February in Romania isn't very comfortable, so hopefully everyone bundled up for this little trip into the countryside.  The appearance of a mysterious bank of fog into which several locals have gone inexplicably missing upon entering, has caused Wynn to speculate that it might be connected to the mist that appears when the Veil brings people from other worlds.  Could this be the first instance of a door going the other way?  If so, here's hoping it's a round trip...

[ He's not panicking just yet, but he's worried, really worried. But he chimes in: ]

[Paige is still holding onto the rope in complete and utter shock.] What... What if they don't make it here in time?

[ aurelius gulps. ] What are we going to tell them? That we lost the Dragon's Hide sect leader? [ he shakes his head, looks between them nervously ] If we call anyone in, they'll have to go in too, and we might lose more of the Knights' best. [ he looks down, abruptly miserably resolute ] I'd rather they lose someone like me. I'll find them.

No! [Willow has some feelings on this matter. But she's at least thinking clearer to not try to stop him completely.]

If...if one of us goes, then we all should. [she looks to Paige and Henry.] Wynn made this team for a reason, right?

Willow's right, Aurelius. We're a team. We have to bring them home and solve this mystery together.

[ They have to do something. Wynn knew this could happen, but he picked all of them specifically because none of them give up on people, Henry knows that. So, he nods resolutely. ]

Either we all go home, or none of us do.

[pickyourbattles]

[ he reaches for willow's hand, giving it a grateful squeeze. ] I know we can do this. [ taking a deep breath, he steps towards the edge of the fog ] On 3?

[Paige takes a deep breath and takes Willow's other hand, reaching out for Henry's.] On 3.

[ annnnnnd off they go~!

the cloying fog closes in around them as they vanish into the thick mist.

when they come through, they find themselves with the mist behind them, as well as a set of big black iron gates, as if they just walked through them. they're standing on a cobblestone path or road, surrounded by oppressive blackened dense trees. it seems to be twilight, and feels like late fall. the air feels wet, and nathan stands a few feet in front of them, looking down at what appear to be five bodies splayed out across the road. the dead bodies all wear very bright, flowing, poofy clothing, stained with blood and gore now, as if they'd been savaged by a pack of wild wolves.

dovan is nowhere in sight. ]

Oh my gods. [Paige, in true cleric faction, runs over to the bodies to see if any of them can be helped, forgetting that Nathan upset her.] Nathan, are you all right? Are they-

[She looks around.] Where is Sir Dovan?

[nathan doesn't say anything immediately because he is shellshocked and might be experiencing some form of ptsd. NOT MORE DEAD PEOPLE. life is really hard for him udek.]

Looks like a werewolf did it, yeah? The bloke my mum was seeing was a werewolf but he was a twat.

It could be a lot of things. [Willow pipes up, a little defensive that the first thought is werewolves. She knows some nice werewolves, okay.] I mean-- we should probably find out more about what happened before we make any assumptions about what we're looking out for.

Willow's right, this could be...anything. [ And he's also really fond of Cora, who is also a werewolf, so maybe he's feeling slightly defensive as well. ]

I hope Sir Dovan is okay. [ He takes a step closer to one of the bodies, kneeling, not really wanting to look, but maybe there's a clue or some sort of useful information nearby. He's worried, thinking about Sir Dovan possibly out there with whatever did this to these people. ]

[ make a knowledge (nature) check, henry~ ] Did everyone, er, bring a weapon?

[ With a knowledge (nature) check of 15, Henry peers a little closer, hoping to find something helpful. He answers Aurelius while he's at it, though. ] I have a knife with me.

[ it's enough to see that the wolves or whatever seem to have killed them, but not actually... mauled them to eat them. which is weird.

he would also find a scrap of paper on one of them and a map on another. ] What are those?

I have my whip, but- [OOOH stuff. Paige gathers around Henry to see for herself.]

Just a knife and some spell stuff over here. [But she's also super curious about what Henry might have found.]

[ Standing up, Henry holds both pieces of paper out so it's easy for everyone to see. ] There's a letter here, and a map.

These people - whatever attacked them, it just...killed them. It doesn't look like they wanted to eat them. [ Which wouldn't be normal for a wolf. ]

They were going to save that woman I bet. [She looks pleadingly at Aurelius and the others.] Oh, we can't just ignore this. Maybe the people in the village know where to find Dovan.

[just blurts out several seconds late] I have grenades!

[Slow head turn towards Nathan.]

Maybe don't jump right to grenades. But we should definitely try to find out what happened. And we have a map! Which should help, right?

Barovia... [ aurelius frowns deeply at the name. ] I know this land. It's found on another continent in the world I hail from - from the Shadow World. [ he looks up, taking a concerned second look at the landscape ] We're actually here.

So we're at your place? [he wrinkles his nose and instantly blames aurelius for why they are not dinosaur vikings rn.]
