[ The communications tower team is two-fold, but they'll be traveling together to the Isle via a greater teleport scroll as well. The larger group arrives at the outskirts of the wood, and it's easy enough to spot the giant tower, not far off down the road. Night is falling, and they're shaded from the empty road at the moment by the tree line they're close to. Lis'sa looks irritated by the method of travel, checking over her supplies before confirming for them that they've landed on target. Zero hoists his laptop case onto his shoulder, as Aurelius pats himself down, obviously afraid of missing body parts from the jaunt. ]

[ the room to the comm tower control panel is easily labeled, and they run across no further guards upon their way there, although on their way up, zero notes: ]

They're gonna have someone operating the place, so we better be ready to take him out before he sends out a final SOS.

[ yes, let the pissed off child take care of that. jk don't. bad idea. she can only handle working so many people in such a short period of time. three isn't a lot but... it's not nothing. astrid is gonna kill her. as they approach though, she does holster one of her guns, leaving one hand free to probably choke a bitch again. ]

[ lis'sa stops outside the door, looking back at the others to make certain they're in position, and then nods, pushing it open.

a single operator is at the board, monitoring screens, but he does hear the door and turns, saying "What the--"

zero's ready for that shit, though. he raises and says: ] Boo. [ strange matrix lines shift over the guy's eyes as he crashes his will save, and then looks fucking terrified, visibly shaken and suffering a -2 to his saves and such, so get that shit lila. ]

[ lila hurries forward to recreate the last two times she took out a guard, hand slapping against his wrist to pull it away from his desk. (melee touch atk 22, will save dc 23) it doesn't have quite the same force as the guard that shot emma, but this guy... did not shoot emma, so.

you know. ]

[ haha yeah with his -2 he only got a ... 17 save, so dowwwwn he goes.

lis'sa tosses some zip ties at lila, as zero starts unloading his laptop. ] Get him secured. [ she yanks up her phone to contact zatanna: ] We're in position.

[ lila starts with the zip tying, gun tucked between her knees like that is in any way safe at all ever. the zip ties are so simple, these are gr8. no brain function necessary. which is good because she's starting to not look 100%, a little pale and shaky after cursing three people in quick succession, but maybe it's just worry. ]

[While Zero gets things sorted, Andrew has some time to glance back to Lila and see that she's... Well, she's not looking great (spot 18). Crouching beside her, he sets his gun down and reaches out to take over the zip tying, tightening it a bit, but it's mostly to get her attention.]

You okay? [He says, trying to keep his voice down. He doesn't want to alert the others, but he's also going to check that she's not about to pass out or something.]

I'm fine. [ it's brusque and short, but with no real heat behind it. more like she just wants to move on than any annoyance at being questioned. ] Go do your nerd thing, I've got this. No one else can do anything until you kill communications. Shoo.

[Andrew doesn't really look convinced, but he's also aware that this part of the mission is really important, so he gets up and heads over to Zero.]

Need a hand?

No, I need you to stand around with your thumb up your ass. [ #peopleskills ] Zatanna's team's about to cut the power, which will set up an effective reboot of the comm tower once the generators kick in. The reboot's gonna give us a limited window to hack in, and start our own program that'll give us the ability to shut down and hijack what channels we want. [ out of his laptop bag crawls a long beetle like metal thing about a foot and a half in length, which skitters its way over to the main console, and jams its pincers into the usb port. ] I've got spells that can keep the generators suppressed until we're ready to power this thing, and another doozy of an incantation that can even give this facility full power again, separate from the station, once we're running the show. Should be enough for us to intercept cell signals and all, but you and Lis'sa are on hacking duty to get those off-line. I've got enough to deal with over here.

[ standing up, lila offers this commentary, motioning toward the computer bug before she turns to lean against the doorframe and keep watch: ] That's gross.

Considering that thing's a part of me, I'll pretend I didn't hear that.

Right, I'll just-- [And then he goes to set up his own laptop?? Is that how this works? idk I'm not a hacker. But I figured I would just put his computer use check in here for the sake of ease and streamlining and no joke got a nat 20 so... go Andrew.]

[ it's very clear when zatanna's team succeeds

the power fucking goes out.

zero straightens up instantly, sharply says: ] Hold on to your balls. [ and then he slams a hand down, matrix lines creeping up over the console, and leaking onto the screen, reflected in his own eyes as he works his spells.

the screens blink to life, and the little homonculus glows and twitches, running the program they need. lis'sa says nothing, fingers clicking over the keys furiously (computer use 37). it's andrew, however, who is the shining star here, hacking through protocols almost as fast as they can appear, rerouting satellite signals, and together they make it so that not a single call on the island will go anywhere

[ if zero weren't the british honey badger version of her grandfather, lila would be hella attracted to everyone in this room. as it is, lis'sa gets most of her heart eyes once the lights go out and they start to work. sorry, andrew. it was very hot, she will make sure to send the dark and blurry iphone video to bo later...

she moves forward to pat his shoulder. ] Good work. I'm starting to see why your girlfriend likes you. [ she holds up her cell phone, she's been waiting patiently with it while this majestic show of technological prowess has been happening. ] Can I text everyone now?

[Andrew was so in the zone, he barely realized that anything else was going on. When Lila comes over, he looks down at her, slightly confused but quirks his lip up into a secret smile because she's ~not just his girlfriend now~ but that's really not important right now.]

Should be clear? [But he phrases it enough like a question since he's looking to Lis'sa for the official green light.]

All clear. [ is that an actual half-smile???? yes it is. ]

[ so the entirety of drakenet, including wynn, gets the following text: ]

[Andrew's phone goes off, and even though he knows what it is, he checks it anyway and sees her wording and snorts. (knowledge pop culture 30)]

Fuckin' Miracle Max over here... [Oh, was Lis'sa smiling? Did she know how to smile? Did he do a good???]

Let's not get cocky. We've gotta hold this down until the other teams make it through without fucking up. And if anyone suspects something's up with the tower, they'll swarm this place before we know what hit us.

[ he looks back at lila ] You wanna go check on your friend, now's as good a time as any.

[ she hesitates, because lila... doesn't want to see emma like that. it's the reason she took over and chose to go with zero in the first place. denial is a beautiful thing. licking her lips, she swallows, paling further as zero forces her to face it. so, naturally, she deflects again. ]

Who's going to field the calls that come in? Andrew's a shitty liar and I've made you do what I want. [ aka she is irreplaceable and needs to stay in the room until further notice. she just got emma back, she can't go back there and possibly lose her. she won't be able to cope. but she's not going to say that out loud, trying to tell zero all of that without actually saying a word, mismatched eyes clearly giving away the terror she feels at he prospect of leaving the room.

[ well now she feels unwanted because only eric and zero are that skilled in making her feel dismissed and with a sense motive crit fail, she feels very, very unworthy. ] Whatever.

but fear not, she returns ten minutes later with emma because what they really need in this room is someone covered in blood. it's highly sought after decor on andres probably. ]
