[ A few weeks after settling in, Lissa gets a pleasant rapping on her door at a decent hour of the morning. It's that time. ]

[Lissa is still adjusting to a normal human schedule instead of the more natural noctural schedule of the Moroi, so a decent hour for everyone else still has her slightly bleary eyed and rumpled when she pads to the door and opens it, curiousity plain on her face.

She stifles a yawn behind her hand and her cheeks flush slightly when she sees the woman at the door.]

Oh hi. Excuse me, sorry.

[silvermaid]

[ the woman looks a little sheepish and a little amused at obviously waking her ] Rise and shine~!

I hope I'm not too dreadfully early.

[Whoops, way to go, Lissa, stellar first impression you're making here. She rushes to shake her head, smoothing her hair back and gathering it into a ponytail, her hand staying twisted around it to keep the long sheet at bay.]

No, it's fine. I... overslept.

[silvermaid]

[ she gets a conspiratorial little smile at that ] It isn't as if you had a mission to report to today. Nothing wrong with getting in the rest while you have the time!

I'm still getting used to a normal schedule. Do you want... to come in or should I get dressed?

[silvermaid]

Wherever you'll be most comfortable.

Well I should eat... do you mind waiting a second? [She doesn't actually wait for an answer, slipping back inside without closing the door. Heading to her closet and yanking out a pair of jeans and a shirt, she tugs it all on quickly and slams a brush through her long hair until it is untangled. Slipping a pair of ballet flats she heads back to the door.]

Okay, I feel human.

[silvermaid]

To the kitchen, I imagine?

Yes, please. ['cause she sure isn't going to chomp down on an actual person. She has no misgivings about blood that isn't from a vein, okay, from the fridge is fine, too. And she wants some cereal.]

I'm Lissa, by the way. Nice to meet you.

[silvermaid]

Anastacia O'Keefe. The pleasure's all mine, dear. [ she leads the way down the expansive hall, keeping friendly pace beside her ] Welcome to the castle, by the way. I'm still getting the hang of it myself.

Oh? Have you not been here long?

[silvermaid]

I worked out of the Ireland branch until a few months ago. I'd only been here twice before - to meet Wynn and be Knighted.

[lastdragomir]

I didn't realize there were... other branches. Then again, I didn't really do much research before joining.

[silvermaid]

Most of them are very small: there were only about 18 of us there. But it's good to have a more permanent presence in locations around the world, for emergencies, and diplomatic relations.

[lastdragomir]

That makes sense. I am still getting used to such a thing actually existing, knights and all. I guess because I think Knights and imagine... Cinderella, or Sleeping Beauty. Just stories.

[silvermaid]

I don't think there's much of anything that's just a story.

[lastdragomir]

Like dragons. [She makes a wry smile.] Definitely something to get used to.

[silvermaid]

But it does make the world feel as if anything is possible.

[lastdragomir]

Which can be both a good thing and a bad one.

[silvermaid]

Precisely why we're here.

[lastdragomir]

Do we protect people from "monsters"? [The air quotes there are pretty verbal.] Or the other way around? Or both?

[silvermaid]

Both, I guess you could say. Sometimes it's the 'monsters' who need protecting.

[lastdragomir]

[She nods. That is good. After her experiences with Strigoi and Moroi and Dhampirs... Monsters are relative. She doesn't want to be part of something that thinks someone or something can't be saved.]

[silvermaid]

I suppose you could say we work to make the transition between worlds as smooth as possible. For both sides.
