The big day has finally arrived. As media coverage rises to a frenzied fever pitch, Jaka's final preparations are completed, and the team assembles to head down for the trial of Rafael Giovanni.

Large crowds are gathered outside, some of whom tote signs condemning Rafael as a murderer, others pledging their support and love for the singer. Police officers keep order, and hold the crowds back as the stars are led up the steps and inside the courthouse.

They'll have some time to convene with Burt and Jaka in a private room before the trial itself begins. Unfortunately, Jaka still hasn't shared the change in plans that he and Des discussed in private...

Now, now. My brother always gets results. I certainly hope you aren't complaining about Rafael likely avoiding any jail time.

Well, that makes one of us who doesn't consider a trip to the loony bin to be doing time.

[ again, vi bites her tongue on how at least raf would be safe. she'll just let buffy handle this. ]

My brother seems to be of the mind that Rafael could benefit from some counseling after his experience. [ a beat ] And given what I just heard in that courtroom, I might have to agree.

You know, that is so weird. 'Cause I don't remember asking about your opinion at all. [ her brow mockingly furrows and she shakes her head. ] Crazy, right?

You didn't, you're right. But that doesn't stop half the world from having one on this case.

And some people have learned when to keep it to themselves. [ like around buffy, who can break people in half with her thumbnail. ] Is there something specific that you wanted? Or are you and your friend just here to bother us?

I think we all know where the smart money is on that one.

As I said, we're here to offer our support. [ his attention seems caught by some noise from within the courtroom, and he raises an eyebrow at the drow woman, who detaches herself from the little group to move further down towards the doors. a spot check of 18+ will notice that she holds something in her hand... a small round object that looks almost like a porcelain representation of a brain. ] Shouldn't you be inside, doing the same?

[ with an impressive spot of 22, vi sees it because she's creeping all over tyra, but can't summon enough fucks to care/wonder about it. ] Our moral support transcends doors. It's like a super power.

[ spot 27. buffy will happily be tactless and call it out. ]

Offer your support with presents? Gee. [ she moves to get between the drow woman and the door. ] You shouldn't have. [ she holds out an expectant hand. buffy the bouncer. ]

[ she looks down her nose at buffy like a bird might look at a worm. ]

Are you interested in winning this trial, or would you prefer to make a scene, and despoil everything that's been done thus far?

[ watching carefully, vi has to wonder about the answer to that question herself. they are pretty spectacular at making a scene... ] Somehow I'm guessing you're not an Ood. [ if you think they can live in england and not pick up at least one thing from doctor who, you are so wrong. ]

[ buffy will take a beat out of this drama to glance over at vi like what the hell did you just say even. but she shakes it off with a furrowed brow and then glowers at this drow chick. ] What I'm interested in is knowing who it is we're working with. I don't trust you. Any of you. [ #drowracism. ] So, if you want into that courtroom, you're gonna tell me exactly what that is and what you're trying to do.

[ her eyebrow climbs very high and she looks suddenly prepared to, idk, cast a spell to turn buffy inside out or something, but nym smoothly interjects, stepping in between them. ]

We don't exactly have time for this. She doesn't need to go inside, for one thing. She just needs to be able to hear, so we can be sure our psychiatrist says what we need her to say.

The whole case rests on this at this point. Or are you going to let her blow the entire thing after all this dirty laundry's come out in the public eye?

[ cough cough choking on her chocolate chips. ] You're controlling her?

[ what's that feeling? oh. right. hello, nausea, my old friend.

this is wrong. it's beyond wrong, and buffy knows it, but it's rafael. she can't lose him, but she can't bring herself to support this. so she deflates, the fight draining out of her and finding its space filled with disgust and conflict, but she doesn't move. she doesn't have it in her to step out of the way, but it's all too clear she won't move to stop her again. more than just processing, she's questioning if any of them can really say that what they're doing is right anymore. just what kind of ends can justify these means?

it's all over her face when she finally resigns herself and accepts it. her eyes shut briefly, and she lowers her face. ]

[ nym nods to the woman, who squeezes the little crystal as she listens at the door, closing her eyes. he looks back at vi, and says: ] Nothing beyond ... coaching her lines and diagnosis, believe me. [ he smiles ] A gift Viconia received from a friend who's very well versed in these things. No harm will come to her.

[ vi is actually not too put off by all this, her reaction came entirely from surprise and a kind of strange fascination. but vi's morals have never been the best to begin with and she is well aware of that. the psychiatrist isn't her family, she doesn't care right now. ]

Does this have anything to do with why Jaka wanted a female psychiatrist?

The crystal is attuned to females, so that Viconia can operate it. But it all worked out fine, in the end.

Where does one find something like that? You know, souvenir. It's pretty.

We don't need one. [ EXCUSE ME, VI. ]

[ nym just smirrrrrrrrrrrrrrks. ] We have friends in very ... interesting places.

And speaking of, your friend Giovanni was sent down the hall there to a room on the left. [ he nods that way ] In case you wanted to find him.

[ you mean she has to stand up? ugh, gross. ] Thanks. [ she pretty much assumes buffy is going to go hunt down the italian, but she glances over at the blonde woman anyway. ] You wanna do this solo or do you want company?

[ buffy looks a little put on the spot by vi's question - but not in a bad way. in fact, she appreciates the understanding involved in asking it. her voice is small, and her answer is meek. ] Alone is better. [ she offers a thin, weary sort of smile. it's not going to be pretty in there. ] Thank you. [ she nods, briefly glances with fire in her eyes at nym and viconia, and then sets off down the hall to the indicated door. ]
