The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Totally. Way less pressure to perform. All we really have to do is look nice and partake in all of the snacks.

[She grins as she helps herself. She knew she liked you, Shawn-- anyone who comes prepared with snacks is okay in her book.]

Speaking of performing-- that mean you're not giving us an encore this time around?

[One should always be prepared for a Snack Emergency. That is Rule #1 of any handbook Shawn has ever written. He grabs one for himself and pops it in his mouth, shaking his head as he takes a second to chew.]

I've decided to only save it for really important occasions. I wouldn't want to get too played out like Katy Perry, or that song about waking up in the morning feeling like Bo Diddley.

Right. Seeing as it's an age-old song that's had the opportunity to change over the years.

[She smirks, amused.]

Ke$ha, by the way. Don't think you're in danger of getting that played out, but I can respect you saving yourself for special occasions. I'll just have to look forward to the next one, then-- you put on quite a show.

Though I've been told by my mentor if I ever do it on a mission, he will never promote me.

I don't know, it's a pretty useful talent. Not everyone has the knack for it.

[She doesn't recall who his mentor is offhand, but she thinks it's a real shame if it turns out they don't appreciate the value of a good distraction.]

Sometimes an over-the-top distraction is exactly what you need to get the job done.

So where've you been keeping yourself since you got knighted?

Here and there. I am on a grand and epic quest.

[Because he is a knight after all, therefore all quests are grand and epic. He inches closer and drops his voice so that it's just between him and Abbie, even though he has no sense of stealth whatsoever.]

I've heard rumor that there may be a dragon kept somewhere in the castle.

Fitting for any proper knight, of course.

[She hasn't quite felt grand or epic since she got here, but only because it's been such a sudden change. She'd had an epic quest of her own, of sorts, but that's on hold as long as she's here-- hopefully, she'll be able to put herself to good use sometime sooner rather than later.

She leans in when he inches closer, raising her eyebrows.]

A dragon? [For real?] You serious?

I mean come on, think about it. Knights of the Silver Dragon? There has to be an original dragon that kicked it all off, right?

[leftenants]

I see the logic, but you really think there's one hanging around in the basement?

[Or wherever.]

Seems like a dragon would be pretty tough to hide.

They have magic. And secret passages!

[A beat.]

Okay, so I may not have proven the secret passages yet, but I'm sure if they really wanted to hide a dragon, they could do it.

I've seen lesser places with secret passages. You're probably onto something.

[Dragon might take some more convincing, though. Apparently, demons are fine and dandy, magic is perfectly acceptable, but dragons?

She's not so sure about those.]

So-- I shouldn't be surprised if I come across you spending a few afternoons searching for its underground lair, then.

Obviously. What else would I be doing on my downtime between missions?

[Because training? Reading up on magic and things? Actually learning about the world around him? Psh. Why do those practical things when he could be searching for a dragon?]

Of course-- silly of me to ask, right?

[She grins. She enjoys him-- it's nice to have someone around who so effortlessly manages to keep the mood light, even when by all accounts, she still has plenty of reason to be freaking out after a couple of months here.]

Well, if you ever need backup, squires have to stick together.

I should check in with Sir Hawley before he gets himself into trouble-- I'll be keeping an ear out for that call, though.
