The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme. With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity. Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums. People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ is your character the mysterious loner type who likes to walk out the back doors of the balcony onto the large back 'porch' of the castle, to look over the balustrades there and stare gloomily out at the gardens and woods while dramatically smoking a cigarette?

any character who goes outside must make a listen check. for reasons. ]

[ what's a chinese new year without parading a giant dragon through the crowd??

anyone who wants to can assist in being a part of the dragon train storming through the party partway through the night. and even if you don't want to be, faith might grab you and make you. ]

[ given that it's freezing fucking cold outside, the dragon's fire is here to perform completely safe fireworks... indoors! they spout off fountains of light and sound near the ceilings, that shower down over the crowd harmlessly. :) ]

[ faith's not only wearing a red chinese dress, but she's gone as far as to dye her hair as well, and she's all smiles as she flits around the party, happy to celebrate the arrival of her friend, fiona. and she's looking pretty damn hot too, with her 17 style check.

you can catch her almost anywhere, but she's bound to be regaling groups of people with the story of how her and fiona slayed a red dragon repeatedly through the night, because well... thematic. ]

[ this dark-skinned elf is all about parties, and it's easy to tell from her behavior that this is her scene, even if the ballroom is a bit stodgy compared to her usual hangouts. she dressed in red (with a 21 disguise check), per faith's request, and she's already a drink or two into this thing, a spark of mischief ever-present in her bright purple eyes. anyone paying close enough attention would also notice a labyrinthine silver design covering both of her wrists, which at first glance appear to be nothing more than a pair of beautifully crafted bracelets, but upon closer inspection it's clear they're actually embedded in her skin.

she's merrily laughing at any and all jokes or awkward moments, idly swaying back and forth to the music, and looking for something fun to do. come bug her ;) ]

[Pan... doesn't have much in the way of red clothing, and it doesn't occur to him to just go into one of the dressing rooms and pick out something nice from there. So, he scavenges an outfit from what he brought with him. So, he walks in wearing a t-shirt that might not have actually been his, but rather, in all likelihood had belonged to one of the other boys he'd lived with back in New York. It's somewhat faded and worn, and a size too big for him, and he has no idea who the person on the front of it is. His jeans are a bit rumpled, with holes in the knees, which he's never quite sure if that's fashionable or just disheveled and sloppy. He tries to salvage this outfit with a green zip-up hoodie, which just makes him look quite festive... for Christmas. Oh, and his boots are scuffed up. He doesn't even bother doing his hair-- what's there to do, really?

This is what happens when you roll a 5 on Disguise.

So, he may look terribly out of place. He's just going to take some candied fruits now, enjoy the fireworks, and look out for people closer to his own age. There are too many adults here.]

[ over by the food stands lila, who looks like she wasn't even trying in her blue dress and oversize men's sweater she probably (definitely) stole. look at the profound number of fucks she gives about the chinese new year. she barely gives a fuck about new years in general, so there isn't much of a change. she is here for the food.

it's ironic that red is her usual choice and the one time they're asked to wear red she doesn't. ]

[ astrid didn't feel like wearing red because she thought she could cheat by being a ginger. but she got a disguise nat 20 so she's obvs being too gorge for people to give a shit. she's currently sipping champagne and watching the fireworks like an easily distracted cat. such sparkle. wow amaze. ]

[ emma is starting the new year off right with a 17 disguise check. she got the memo to wear red, and has donned an appropriate strapless red party dress. 90% of the reason she is here is that she heard the name peter pan at the squiring ceremony and she has a visceral compulsion to size him up. so she is 100% actively searching the room right now, but doing a decent job of making it look like she's (gasp) actually mingling instead of just hovering by the bar awkwardly, as she usually does at these things. ]

Hey Faith.

[Like some others, Brantley also arrives in red. He wears a red shirt with rolled sleeves, a red tie, a red vest and a red dress pants. By each of themself, the items he wears are not bad, but as a set, they are just so... red(disguise 10). He normally likes party, but since the party is magical party, he is in a less celebratory mood. He does stay to mingle but he tends to stay away from all the sparkle.]
