The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ fiona's standing nearby watching the fireworks with equal amaze, absently calling over to astrid: ] I know this is magic, and obviously awesome all by itself, but fireworks? Too cool.

I know right? They're all ... mysterious. [which may seem like a random descriptor BUT REALLY IT'S NOT ...]

[ naw, she gets it. ] I think the only thing that would make it better is if there was still the risk of things catching on fire.

[pathology]

That ... would be ... [let her envision it in graphic detail] awesome. I like the way you think.

I'm Fiona. [ she finally tears her gaze away from the fireworks and looks Astrid's way, raising her glass in greeting ]

[pathology]

Astrid! [she raises her glass back.] So like ... what's your story?

[missindependent]

[ she considers that for a moment, looking a bit lost, but the confusion fades quickly and she's smiling again ] I couldn't tell you the half of it. [ she chuckles like it's a joke and not... the truth ] I'm sort of a drifter, I guess, but my friend, Faith O'Keefe, she's the one that told me about this place. It seems as good a way as any to find some adventure.

[pathology]

Oh, I know Faith! She's, uh, pretty cool. [usually someone like faith would be too goody-goody for astrid to think much of but her consistent niceness has ... made an impression. :'| ]

[missindependent]

The coolest really. So, are you from... here? [ the most eloquent, really ]

[pathology]

Like, England here? No. [she actually has a verrrrrry faint german accent.] But I'm not from beyond the Veil, either.

[missindependent]

[ ah now she recognizes the accent! (wis 15) don't worry, she won't pull out any cliche german phrases or anything ] Yeah, me either.

[ she gulps a bit of drink down ] Do you use magic, read minds... kung fu moves? Something equally awesome?

[pathology]

[she wrinkles her nose at fiona's suggestions of her capabilities.] I'm a genius with an eidetic memory and a vast amount of medical knowledge.

[missindependent]

[ she seems genuinely impressed, albeit a little confused, her expression distant ] A perfect memory, huh? [ but once again the moment passes and she leans in, grinning ] I'm a genie.

[pathology]

[spoilers: she may be slightly exaggerating. but only slightly.] Basically. [... WAIT WHAT] What, really? As in like, wish-granting genies?

[missindependent]

I think it's the ability to instantly conjure wine that really takes the cake, but yeah, wishes and stuff, too. [ she shrugs ] The wishing part just tends to get a lot messier.

[pathology]

Okay, but I have to ask — can you wish for a million wishes? Is that a thing?

[missindependent]

I don't... think so? [ wow she sure is curious about that now ] I don't have much guidance on the whole powers and limitations thing.

[pathology]

Really? You'd think there'd be some kind of guidebook. Or a Reddit forum.

That would be nice. I've never even met another genie ... At least I don't think I have.

Maybe I should make some kind of blog or something, in case there's someone else out there looking for answers, too. [ yeah, she won't remember to do that in, like, five minutes ]

[pathology]

Definitely. Blogging is where it's at. I mean, I guess it is. That's what everyone says. I don't have the patience.

[missindependent]

Oh, right, patience. [ there's definitely some disdain behind that word ] Well, I figured it out on my own, so they can too!

Soooo... have you been on any missions yet?

[pathology]

Yeah, one. [she does the same ~i'm so cool~ knuckle-cracking display that she did for andrew.] I totally had it under control.

[missindependent]

What sort of genius-y type work did you have to do? [ this is sincere curiosity here, ok ]

[pathology]

I analyzed blood spatters. [she nods sagely. and doesn't even need a bluff check bc that's an actual thing she did. she just ... never reported her findings. or cared at the time.]
