The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme.  With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity.  Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.  

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums.    People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

in the harpy's nest

[ dimitri, david, and andrew are drawn out into the dark, frozen woods, which are eerily quiet, and they lose all sense of time and direction as their minds are overwhelmed by the captivating song. even when strange dark shapes begin swooping through the skeletal trees above them, they are strangely uninterested.

when talons scoop them up, digging painfully into their shoulders and lift them, they can offer no resistance, and are deposited, one by one, into a gigantic nest above.

two harpies, winged humanlike creatures about 6 feet tall that look like vicious hags with the lower half of a lizard like bird and a wingspan of 15 feet. they come close to the enthralled men, looking them over with their pitch black eyes as one continues singing hauntingly. their long stringy hair is matted with dirt, blood, and other filth.

they claw at the men, and i'm pretty sure they have to rip their shirts off just so we can have a shirtless men montage. so that happens.

AND THEN BEGINS THE TORTURE. WILL ANYONE SAVE THEM????????????? ]

Except Andrew is still all under the song's effects so everything is great while he gets tortured.

tbh the real torture is being shirtless next to McDreamy and McSteamy over here. Ugh. His ass is gonna be the last one saved fo sho.]

[ bo hears the song floating above the tree tops, and for a second would feel ready to give into the compulsion to let herself drown in it... but instead she recognizes that it's trying to influence her mind... and shakes it off. girl knows that trick. ]

She pulls a pretty big hunting knife out of her boot as she approaches, taking in the scene and glaring at the offending party.]

What the hell are you doing!?

[ the nest is high enough up that bo isn't able to see the boys, but she can certainly see the harpies, and tell that there are shapes up there that the one is harrassing. combined with what astrid told her about andrew wandering out here, it's probably not here to make the connection. one of them remains in the nest singing, but the other leaves off torturing the boys and leaps down towards her. /rolling for init! plurk incoming ]

Wow, that...kind of answers my question.

[Which means the evil creature has to die obviously. She runs forward, meeting the thing even as it's landing near her, all too happy to try and sink her blade into its chest. (atk 16, dmg 10 if it hits)]

[ the harpy swoops down at her, and her knife stabs it in the shoulder even as it tries to rake at her with its claws, nicking her with one (atk 15 & 19, 1 dmg). since it was a flyby attack, it swoops up and away again, hovering up out of her reach. ] Foolish girl!

Yeah, we'll see who's the foolish one when this is said and done.

[Because seriously that attack was weak gtfo bird brain. She throws the knife up at the creature, because frankly she'll just come up there and get it if she misses. (atk 17, dmg 7).]

[ the knife strikes the harpy in the side, and it lets out a shriek. it grabs something out of the nest before flying back out again - it looks like a metal baton of some kind, probably scavenged. it hovers way in the air glaring down at her. ]

Let them go. You don't want to make me come up there.

[Intimidate...crit fail. Hahahaha good one, Bo.]

[ the harpy cackles at bo's unimpressive posturing, and then dives down at her, swinging the pipe. it whiffs uselessly over bo's head as the harpy swoops away again (atk 12) ]

[Bo glances around, finding a rock about the size of her fist and dipping to pick it up (spot 25), before launching it at the stupid bird bitch. ...nat 20 atk, dmg 11.]

Get the hell down here, bird brain!

[ the rock nails the harpy right in the side of the head and she spirals down onto the ground a few feet away, landing hard. (10 falling dmg) above, the other harpy shrieks suddenly, stopping its song and allowing the boys to awake! and realize... where they are. shirtless. ]

[Dimitri blinks his eyes as his senses come back to him, and he looks around at his new companions with confusion before turning his gaze on what must have been their attacker.

He moves in and attempts to punch the harpy in the abdomen (atk 21, dmg 10 nonlethal)]

[David hates it when this happens and it has happened to him twice since he got to the castle. So much so that he's going to be dealing quite a bit of damage himself. When he spots the harpy he swings hard and fast (attack nat 20, damage 10 nonlethal).]

Fucking Christ! ...Bo? [And that's when Andrew realizes he's shirtless. Oh. Well, this is the worst night ever.]

[ the harpy up in the nest with the boys shrieks again as they both pummel her and backs away so they don't have her cornered or flanked, raking at dimitri (atk 19, 27; dmg 1) and striking him barely with one claw. the other harpy clambers to her feet, picking up her weapon again and hissing at bo. ]

[Listen 31 means she hears Andrew loud and clear over all the commotion.]

Yeah, I'm here. Working on it. You okay?

[And then the harpy gets to its feet, and Bo rolls her eyes.]

Ugh, don't you ever learn?

[And Bo is going to promptly close the distance between them and attempt kick the harpy with a very high-heeled boot (atk 15, dmg 8 lethal)]

[Dimitri doesn't even flinch as the creature grazes him with her claws, striking out again with his fist. (atk 14, dmg 10 nonlethat if he hits)]

[David is also happy to swing at it again, wanting to get rid of all his aggression if possible (attack 22, attack 7 nonlethal). He's just going to ... keep wailing on her until someone tells him otherwise.]
