[Risa would wait until what she considers a likely hour for the girl to be awake before knocking lightly on her door around eleven-ish.  She's dressed in a simple dark blue dress that's rather conservative in cut, ignore all that cleavage going on in her icons...  

She patiently waits around to see if Rayna answers.  Or eventually comes out...]

[Risa seems pleased with the girl's choice of question and makes her way in, looking about for a chair] I'm a member of the Dragon's Light - more specifically, a cleric. I'm not certain how familiar you are with the concept but...

[She turns towards her again with a small smile, looking reflective] I worship the god of Healing, and dedicated my life to his cause. You could say he led me here - it's what I believe, at least. To a place where they deserve a divine hand to help protect them from danger. My god provides me the power to do what I can for them.

[mellifluence]

[Luckily there are a few golden benches pushed up against the balustrade, so Rayna motions to one for Risa to sit on. It's easy enough to pull another out to the side for herself, so she can face her knight while they talk, and she crosses her legs under her as she sits.]

Do you think that he'd do the same for me? Bring me here to help others, I mean. I'm not very well-versed in a lot of things, but I do want to help.

[layonhands]

[Risa lowers herself onto the low bench, gracing crossing her legs at the ankles and placing her hands in her lap, her expression thoughtful.]

I believe all things happen for a reason, especially a calling as strong as the Knights. We all have something to offer, and if we are willing to listen and seek within ourselves, we may find it is more than we ever expected it could be.

[mellifluence]

I'll do whatever I have to do. [She cuts her gaze over to Boaz and then down to her hands.] I just want to find my place--wherever it is.

[She only has a couple more boxes to fill on her list of things she wants to get out of knighthood--that really is the main one.]

Is there anything I should focus on, as your squire?

[layonhands]

Actually, your squiring period is all about you, and doing just that: finding your place. It's unlikely that my specialty will be yours, as well. Calling it a 'squiring period' at all is misleading, if you ask me. Traditionally, a squire learns while serving, but you'll learn by doing exactly what we all do. You'll just have me there to answer any questions or help you when you find yourself at a loss.

[mellifluence]

Oh, that's...kind of a relief. When you said you were a cleric, I was worried. It could take a lifetime to win the favor of a god. Not that I wouldn't try, I was just--yeah.

Though I guess that means I have to learn even faster. All the other squires I've met are really great.

[layonhands]

I'm sure you're just as wonderful. We just have to figure out what it is that makes you special.

As for the gods, however, it only takes a moment to pledge your devotion. If you truly mean it, the gods won't demand proof. Your actions will speak for you.

[mellifluence]

[Risa is so nice, Rayna really can't get over it.] That's nice of them. I guess I always imagined them being a lot more demanding.

But as far as things I'm good at... [She thinks for a moment.] I've just always loved animals and I've worked with a few. Actually, there's something I should probably show you.

[She slides off of the back of her seat and hops over the balustrade to get to her bed.] Since you're helping me, I want to be honest. [She returns with a small journal, the hard, green cover having seen better days.]

Before he left, a friend of mine gave me this. There's a lot of information about animals and...other things. But then there's this... [She flips to the middle and holds it open to Risa.] He wrote a lot in this language. Most of it's just repeating what was already there, though.

[layonhands]

[Risa leans over a bit to watch the girl as she retrieves the journal, then reaches to take it gratefully and carefully, her eyes tracing over the pages]

Are you able to read this?

[mellifluence]

Most of it. That was our deal: in order to stay with him, I had to learn his language.

[layonhands]

Were you learning from him?

[mellifluence]

Only when he felt like teaching. [She hesitates.] I was really just dating him and observing. There were some things he thought I should know and others he told me I didn't.

[layonhands]

What happened to him? [The question is tentative and she amends:] You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to.

[mellifluence]

No, it's okay. It's not an interesting story, though. I was just out to town one day, and when I came back that was on my bed. He had this beautiful hawk named Sage, and she was there, too. He left us both behind.

[She shrugs, hoping to discard her feelings along with it. She really doesn't like to make it seem like a big deal.] I think he was ready to move on, and I still wasn't ready to let go... but who knows; he was an elf and I always had to guess what he was thinking.

[layonhands]

Elven logic can be a bit baffling to the rest of us all, yes. Sometimes longer lived species fear that they're holding the rest of us up if they get too wrapped up in our lives.

[mellifluence]

That's-- [she smiles slowly] --a good way of thinking.

[And she's even happier that Risa is her knight. A fresh perspective is always nice.]

Can you tell me anything about what we'll face out there? On missions and things.

[layonhands]

Well, most of our missions are broken down into two types of situations, though it's seldom as black and white as all that.

Either it's our job to help protect the inhabitants of this world from something that's come from the Shadow World that threatens them: a monster, a group of dangerous Shadowkind that don't understand what's happened to them and lash out, a cursed object, that sort of thing, or to do the opposite. There are many people in this world who fear anything they don't fully understand, and try to oppress those from the other world, or even those who use magic in this world.
