Just as before, accessing the secret room where the Round Table is housed requires using the Knight's keycard to open the glass case beside the mural of the War in Heaven, located across from the ballroom entrance. Using the fire extinguisher as a lever to activate the "door" mechanism reveals the long torch-lit hall plastered in artwork depicting the Knight's history. The tenants of the Knighthood hang large and foreboding over the doors at the end of the hall, which stand open to reveal the brightly lit Round Table, and the majestic crystalline dragon statue presiding over it.

[like she's going to turn down the chance to preen about herself??? not even once.] Biology. Pre-med, specifically. But I already have all those classes out of the way, so it's basically just a couple electives I have to knock out.

[ Venus purrs louder nuzzling her head at Astrid's neck.]

[ Mars looks a little somber at the mention of murder but nods. He really should be excited but that hasn't clicked yet.]

[ Plebes, all of you. Lydia's tempering her excitement until she finds out— ] What matter?

For the past few weeks, the police there have been investigating a string of apparently ritualistic murders. So far, the detectives have deduced that there are no connections among the victims, except that all were males in excellent health. The murders took place in back alleys as well as private residences, indicating that the perpetrator spent considerable time stalking the victims in order to discover the best time and place to strike. Each victim was missing both hands, and many were missing other body parts as well. All of the amputations had been performed with extreme skill.

Now there are two more bodies. Though neither of them are missing body parts, the officers on the scene still suspect some tie-in with the previous murders - something about a knife, they say. Because of the apparent ritual nature of the murders, the police are concerned that there is some magic at the heart of it, and have decided to turn the investigation over to us.

You know, just because it's a new calendar year doesn't mean my dead body quota gets reset.

[ Despite her snide attitude, she doesn't seem in any way genuinely opposed to investigating: after all, it needs to be done, or more people are going to die. ]
