The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[ lissa is standing idly by the drinks with a glass of champagne, the bubbles tickling her nose. she looks kind of tired, but approachable all the the same time. ~spirit, yo. it's got it's perks. she's wearing pink because red and her pale skin doesn't look right. and she's just... not a fan of red. ]

[Sliding up beside her, Thoster has a drink of his own in hand and a smile on his face. He can tell something is wrong though (sense motive 23) and doesn't waste any time trying to cheer her up and/or find out what's wrong.]

Now where's your smile gone, gorgeous? [Where he can lay on the charm incredibly thick sometimes, he's also got a way of being able to say things like that and have them be completely harmless. He's got a younger sister back home, after all. He knows how to talk to young ladies.]

[ there is her smile. it lifts her lips when thoster approaches. ] Waiting for you, it seems.

Ah, much better. [He beams back at her in kind.] I was afraid some young idiot had said something he shouldn't and I'd have to teach him a hard life lesson.

Nothing to fear. [ it's hard not to smile with him around, honestly. ] How was your mission with David? Kept yourselves out of trouble, I hope.

Afraid to say we dove into the thick of it. But that man's built like an ox and twice as strong. Saved my skin out there.

[Faye doesn't care if Lissa looks tired. She... doesn't really pat attention to those things. But Lissa hasn't given her a reason not to enjoy talking to her yet, so at some point during the party, she makes her way over to the vamp.]

You need a stronger drink. [Which is code for 'faye wants a stronger drink and she is ordering you one too.']

[ her mouth opens to protest, but closes soon after. is it a battle worth fighting? no. maybe she deserves a break, anyway. ] Yeah, alright.

[Faye just smiles victoriously and spins back towards the bar.]

Great. [Excuse her while she orders for the both of them. It's just vodka cranberry (although she makes sure they are mixed pretty heavy). Look, it's even red to go with the theme of the night! She hands one to Lissa.] Anything worth toasting?

The New Year? When in Rome, after all. [ she takes a sip, and it is a hell of a lot stronger then her champagne. yay, bad decisions forthcoming! ]

[She clinks her glass to Lissa's.]

Works for me. [Taking a deep drink, she barely flinches at the heavy dose of alcohol.] So what's new?

[David hasn't seen Lissa since he got back from Andres Island, for various reasons up to and including helping a number of potential Shadowkind slaves get somewhere safe and sound and all that jazz. When he sees her, however, he winds his way through the crowd with a smile.]

[ david is smiling. he's smiling and lissa hasn't even asked him too. it's a christmas miracle. ]

Hi. Thanks! Red isn't really my thing, but I thought this was a fair compromise.

Your tie looks festive, at least. [ she lets the compliment lay for a moment before seguing into something different. ] So Thoster tells me you're the hero of the hour. [ there's a touch of pride in her tone, but it mingles with BUT WHY WERE YOU IN DANGER! ]

[He makes a bit of a face at that, before shrugging.]

I was just doing my job.

[ max is... looking like he always does, because he never takes that leather jacket off, ever. but he's here, at a party, what else are you gonna ask from him. he wanders up behind lissa with no preamble except for: ]

[Taradiddle looks a little like she fell out of a tree. Probably because she did. There are twigs in her hair. (disguise 9). She looks mostly ok besides that at least. She's got a stripey red shirt on under her grey cloak. She's drinking champagne too and gives Lissa a sunny smile.]

Champagne is neat! I don't think they had it where I came from.

[ adorbs. lissa reaches over and plucks a twig out her hair, holding it out to look at curiously. ] It's not bad, especially compared to the other things people think to cook up.
