Now officially Knighted, Vi exchanges her ceremonial armor for a wedding gown, and the guests head into London to gather at the Chelsea Physic Garden.  The evening is warm and clear, and the flowers in full bloom, chairs set up on the main lawn with name tags on them for people to find their seat.  Gentle Elvish music plays everyone in, and at the front of stands an arbor covered in wisteria.  It's a remarkably peaceful setting, enough to dispel further some of the grimness of the past few days and create an atmosphere of smiles and warmth.    It seems to reinforce what Luthir has been telling Vi all along: that maybe now more than ever, this is the sort of thing they need, in order to remember what they're all fighting for.

[ francesca can't keep her fears and worries out of mind for the whole evening, either, and she's not surprised to see spike sitting out on most of the fun. she is, however, concerned, so she's gonna pull up a chair next to him and keep him company, whether he likes it or not. ] Hey there. [ she offers him a small smile, scooting up to the table and crossing her legs. ] Have enough for two?

I can always get more. [He offers her his glass.] Enjoying this party as much as I am, then?

[ she takes the glass from him, offering a small smile of gratitude ] The party's wonderful. I'm more concerned with what will follow; when all the celebrating is done with and we're left with only the cruel reality of our current situation.

[bigbad]

I reckon you're one of the few that wants to think about the future. [Spike's one of the other few. He just has trouble focusing on having fun right now.] Nice as everything is here.

[socialgraces]

I can hardly blame you, of all people, for being preoccupied, even on such a... joyous occasion.

You want to talk about it? [ you know you do... ]

[bigbad]

[He shrugs.]

Not much to talk about. Just wish we were doing something.

Weeks in captivity, and there's "not much to talk about"? [ she's not trying to be accusatory, she's just worried about him ] I wish we were doing something, as well, but we've all been ordered to stand by until further notice. [ she's quite frustrated with all this waiting, too ]

[bigbad]

I'm no good at standing by. I'm better at busting heads.

[He doesn't respond to her question. No, of course there's lots to talk about. But it's hard to find the words.]

I think we all agree with that sentiment. But as good as we all are at that, we're also trained to follow orders.

Speak for yourself, pet. I think I skipped that day.

And here I thought that would be one of Lan's favorite lessons to bestow upon his squire. He certainly enjoys giving them. [ look at her trying to lighten the mood... ]

[bigbad]

[That gets a smirk.] I did wonder why they paired me with such an arse. Guess they'd hoped the lesson'd stick better than it did. I'm still surprised he promoted me at all. Probably just wanted to be rid of me.

Oh, I highly doubt that. He's never been the type to half-ass... well, anything.

[bigbad]

[Yeah, in Spike's experience when he's not being snarky, that's... pretty true.]

Well, he still didn't get the following orders bit to stick.

You're as hard-headed as he is. [ but she chuckles, bumping her shoulder against his in jest ]

[bigbad]

[He looks vaguely offended at the comparison, but he softens and smiles at her.]

I like to think harder-headed.

You certainly enjoy a challenge, then, don't you. [ now that they've warmed up to each other again, she feels more comfortable dragging out the serious topics of conversation ] When you go to Andres, are you going to be able to show the restraint necessary to complete the mission assigned to you?

[Wow you do not ask the easy questions, do you Francesca.] I'll do what needs doing.

[Whether he deems what needs doing to be the same as what Wynn deems needs doing remains to be scene.]

According to you, or according to Wynn? [ she's just curious ]

Wynn's not in the field. When it comes down to it, I'll be making my own calls.

To ensure Thomas's safe rescue and return? [ and not some crazy revenge-driven rampage? she's not really accusing him of such, as of now, but she just wants to make sure they're on the same page. ]

[bigbad]

Among other things. There are a lot of people still trapped there.

[It's not just revenge....]

I know, and with all those lives in our hands, we need to be extra cautious with our steps toward helping them.

[bigbad]

Don't you worry, pet, I'll be as cautious as I can stomach. [Which isn't necessarily saying much. But hey.]
