The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ It's been a few years and Steve still gets a little red when a woman compliments him. He bows his head momentarily and smiles. Finally he lifts his hand up with every intention of shaking hers.

She probably has more confidence than Steve, but that's really not that hard. He's not exactly the most skilled when it comes to situations like these. He does better when he's got bullets whizzing past his head or something wants to kill him. Not this. ]

Hi. Steve Rogers. [ He can fake it. Hopefully. ]

Amelia Pond. Pleasure. [ she literally winks. ] First day?

[ He really could use Sam's help here. Or at least some backup. Someone to deflect the conversation or even keep it going. Sometimes Steve gets a little silent, but not on purpose. It just happens.

Steve awkwardly lifts a hand to smooth down the front of his suit and clear his throat. ]

Yeah. I uh--I'm a squire now. I guess. [ The most awkward turtle. ] What about you?

Same, have been for a couple months. I showed up after the be rumpus on Andres. [ her head tips thoughtfully. ] Now if Wynn starts putting you on the recruitment posters, I bet the numbers would swell overnight.

[ ur gorg, sir. ]

[ Steve and compliments still don't quite go hand in hand. He looks down for a moment and feels that familiar redness creep into his cheeks. He swallows it down (not really he sucks at this) and looks up at her. Steve gives her a grin. Wide and clearly not used to taking compliments. ]

Thank you. I don't know about swell. I was a walking recruitment back during World War two though.

Were you now? [ her eyes rake over him. ] Lookin' good on it, mate. My math puts you at what, 102? 99? Somewhere in there, yeah?

Yes, ma'am. They plastered my face on every poster they could cook up.

[ Steve just smiles at her. ]

Little less. I appreciate you trying though. Not many people try to do the math.

I'm Scottish, the UK is really invested in World War 2. [ she shrugs, determined to go back through her text books and try to find steve's face. uncle sam wants you, and steve does, too! ]

That it was. I remember that well.

[ Well, maybe half his face. Most of the posters picture Steve with his mask on. ]

I'll probably have a mask on. Very red, white and blue. They called me Captain America then.

Oh, that's adorable.

[ Steve laughs quietly and nods. ]

Yeah. It was aimed to appeal to everyone. Little kids go and tell their mom and dad to support Captain America. I had comics and trading cards.

You were a comic? [ she bleats out a cheerful and slightly incredulous laugh. ] That's brilliant!

Not--not many people have that reaction when they learn that.

[ Some don't believe him. Others think he's trying to brag. It's just a fact of his life. ]

I think they stopped making the comics when I went missing. Pretty sure they started back up after the incident in New York.
