The "afterparty" is the real main event of the night at every squiring, but tonight's party is a little different than usual - Faith has successfully lobbied (as in roped people into helping her decorate for) a Chinese New Year's party, or Lunar New Year, theme. With Knights from all over the world, it was easy to get input from those who traditionally celebrate the holiday, and Wynn is all about the spirit of cultural unity. Not to mention, the second of the 15 days of the spring festival is all about spending time with one's family and friends.

The lavish, opulent ballroom has been transformed, filled with red lanterns, peach blossoms, kumquat plants, and chrysanthemums. People are encouraged to dress in red to ward off evil spirits and bad luck, and avail themselves of the New Year's Cake, golden champagne cocktail, rice pudding, candied fruits, and the Tray of Togetherness.

As always, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).
The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

What, uh, was that all about?

[She knows of him? Sort of? Just from stories from Lila, which basically paints him like a pain in the ass that we like for some reason. Her hands are balled into fists at her side, jaw clenched firm as she tries to pretend like she's not looking in the direction Lila walked off in.]

I'm sorry. I didn't realize it was any of your business?

Actually, it literally is my business. I'm Lila's mentor, which includes keeping an eye on how she's settling in here... socially.

Actually, isn't your job to get off your ass and promote her? [Faye used DEFLECTION. It's probably not that effective.]

It's my job to make certain this place is good for her, in every way, before passing her through. She hasn't had it easy.

[That... actually causes her to snap her mouth shut, eyes flashing with the residual anger from the fight just moments before. She may or may not be debating how much trouble she would get in if she tried to set him on fire...]

Look, I just wanna make sure she's okay. I don't need all the sordid details.

She's just pissed. [at me] If you aren't used to that by now, I don't know where you've been.

She usually has a reason for it.

[She steps up close, sneering.]

[She lingers for a moment, still pissed before backing up and huffing a sigh.]

Probably not. [she takes a hesitant step forward. Dropping the tough girl act, she looks concerned and worried and still a little angry because that never goes away.] Whats going on?

Nothing's going on, Lila just-- Well, you know her. She's been through some stuff, and it hasn't exactly left her very well adjusted. I want to make sure that the people here, this kind of work, is going to be good for her, instead of driving her further into all that.
