[Myri has a much smaller book, but what better time to practice her reading, right? It's something light and fiction- something that can keep her entertained through the mild frustration of trying to remember her lessons. Actually, Dumage had given her the book. And while Dumage's gifts would normally send Myri running in the other direction, but she's so eager to keep reading, so... it can't hurt, right?

Except that the book Myri is reading is 50 Shades of Grey. Because Dumage is a terrible person.

Suddenly, she looks up and turns to Kat.]

Sir Kat? What is 'carnal longing?'

[shootfirst]

Generally? It's when your ovaries override your brain. [ she glances back at myri, looking a little... well, concerned. ] What are you reading?

[witchwoman]

[She marks her place and holds out the book.]

Dumage called it 'a lesson overdue,' but that title doesn't seem to be anywhere on the cover.

[ pop culture check: oh so successful, as she tilts the cover up ] ... Oh my god. Put that down!

[witchwoman]

[Myri is incredibly confused by this reaction! She's reading, which is... the only important part, right?]

But I haven't finished yet.

Yeah, well you probably won't either way, because if you keep reading you're going to have a heart attack.

I don't understand, Sir Kat. I was only trying to practice my reading.

[ everyone stop and marvel at what is happening on this flight because buffy is taking eleven hours to research. which, yes, okay, you're not supposed to be googling in the air because blah blah radio waves and disruptance. whatever. this is more important.

she's googling some masterfully intelligent things because she's an expert. things like demons and demon-fighting and just googling 'evil' and hoping it pulls something up. yep. amazingly this somehow gets her a research check of 14.

this all brought to you by how fucking weird and distracted she's seemed since her weird alley meeting with david anders. ]

[ she'd find a lot of the actual info out there in the real world on demons: tons of varying reports of what they actually are, etc. but when she starts looking into demon fighting, she'd find out some things that seem more 'concrete', so to speak.

self professed 'demon hunters' are often debunked as frauds, but some people seem to make a real living out of it. the problem is that most of them claim normal people can't even see demons. which... makes it pretty hard for them to support any of their claims.

because demons are supposedly 'invisible' to all but a select few, it's difficult to fight them, and those who can supposedly possess supernatural means to do so, whether naturally, or because of spells or weaponry designed to be wielded against them. there's also lots of talk of using holy weapons against them - blessed steel, holy water, cleric spells, etc.

some sites classify 'vampires' as demons, and some talk about demons more as abstractions than monsters, as if they are simply manifestations of things like hatred, fear, gluttony, etc.

there's plenty of speculation on where they come from as well. christian mythology suggests hell and the devil, but those who believe in shadow pantheons talk about 'nine hells' instead, and an almost infinite number of 'demon dimensions' known collectively as the Abyss.

it's while she's in the middle of looking at this that kat leans over her shoulder. ]

[ her brow furrows and her teeth start worrying at her lower lip as she continues to read, growing more and more intently sucked into the screen the more she finds about these invisible monsters. invisible. funny. it'd seemed pretty visible to her and she wasn't anything special.

except she wouldn't really know. maybe she did have supernatural means. maybe all those run-ins with vamps and demons and things trying to kill her in her dreams were connected. maybe david anders was right and not some lunatic who should be committed just like she'd been pretty sure for the first week or so after she woke up here that she should have been.

she starts clicking through information on the abyss just as kat speaks, and it sends her jumping to such a degree that the ipad in her lap jerks and clatters to the floor of the aisle. she grips her armrest, glancing up with a slight hitch in her breath as she catches kat's eye. oh. right. ]

Everybody's got a hobby. [ she drops to pick the ipad back up, turning it over so it's face-down in her lap. ] Not exactly mission-related, I know.

Unless, of course, we decide to try the exorcism route after all.

And she's funny, too. [ that gets a little bit of a forced smile, but it fades. because she should be not-touchy. ] It wasn't exorcisms exactly. Just ... [ she purses her lips in thought a moment, then takes a leap. ] You do magic, right? So, you should--I mean, what's your take on all this stuff? "Invisible demons" or whatever.

Plenty of monsters out there can go invisible. Doesn't mean I believe in... demons in the like... Biblical sense. But I mean, I guess we know there are hell dimensions, if the clerics aren't full of bullshit, so I suppose whatever lives there counts as demons.

[slay]

But, what about in this dimension? You know, like if they crossed over somehow, or ... I don't know. [ she shakes her head. ] Do you think they're here? Not like ... here-here, or right now-here, but ... Think about it. Spike and a whole bunch of others keep coming through the Veil. There's gotta be some badness slipping from dimension to dimension too.

Anything's possible. But I don't know that I'd classify them as different from monsters from the Shadow World. Just one more messed up thing that needs to get put down if it's evilling about town.

[rationalizes]

[ welcome to the twilight zone where buffy is doing research and gar is just staring distractedly out the window for most of the entire flight, not saying much at all. yep. ]

[witchwoman]

Sir Gar? Is everything alright?

[Myri and Gar may not be the closest, but she does certainly like the woman. Myri doesn't know how she feels about how quiet Gar has been on this flight.]

[rationalizes]

Hmm? [ she perks her head up just slightly, and slides her phone into her bag surreptitiously (but nothing that a 13 spot or more can't see) ] Oh! Yes, I'm quite fine. How... how are you? [ she flashes a small smile at myri, glancing back to where kat sits ]

[witchwoman]

[Can't put one by this witchomwn. Myri's Spot of 19 means she noticed that slick move. But she doesn't really think much of it, so she just sits down, still concerned for the Knight.]

I'm well. Flying is still exhilarating, but since we'll be in the air so long this time, I think I've managed to be more contained.

[Myri follows Gar's gaze and frowns slightly when she notices that the woman is looking in the direction of her Knight. Curious.]

You seem... distracted.

[rationalizes]

Just... concerned about someone, I suppose. [ she notices myri follow her gaze and offers a sad shake of her head ] No one here. Don't worry.

[witchwoman]

If you're entitled to be concerned, wouldn't you think I am as well?

[She offers a gentle smile.] After all, if you're so busy worrying about all of us, who should be there to worry for you?

[rationalizes]

[ gooood point ]

It's just, er...

[ her voice drops to a quieter murmur ] Sir Chessing, the Dragon's Claw. As you know, Buffy's his squire, and so we were meant to maintain some contact, so I could inform him of how she's been faring but there's been... no word for some time.

[ she flushes a bit ] I know I'm being foolish, though. He's a Dragon's Claw, and if anyone can handle themselves, it's them.

[witchwoman]

[Myri leans in slightly to allow their conversation to be a bit more private. She nods as Gar speaks.]

That doesn't sound foolish at all. In my short time here, I've realized how easily one can come to care about all sorts of people. And when you care, it doesn't matter how capable a person is, you will still worry.

[She might be thinking of someone in particular. Someone who promised to stay safe for her.]
