The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Charming makes his way towards Lissa when he spots her, recalling their lovely talk outside with the wounded bird. She's a sweet girl and he's noticed that she's no stranger to the bar tonight.]

Hey there... Everything alright? [Most people don't drink like that unless their trying to get away from something. Usually themselves.]

Hi David. [She smiles sweetly, brushing her ponytail over her shoulder.] I'm fine just... sometimes memories get to me.

Want to talk about it? [He looks out at the rest of the party, then back at Lissa.] Or get some fresh air?

Fresh air sounds good. [Yes, David, help her make good life choices. She put the glass down and slides off her seat.]

M'lady... [He overly exaggerates the offer of his arm and lets the corners of his mouth drift up in a smile that's just for her.]

Why thank you, Sir Knight. [She loops her arm around his, brightening for the first time that evening at their playful back and forth.]

[And with her securely on his arm, Charming will whisk her away from the ballroom and out of the castle where they can find some fresh night air.]

So what's going on? [Concern is painted all over his expression. He doesn't want to bring her down but he is worried about what's bothering her.]

My best friend doesn't remember me? [Is that enough? She doesn't think that's enough. At least not for Charming.]. We have a bond, she can feel my emotions and thoughts. [Her nose wrinkles briefly.] Antidepressants dulled the bond back home, I thought champagne might have the same effect.

[And both effects stop her from healing, which is probably helpful.]

[While he doesn't know what it's like to have a bond like that, there's definitely part of this that David gets. Who knows if reverse empathizing will even work to make her feel any better, but something about Lissa makes David comfortable.]

I have a daughter. [There was really no good way to jump into it.] At least... that's what she tells me. Emma? She's a Knight- well, a squire. But she says I'm her father. [He sighs and looks up at the ceiling because he hasn't actually talked about this much at all.] But she looks... She's got to be maybe a handful of years younger than me? I don't know how it's possible, but she seems so sure.

[He smiles, looking back over at her.] It's hard- being on the other end of it. But that doesn't mean you should have to hide what you remember, what you know.

[Her eyes go a little wide at Charming's story because it sounds impossible and it must be so difficult struggling with the idea of forgetting your own child. She reaches out, putting her hand on his arm.] If anyone needs a drink, I would think it would be you.

I just don't know how I am supposed to tell her anything. It was hard enough telling Dimitri and we weren't very close. But I've known Rose since we were children and... [She exhales sharply, rubbing her forehead with the heel of her hand.] And nothing. Our bond just makes her upset and I can't stop it, I don't know how.

[He laughs off her comment about how he must need a drink. It's weird, yeah, but so far he hasn't worried too much about it. He likes Emma, likes talking to her even when he does feel like he's missing something.]

I'm guessing you've tried talking to her?

[Lissa snorts.] No, not exactly. Did you know that when two people actively avoid each other they can pretty much go months without seeing the other person?

[BECAUSE LISSA KNOWS THIS.]

[The weird thing about being a dad and not knowing it is that he still somehow has a great dad face? It's like he's disappointed in you and knows you can do better.]

The only way it's ever going to get any better is if you talk to her, Lissa.

[ Lissa's mouth twists. ] She doesn't want to talk to me. [ Which may or may not be true. You know, they would actually have to talk to find that out, she just can't help being defensive about it. ]

[David's incredible wisdom score of 4 sure doesn't help clue him in that she may mean more to that beneath the surface.]

I'm sorry. [It's the most sincere apology that a person can offer. It's all he's got.]

Thanks. [She smiles weakly, shoulders relaxing just slightly, because well, it is nice to get it off her chest. A thousand points to Prince Charming.] I know I'm not supposed to dwell on the past, I just... wish everything was normal. I could handle all this if Rose remembered me.

I think it's hard to hold out for normal when we most of us aren't even from this world.

[But it becomes home, and he truly does believe that. Ever since joining, David's felt like this was something he was meant to do.] It's probably harder being connected like that. Have you tried talking to Wynn about if there's a some sort of magical way to... undo it? [A beat as he considers it further.] Is that even something you want?

I don't know.

[It's not that she hasn't thought about it -- she definitely has. But the bond is so one-sided, she's not sure if it's even her choice to make. And if it's Rose's choice, would she be able to get away from her Guardian mindset to make the choice as just Rose?

And frankly, Lissa is a little scared of the prospect of being without something she's come to rely on. But if she and Rose don't even talk then what is the point?]

Hey... [He steps up beside her and places a comforting hand between her shoulder blades, rubbing a small circle there.]

It's okay. You don't need to know what you want, but you have options. And if you can't talk to her, you can talk to me. Or someone else, if that makes you more comfortable. But you aren't alone in this.

[Lissa doesn't mean to do it, but sometimes she feels this phantom pain like the veil is allowing her to miss the family she doesn't remember and sometimes a teenage girl just needs a father figure. So without much warning, Lissa turns and sort of stumbles into Charming, wrapping her arms around him in a pathetic sort of hug.

She's out of practice.] Thank you.

[David is a bit surprised by the hug but after a moment of shock, he pulls his arms around her and holds onto her. His hug is warm and strong, something for her to lean into. He doesn't break away, just holds onto her because she needs it.

And maybe he does too.]

[ After a moment, a long one, Lissa gets herself together and pulls back, reaching up to smooth her hair back into her ponytail. ] Sorry, that was... thanks.

[He steps back as she does and lets his arms fall to his sides.]

You're welcome. [And his smile should banish any need for an apology, because that's just silly.] Do you want to go back?

[ she nods, still slightly embarrassed by her reaction. but she really did need a hug. and david is such a sweetheart. ] Yeah, we probably should.

Come on... [And he leads her back in and is a total gentleman about it.]
