The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

[Look it's honestly amazing that they've gotten around to black people and mutliple women in the sequel expecting asians in space is going a step or so too far.

Han nods as he shakes Hawley's hand. It's pronounced exactly how it looks, okay, you can only go so wrong.]

That's me. How'd they trick you into joining up?

[procurer]

[ Hey look, there were always Twi'lek women. Hawley would have appreciated those just as much. ]

Got dragged out of my vacation to stop a sorcerer from blocking out the sun and then they distracted me with shinies. A lot of shinies. Next thing I know? There's swords and people trying to make me promise to stop lying, and I gotta tell you man, I apologize ahead of time, but I'm not so sure I'm cut out for this whole Knight business.

[ It was definitely a little late to be having second thoughts about the whole thing, but as this guys was supposed to be his Obi-Wan or whatever, Nick figured it was safer to be honest up front. ]

[Han gives a sharp grin and shakes his head.]

Don't worry, those're more guidelines than strict rules. Hard to keep the secret in Secret Organization without a little bit of lying. And besides, it's useful.

[.....clearly Han is going to be the best influence ever he is nailing this.]

[procurer]

[ He really is. You're his current hero, Not-Asian-dude.

Relief flares over his face at that, because he might have been worrying a little bit that they were gonna hold that one in pretty strict regard. Abbie seemed to at least, but then she took everything a little too seriously. This whole pomp and ceremony thing was probably right up her alley. Him? Not so much. ]

That is the best thing I've heard all day. Much better than potentially wondering if I'm going to get my head lopped off next time I accidentally do something stupid.

[ 'Accidentally' ]

So what parts do I have to worry about?

[parsecs]

Mostly? Protecting people. Fighting evil. It ain't too hard to figure out, most of the time. [He shrugs a shoulder.] And Wynn's pretty lax on beheadings. You gotta really piss him off before he brings out the headsman.

[procurer]

I'll try to avoid pushing his buttons, then. [ Hawley chuckles and tucks his hands in his pockets, rocking back on his heels thoughtfully. ] The rest of it... I suppose I've been doing that more often back home anyway, of late. Why not here too?

Is Wynn the one that decides who the evil is we're fighting? Or are people more obvious about it here?

[ The sorcerer blotting out the sun certainly hadn't been all that subtle. ]

Wynn gives out the missions. But once we're in the field it's usually up to us to make that call. [And it's not always obvious, and not every knight will make the same choice. But that's the price of becoming a knight.]

[procurer]

And he's okay with that?

[ Hawley sounds a little skeptical about that. Then again, he's pretty much used to working for no one but himself. Sure, he takes jobs, but that's for the money and the clients never care what he does, just so long as it doesn't land them in trouble and he gets them the item or service they're paying him for.

This? This already feels like something entirely different. it's been a long time since he's had to answer to anyone other than himself. ]

[parsecs]

Probably better than knights calling him every five minutes to be like "Hey, Wynn, these guys are gonna kill me unless I come up with some kinda convincing lie, is it okay just this once?"

[procurer]

[ Nick can't help it, he starts laughing at that one. ] I suppose that would be problematic for everyone involved, yes.

I'm just not used to working for someone else, you know? At least not in this capacity. I take jobs, back where I come from, but then they're just a client. I decide how I go about getting them what they want and as long as they get it, they don't usually care about the details. [ This guy's supposed to be his mentor, Hawley feels like maybe he better explain up front, just to make sure there's no "misunderstandings" later on. ]

[parsecs]

So that's why they sent you to me. [Han shoots him a lopsided grin.] I've done some of that back in my day. Used to be a smuggler before I fell in with the Rebel Alliance. And when we beat back the Empire they made me a General. [He shrugs a shoulder, looking a bit smug.] Besides, once you marry a Princess you gotta go straight.

[procurer]

[ Nick's eyebrows wing upwards in surprise at that and he gives a low whistle, impressed. ] Damn, dude. That sounds like some pretty epic shit right there. Sounds like you stumbled into a hell of a mess. A General married to a Princess, huh? And here I thought that only happened in fairy tales.

[ Then again, considering what his past few months had been, he's not sure what he's stumbled into either. ] I was a treasure hunter. Found old relics, weapons, records, things like that. There was a lot of money in it and I was good at it. Then an old [ flame ] contact of mine got me involved in some really messed up crusade to keep the end of the world from happening. It pretty much went downhill from there.

[parsecs]

Heh, well. [Han gives an easy smirk.] She ain't much of a fairy tale princess. We don't have the same kinda stories where I'm from, but what I've seen 'em here, most of the princesses in the stories can't wield a blaster like she can.

World being Earth, right? Or Faerun? [If they just refer to it as the world it's usually one of those two.]

[procurer]

Blaster. That like a gun? Man. I think I already like the sound of her. She sounds badass.

Faerun? [ That's one he's never heard of before. His face screws up in thought as he makes note of it. ] Yeah, I'm from Earth. Like this one, actually. Except... not. I'm still figuring out what we've got the same and what we've got different. Aside from the whole knowledge about alternate realities and shit. That one's still weird.

[parsecs]

She's around here somewhere. [Things with Leia are complicated, but he's still glad to have her near. It makes his family feel a little less broken.]

It's what they call the Shadow World. The one where all the, uh, orcs and elves come from. Used to be that's the only one people came here from, but things're different now. It ain't where I'm from.

[procurer]

Yeah, I guessed that. Besides, you don't look much like an orc or an elf.

[ He wonders if that was where the chick who stabbed him was from? ]

So what's it like, where you're from?

[parsecs]

A whole lot bigger, for one. [He points upwards.] We ain't tied to just one planet. Don't know how people stand it.
