The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[ He turns at the sound of her voice, a friendly smile already curving across his lips at the sound of the feminine voice and distinct accent. His gaze skims over her face as he dips his head in greeting, lips quirking crookedly. He doesn't turn his charm on so much as focus it for the moment, because let's be real, it's a party. Hawley's been flirting for most of the evening, even if it's mostly been for fun rather than real intent. ]

Hello, yourself. Hell of a party, yeah?

Usually is. Guest list sometimes leaves something to be desired.

[ you're engaged, amy, knock it off. shhhh jeff won't mind. she holds out her hand, still with that friendly smile like a shark about to swallow him whole. ]

Hopefully I'm not one of those terrible undesirables.

[ He reaches out to take her hand, his grip warm and skin calloused from the work he does. Or did. He's still trying to figure out what that is now, in this strange place. And he matches her smile with one of his own, eyes crinkling up with it, warm and bemused. ]

Nick Hawley. Recently of New York. One of them, anyway.

Oh yeah? I was talking 'bout New York recently. Always wanted to go there. [ she leans forward, excitement a little childlike. ] 's it really like all the movies? All yellow taxi cabs and Mafia blokes sending folks to sleep with the fishes?

[procurer]

That would be the city parts of New York and... sometimes, but not entirely. Yes there's a lot of yellow taxis, and I'm sure that maybe somewhere there's still 'Mafia blokes' sending people swimming. Maybe. Probably. Although maybe by now they've gotten more subtle in their disposal attempts. I don't actually know any to ask.

[ That's not true. He does have a few contacts that have contracted him for jobs before, but they're the sort of people he actively avoids not pissing off, since he'd rather not find out firsthand what the modern version uses to get rid of their problems. ]

Here? I haven't the faintest. No idea which of my old haunts even still exist in this place. [ That was depressing. ] If it's anything like home, though, the nightlife is amazing if you like the club and bar thing. If not, there's museums that are considerably calmer. And the shows, I'm pretty sure everyone knows about those. It depends on what you like?

Oh I like everything. [ and she's taking in everything he says, nodding along at all the "places" he's mentioned. ] Statue of Liberty a must see?

[procurer]

It's a bit of a tourist trap, but it'd be worth a look. Especially if you like everything.

Good to know that's still here, at least.

What about you? [ He glances back at her now, curious and friendly as he inclines his head. ] Been anywhere interesting in your time here? Or back home? Where are you from?

Scotland. [ obvious enough from her accent, but she puffs up with nationalist pride. good ol' scotland. ] Grew up in this rubbish town, Leadworth, in England. It doesn't exist here. [ a beat. ] For the best really. Jeff wanted to get married at Saint John's, now we'll have to find some place else.

[procurer]

Jeff? [ His face scrunches up curiously. ] And I thought that you might be, but I don't know what does and doesn't exist here yet, so I figured I'd better save the assumptions.

[keptbiting]

Fiancé. [ she fidgets uncomfortably, like she doesn't like the word. ] Everyone thinks I'm English -- [ her nose wrinkles, but she reaches out to pat hawley's arm like ur a good. ] -- so thanks for not.

[procurer]

You're welcome. [ He grins at the pat, but gives her a curious look a moment later. ] Fiancé, huh? That wasn't very enthusiastic sounding.

[keptbiting]

I'm here, he's not, I'm still working on how that's meant to... you know, work.

[procurer]

[ He winces. ] Ouch. Yeah, that... would make things difficult. I'm sorry.

You miss him?

[ That's probably a dumb question. ]

Yeah. I mean, you know, I-- I love him. [ lmao she doesn't seem nearly as confident as she should in that sentence. ]

[procurer]

Why does it sound like there's a giant 'but' looming at the end of that statement?

[ He's an observant sort. Even though that wasn't really required there. At all. ]
