The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Whoa, hey. [ he takes a step back, hand not holding his drink lifting in a placating gesture of innocence. ]

Gus, actually. Not Andy. And, might I add, racism, we don't all look alike.

[She exhales heavily. Luckily, she's pretty reasonable all-around, and quick to catch on. Now that she gets a good look at him, there are too many differences-- mannerisms, speech, even the way he holds himself, but damn if they aren't identical.]

Not racism.

[She corrects him sharply, pressing her lips together.]

Sorry, you just look-- exactly like someone I used to know. Uncanny, really. Didn't mean to start us off on the wrong foot.

There's a Korean named Andy? Look at us Americanized assholes. [ he shakes his head but doesn't seem in anyway insulted or even too fussed. she must be from the other side of the veil. ]

It's fine, I've heard worse shit. You're one of the veil transplants, then.

[leftenants]

Andy Brooks, even.

[She smiles grimly. Talk about Americanized-- but mostly it helps her to make light of the situation, helps her ignore how fast her heart had been racing when she'd turned and thought she'd seen her former colleague.]

But yeah, I am. Turned up a couple of months ago, got squired last month, still trying to find my feet. Abbie is fine.

Gus Harrison. [ he smirks a little because it's equally americanized, but only malina and probably wynn know what his name was in south korea before he and his parents moved. (malina only knows because his mother used it when she yelled at him in their native tongue and wynn because...

it's wynn.) ]

[Abbie is pretty sure that being Wynn comes with more perks than she can imagine, honestly.]

Nice to meet you, Gus. Sorry again. Andy and I didn't part on great terms.

[He was a reanimated corpse at the time, on top of stalking her. It was complicated.]

It's fine, really. I grew up in the Bronx, gay and Korean. [ not to mention magical and an immigrant. thank god he's a fucking man, otherwise he'd have ticked off too many boxes on the oppression questionnaire. SO OPPRESSED. luckily he is a wealthy man, so he's fine. ] I really have heard much worse shit. You didn't make me a punching bag, it's cool.

Glad to have cleared the bar on that one. I try my best not to assault most people I meet until I've had the chance to get to know them a little better.

So what is it that brought you here from New York? Quite a trip.

[Like she's one to talk.]

My grandfather was a knight, way before I was born. My mom directed me here. [ after his father and his young sister died. janine harrison had always talked about the knighthood with him and lucy, to the point that when he left... he'd only had one place in mind.

So, family business.

[She knew there were a few people whose families were connected to the Knights, but she thinks Gus is the first one she's met.]

Malina mentioned it happens that way for some people. Still learning about how things work on this side of the veil.

Well, Malina would know. She fucking followed me here. [ he shrugs, but cracks a smile, looking fond. best friends, yo. ]

You go way back, I take it.

[Malina had mentioned it was something like a family business for her, too.]

Almost twenty years. [ ugh they're so old. ] We met in college.

[leftenants]

[Abbie lets out a low whistle.]

A lot of people fall out of touch after college. Good for you for sticking with each other.

She didn't give me much choice.

[leftenants]

She does seem like the persistent type.

That's one way to put it. [ the complimentary way to put it, tbh. gus would have just said irritatingly stubborn. ]

[Probably the same terminology Abbie herself would use concerning certain friends. She smiles, lifting her glass to him for a moment.]

Well, it's been a pleasure, but I think I see one of the new squires flagging me down. Friend from home. It was nice to meet you, Gus. [Even if it had scared the crap out of her initially.] Maybe we'll work together soon?

Yeah, you too. [ he gives her a little nod and lets her go on her way. ]
