The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme. With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity. Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums. People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

[ he lets out a laugh on a breath ] I don't usually date.

But we're-- [ some of her confusion clears into a smile and she swings her other arm around his neck, somehow managing to keep the glass still in her hand from spilling all over him. (dex 18) ] You want to date me?

[ he moves to steady her with an arm around her back as well with an impressive reflex save. ] You sound surprised about that.

I am. I think. [ she shakes her head a little, fuzzy. ] I think I need some water.

[ he smirks a little bit, glancing around for a chair. ] Sit.

Yes sir. [ she does that. with all the grace of a drunken rhinoceros. actually. she does not. (dex crit fail) she misses the chair completely and falls on her ass, amid giggles that only come when you're very, very drunk and have just realized it with startling clarity. ]

[ oh wow what has he... done here. with a nat 20 reflex check, at least, he catches her before her butt hits the ground, scooping her against him instead. ] Whoa! Hey... settle down there.

[ still giggling. ] Hi there.

Maybe, uh, no more Shadow ales for you, huh?

[ she tries to affect a pouty face, but she sort of fails at it. ] You're really sweet, Max.

Sweet. That's not one I get a lot.

Well. Surprise!

I'll take it.

Max. [ she pats his chest in case he doesn't know she's talking to him. ] I'm gonna kiss you, okay?

[ deer in the headlights / slightly turned on maybe face ] ... That a fact?

Yes, it is. [ she pushes up on her tiptoes even though she really doesn't need to, and kisses him gently, tentatively. ]

[ he just... lets her kiss him for a second, though he's not withdrawing, and his eyes fall closed in clear enjoyment of the moment. but then his brow furrows, and his lips part as if to protest, but you know, it's hard to do that when your lips are... occupied. ]

[ she pulls back the tiniest bit, lips still brushing against his when she talks, sounding adorably put out. ] Max. You're supposed to kiss back.

[ not once, ever, does it cross her mind that he might not want to kiss her in the middle of the ballroom when she is drunk. it only occurs to her that he is a passive participant to this pda. ]

You just, uh. Took me by surprise is all. [ EVEN THO YOU WARNED HIM??? ]
