The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[ this dark-skinned elf is all about parties, and it's easy to tell from her behavior that this is her scene, even if the ballroom is a bit stodgy compared to her usual hangouts. she dressed in red (with a 21 disguise check), per faith's request, and she's already a drink or two into this thing, a spark of mischief ever-present in her bright purple eyes. anyone paying close enough attention would also notice a labyrinthine silver design covering both of her wrists, which at first glance appear to be nothing more than a pair of beautifully crafted bracelets, but upon closer inspection it's clear they're actually embedded in her skin.

she's merrily laughing at any and all jokes or awkward moments, idly swaying back and forth to the music, and looking for something fun to do. come bug her ;) ]

[Thoster swoops in at some point in the evening because Fiona looks very fun and he's never met her before, so clearly he should fix this.]

Aren't you just the life of the party. [He's extremely pleased by this.] Care for another drink?

Always! [ she grins, reaching out toward his glass to carefully place just her index finger against it. looking down, he would see it quickly fill back up with a dark red liquid that's probably wine, and she winks. ]

[ she lets out a boisterous, good-humored laugh, obviously quite delighted with his reaction ] Oh, here and there, and probably just about everywhere.

I'm Fiona. [ she thrusts her free hand out toward him, and the silver bands wrapped tightly around her wrist catch a glint from the lantern light above ]

Thoster. [He takes her hand and turns it so that he can press a kiss to the back of it.]

Been a bit of everywhere myself. I'm sure you've got a few tales worth telling, hm?

[ she gives him a weird look at the gesture, but she doesn't blush or anything so modest ]

I'm sure I've got some of those locked up here. [ she gives her temple a light tap ] That is, if you can think of a good way to spark my memory? [ maybe she's being coy...? it's hard to tell ]

[silvermaid]

[ anastacia looks customarily gorgeous, with like a bajillion disguise check idek. she approaches fiona with a broad smile, forgetting that the girl might... not remember her. WE'LL SEE. ] Fiona, darling! I can't tell you how happy I was to hear you were going to be a Knight. Faith has been bouncing off the walls.

[ there isn't an ounce of recognition from fiona at the woman's face or voice, but she's used to that, so she'll just... play along ] She promised excitement and adventure - and magic! - and I just couldn't turn it down.

We certainly have plenty of that to spare around here. Your mother should be very proud of you.

[ making others proud of her has never been a concern of fiona's, not even when it comes to her mother. and anyway, she isn't sure what would actually make her mother proud ] I think she's more relieved than anything, now that I have someplace to call home. For now, at least.

Well, we're certainly glad to have you here. Faith's lived her whole life surrounded by familiar faces. I know she finds the change exciting but it's still a big change for her.

Familiar faces are something of a rarity for me, so I guess it's nice to have Faith around, too. Someone I actually remember knowing.

[ aurelius has come a long way since his first days of fashion disaster here. look at well that boy got his shit together. dayum son.

unfortunately, it doesn't mean he's any smoother, really. he'll just be openly staring at fiona's bracelets, mouth sort of agape over here, glass half raised to his lips. ]

[ let it be known that fiona regards open-mouth gaping as the highest form of compliment. so she'll just grin widely as she flits over to him, holding an arm up to offer him a better view of her wrist before extending her hand out towards him ] Hi! I'm Fiona.

[ OH GOD SHE'S RIGHT THERE. he blinks a couple time, unnerved by her boldness, but reaches out to shake her hand, before gently turning her wrist to examine them more closely ] Aurelius... These are remarkable. I've never seen runes like those before.

I'm not sure they're of this world, even. I can't tell you exactly when they began to form, but they seem to be growing bolder, and more constraining, each day. Some kind of binding runes, I would assume.

Do you... know much about runes, then? [ because that would be awesome ]

Just sort of... objectively, yes. I mean, from reading about them. What kind of constraints are you speaking of?

Oh, I'm a genie. [ she offers sort of flippantly ] Cool, huh? Well... except for the whole tether thing. [ as she looks down at her wrist again ]

[As far as new squires go, this one seems pretty cool. Andie bounces up to her, coming not quite out of nowhere as she's pausing occasionally to sip her drink or chat at someone, but she's trying to make her way over to greet the new person.]

Oh, wow, well that's... not so bad, then. But I don't think nail polish remover would work in this situation.
