after-party ♔ may

Jeux d'eau - Ravel

WHO || Wynn, any and all Knights not currently on missions (brazil & nevada groups will be returned! if you are uncertain if your character would be at the castle for this, ask!)
WHAT || Squiring Ceremony Afterparty
WHERE || Knights Headquarters, the Ballroom
WHEN || May 1st, 2013, 6:00PM
HOW || Prose OR Actionspam

The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ at one point in the evening, he's addressed by a softspoken voice behind him. turning, he would find a beautiful blonde woman dressed in a very modest yet elegant yellow dress. she appears to be in her mid twenties, and there's a gentleness in her movements that speaks to her personality. ]

Congratulations, Sir Mikaelson. You've been given quite an honor.

So it would appear.

[Not that he'd bothered to dress up for the occasion.]

You have my thanks... [Which is him fishing for a name, as he has no idea who this woman is.]

Risa Vergara. [ she smiles slightly ] And I was referring to more than just your squiring.

It's very rare, you might not know, for a Dragon's Claw to take a squire.

I hadn't realized.

[It made him wonder why this particular "Dragon's Claw" had opted to take him on as a squire in the first place ... but Klaus tended to be particularly paranoid.]

Though now you have me curious.
layonhands: (it just seems so insane anyway)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The last squire he took on was Merlin himself.

[Gurrrl, quit playin'. Or was Merlin actually a real person here. Either way, Klaus was wondering more about the namedrop itself--and how she seemed to assume that he'd be familiar with it at all.]

It sounds as though I've some large shoes to fill.

Ohh I wouldn't worry about that too much. Thomas isn't the type to compare others. Or be judgmental at all.

That's good to know. I would hate failing to live up to anyone's expectations of me, after all.
layonhands: (i know it felt like home)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
We're more concerned here about living up to your own.

Also good to know.

If you don't mind my asking--what is it that you specialize in here?
layonhands: (i know i'd be happier)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-17 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Healing, mostly. Are you familiar with Pelor?

[personal profile] asuma 2013-05-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say that I am.

[What are your crazy deities in this world. Filed under things Klaus would not have bothered looking into.]
layonhands: (to wish it was the best thing)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-18 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Sun Father. Lord of Light. I heal in his service.

No doubt one with your capabilities and dedication must serve as a great asset to this organization.

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-19 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's rather a shortage of clerics of any kind around here, so they keep me in high demand, yes. [ she frowns slightly ] Those who dedicate their lives to the faith are in short supply these days.

[personal profile] asuma 2013-05-21 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that.

[He's speaking more to the shortage of clerics than the lack of followers to her chosen faith. Klaus doesn't have much invested in religion despite wearing a rosary like it's some sort of fashion accessory.]

Is it required that all healers be devout followers of Pelor?

[Because that might be your problem right there, sweetheart. Just saying.]
layonhands: (it just seems so insane anyway)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-21 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, not at all. Healing magic comes from faith ... but any god who isn't evil grants the power to his followers. Pelor is the god of Healing, himself, so it's sort of our specialty.

There are some who simply worship nameless powers of good as well, who are still able to tap into these powers - most likely because the gods see the intent in their hearts and grant it to them.

The entirely faithless, however, have a hard time duplicating the effects of healing magic. [ she looks a little embarrassed by how judgmental that sounded ] Although we still have regular medics and all that. After all, magic comes and goes in this world.

Does it now?

[Because this was news to him. And he is intrigued to know more.]

How's that, exactly?
layonhands: (just let me be your healing star)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-23 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
It works in what most people here refer to as 'tides'. Sometimes magic will be strong - and that's when hundreds, even thousands arrive from other worlds. But then, without any sort of warning, the magic will stop, sometimes for decades. No one will come through, and no magic of any kind functions in this world. It's yet to be explained what causes any of it.

[personal profile] asuma 2013-05-24 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
How interesting.

[No, really. It was probably a good thing to keep on top of--particularly when one had a tendency to collect magic users like pokemon as Klaus was prone to do.]

What happens to those of you who are unable to access your power in the meantime?

[No offense but some of y'all probably aren't useful outside of your arcane talents ok.]
layonhands: (it just seems so insane anyway)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-27 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on the person. Some Shadowkind, particularly before humanity accepted their existence, relied on shape shifting magic to keep from spreading panic wherever they went. They would go into deep hibernation during those periods - and some maintain that practice even now.

But I assume you mean for people like... me. [ she looks down ] I believe the gods use such times to test us. Few of the faithful would leave the knights even when they found themselves at a disadvantage. It's one reason we spend time training in other skills and knowledge, and why Wynn hopes for us all to be well rounded.

There are always some, of course, who would head off to find new paths in such a situation, and I don't believe anyone here would hold it against them.

It must be difficult. Though it sounds as if such instances are few and far between.

[Basically when do you think it will happen again. Not that he relies on magic but ... considering his vampirism stemmed from magic, he wonders what that would mean for him during such a stretch of time when all magic was nullified.]
layonhands: (to miss it seems insane)

[personal profile] layonhands 2013-05-28 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
They are, but they also don't seem prey to any patterns. The last was from 1962 to 75 or so... and before that, somewhere around 1917 for nearly twenty years.

I believe there was one in the 19th century that was almost half a century.

Fascinating. Though it would almost seem we're overdue for another such instance.

[Not that he was looking forward to it. Klaus loved him some witches ok.]

So they say. [ there's a hint of trepidation in her voice at the subject ] I don't really think we're prepared for it. The pace of this world makes it easy for people to expect to always have what's convenient for them.

I don't mean 'we' as in the Knights, though. Wynn's always prepared for that kind of thing. I just mean... our world.
