The big day has finally arrived.  As media coverage rises to a frenzied fever pitch, Jaka's final preparations are completed, and the team assembles to head down for the trial of Rafael Giovanni.   

Large crowds are gathered outside, some of whom tote signs condemning Rafael as a murderer, others pledging their support and love for the singer.  Police officers keep order, and hold the crowds back as the stars are led up the steps and inside the courthouse.  

They'll have some time to convene with Burt and Jaka in a private room before the trial itself begins.  Unfortunately, Jaka still hasn't shared the change in plans that he and Des discussed in private...

How much of that did you hear?

[ she spots vi when she exits the courtroom, and approaches with a small degree of awkwardness, though she doesn't bother with much smalltalk and quickly shifts to a scowl that covers up the red rimming around her eyes, the only sign of the full-out distress this is all causing her. ]

It's like they all completely lost it and forgot who we're even trying to help in all of this. [ like wow rafael did not need help walking off the insanity cliffs. ]

[ her listen crit fail and the way she's rubbing her eyes would lend to the idea that she was sleeping until buffy stormed out. which she was. because fuck this noise. ]

...yeah, I missed all that.

Des is letting them call Jade the Black Scourge. [ because vi will understand her outrage. all of buffy's discomfort with how close vi had gotten to jade in an instant while buffy had befriended her over time is gone in an instant, because this is shared pain. shared betrayal. and neither of them can even imagine the pain that rent rafael. ]

[ her eyes widen and then squeeze shut. she can understand the idea behind it -- jade is a scapegoat, putting the blame on her takes away from the blame on raf and what wouldn't jade do for raf, herself? -- but it makes her want to vomit a little and she slumps against the bench. ]

Um, how...? Rafael would never let anyone say that about her.

They've already convinced the entire room he lost it months ago. You really think anyone's listening to what Rafael has to say? They covered everything.

Did it work?

[ because... as much as she hates it, and it's clear in the way her hand lifts anxiously to her throat and the necklace not there, if it worked, at least they would have made that cruelty worth it. ]

[slay]

You mean is Rafael going to wind up in an asylum? [ her tone gets cold. jade is dead and gone, harming her memory is one thing. taking rafael from buffy is another entirely and she's still not fucking on board for it. ] Yeah. Probably. So, I guess we're winning.

[behindcloseddoors]

[ and then there's this asshole. striding down the hall is a dark elf in a very expensive looking suit, along with a stunning drow female dressed in a floor length black and purple dress with a plunging neckline, web-like black patterns up the side. he speaks up as he sees buffy, and they slow to a halt. ]

Well, well. Glad to see you're all out in force to support our boy.

[graveflowers]

Who the fuck are you? [ she looks at buffy. ] Who the fuck is he?

[slay]

Jaka's brother. Partner. Brother ... slash partner. The sketchier of the sketchy drow duo. [ she may be talking to vi as she says it, but her eyes never leave nym, and there's no warm welcome in her eyes. probably because she's holding him responsible for jaka's bad life choices. ] What are you doing here?

[graveflowers]

[ as an aside: ] I really hope you mean partner in a business sense...

[behindcloseddoors]

[ nym gives a broad smile, shaking his head as he says smoothly: ] I've told you before, we don't work together. I'm just here to support my brother's work.

[slay]

I think we can both agree sham's the better word.

I like mockery, myself. [ she's eyeing up tyra, because she has eyes, thank you, and her eyes are drawn to the pattern of the dress. spiders. ew. ]

Now, now. My brother always gets results. I certainly hope you aren't complaining about Rafael likely avoiding any jail time.

Well, that makes one of us who doesn't consider a trip to the loony bin to be doing time.

[ again, vi bites her tongue on how at least raf would be safe. she'll just let buffy handle this. ]

My brother seems to be of the mind that Rafael could benefit from some counseling after his experience. [ a beat ] And given what I just heard in that courtroom, I might have to agree.

[slay]

You know, that is so weird. 'Cause I don't remember asking about your opinion at all. [ her brow mockingly furrows and she shakes her head. ] Crazy, right?

[behindcloseddoors]

You didn't, you're right. But that doesn't stop half the world from having one on this case.

[graveflowers]

And some people have learned when to keep it to themselves. [ like around buffy, who can break people in half with her thumbnail. ] Is there something specific that you wanted? Or are you and your friend just here to bother us?

[slay]

I think we all know where the smart money is on that one.

As I said, we're here to offer our support. [ his attention seems caught by some noise from within the courtroom, and he raises an eyebrow at the drow woman, who detaches herself from the little group to move further down towards the doors. a spot check of 18+ will notice that she holds something in her hand... a small round object that looks almost like a porcelain representation of a brain. ] Shouldn't you be inside, doing the same?

[ with an impressive spot of 22, vi sees it because she's creeping all over tyra, but can't summon enough fucks to care/wonder about it. ] Our moral support transcends doors. It's like a super power.

[ spot 27. buffy will happily be tactless and call it out. ]

Offer your support with presents? Gee. [ she moves to get between the drow woman and the door. ] You shouldn't have. [ she holds out an expectant hand. buffy the bouncer. ]
