to a quieter murmur ] Sir Chessing, the Dragon's Claw. As you know, Buffy's his squire, and so we were meant to maintain some contact, so I could inform him of how she's been faring but there's been... no word for some time.

[ she flushes a bit ] I know I'm being foolish, though. He's a Dragon's Claw, and if anyone can handle themselves, it's them.

[witchwoman]

[Myri leans in slightly to allow their conversation to be a bit more private. She nods as Gar speaks.]

That doesn't sound foolish at all. In my short time here, I've realized how easily one can come to care about all sorts of people. And when you care, it doesn't matter how capable a person is, you will still worry.

[She might be thinking of someone in particular. Someone who promised to stay safe for her.]

[rationalizes]

[ gar's flush only deepens slightly, though she smiles weakly albeit gratefully at myri. ]

They get the most dangerous missions, you know. And often undertake them entirely alone.

[witchwoman]

And I'm assuming it isn't always a situation where you know just when they'll return?

I wonder why Buffy hasn't mentioned it? I cannot imagine doing all of this without Sir Kat here to help.

[rationalizes]

Buffy's proven very patient with it, but I expect she has a good idea of how fortunate she is to be squired to a Dragon's Claw. And how... unusual it will make her squiring period.

[witchwoman]

[A horrifying thought comes to Myri]

Will he ask her to go with him? On these dangerous missions?

[rationalizes]

He'd never bring her on a mission that he thought was too dangerous for her. It's why they're separated now.

[witchwoman]

Good.

[She says with a nod and a sigh of relief. With that taken care of, she returns her worrying to Gar.]

Have you known him long?

[rationalizes]

I, er, have known of him, certainly, since I joined the Knights... He was already a Dragon's Claw, you see, and they're, well, something of celebrities in the Knighthood. We haven't-- hadn't spoken much until... recently, however. He's a scientist, as well, you see, and Wynn asked me to speak with him regarding my theory on a Shadow gate.

[witchwoman]

[A trace of a smile creeps onto Myri's face. It would almost appear that Gar has a crush.]

That must have been very exciting. Was his insight everything you expected?

[rationalizes]

He certainly knows more about the application of scientific processes to a study of arcane magic than the minds at Oxford. I'm hoping we have a chance to work together more in the future on application of the theory, but I understand that it might be difficult for him to, er, have the time.

[witchwoman]

[Myri doesn't know much about science or about the arcane rules of magic in this world. But she finds Gar's enthusiasm catching at times, so she cannot help but find her smile widening.]

You find such joy in your work.

[rationalizes]

Well, it's just that any work in this field is so unprecedented that there's room for so many more discoveries than within conventional science. So many people are willing to dismiss magic as something mystical and untouchable when even a wizard would be quick to explain that magic operates under just as many rules as any other energy force in existence: and if that's true, then why can't we quantify and explain those rules, and even learn to control them, like all forms of energy?

[witchwoman]

[Myri's brow furrows as she tries to follow Gar's rambling.]

You mean to better understand ley lines? I only wish we could return to my world. There is an entire University of magicians dedicated to such a study.

[rationalizes]

Maybe some day we will. That's what my Shadow Gate theory is all about: finding a way to travel to the Shadow World: or even other planes. We know that it's common enough amongst powerful magic users in other worlds.

[witchwoman]

[If only that darn mist hadn't wiped her memory, Myri might have been able to be more invested int his conversation. Gates that take you to places in a split second? Yeah, there's one in her world, but... she doesn't remember it.]

So... some could return home, if they chose?

[And a beat later, she looks concerned.]

Or perhaps we would be forced?

[Myri likes this world so much better than her own. She has friends here. No... she has family here.]

[rationalizes]

Forced? [ the idea seems to startle her ] Oh! No, no, nothing of the kind. But it would give them the choice to return home -- or for us to learn more of their world.

If anyone tried to force relocation, the Knights would never stand for it.

[witchwoman]

[Myri lets out a relieved sigh]

There are many dangers from other worlds, though, I would imagine. [She's remembering the Blood Mage who had chased her for so long]

Are you certain the risks wouldn't outweigh the rewards?

[rationalizes]

If we created the Gate, we would have to keep knowledge of it secret in order to protect it, at least until we had an idea of what was on the other side. Dangerous things are already coming over, but with the Knights, we have the strength to keep anything from passing through that we don't want to.
