The "afterparty" is rumored to be the real main event of the night. A black-tie affair in the lavish, opulent ballroom, it is every new Knight's chance to mingle and meet some of their new brothers in arms. Of course, a couple hours are provided following the ceremony for everyone to change, do hair and makeup, and choose from the vast array of formal attire in the closets of the balcony "dressing rooms" located at the top of spiraled staircases on either side of the ballroom. A separate dressing room exists for men and women, and they include full bathrooms (with, thankfully, very modern plumbing).

The squires are usually among the last to arrive, and the ballroom is full to the brim with a fancy array of people, of all shapes, sizes and species.

Hope you aren't shy. They're all here to meet you.

Feel free to make your own open threads for people to come congratulate your newly pledged knight.

ooc; also if your Knight wants to get all gussied up, you can make a Disguise (Cha) check for how good they were at hair/makeup/stylin', etc! This goes for... any time.

Sawyer OTA

[incantatio]

[Sawyer does find her way back to the dressing room after the formalities are dispensed with but she doesn't take a whole lot of time getting ready. As if in a hurry, she grabs the first dress that catches her eye, slipping out to join the festivities while others are still browsing the racks of gowns.

Sawyer manages to scrub up pretty nicely, in spite of her rushing though. (Disguise 16). Fitting in well enough with those who have used the after party as an excuse to get their fancy on.

With a drink in hand, she spends much of her evening getting to know the other Knights. Anyone who happens to catch snippets of her conversations might take her to be the curious type, the brunette asking plenty of questions about the Knights, even the other branches that exist around the world.

When she's not coming in or out of conversations she can easily be found at the bar, content to people watch for a while and while she's not the type to ask somebody to dance with her, the tapping of a foot, fingers or nodding of her head to the beat of whatever song is playing probably suggests that she wouldn't be opposed to being asked.]

[ apparently alice couldn't decide on what to wear and just grabbed a shirt out of her boyfriend's closet like that'll do pig. she was not unintentionally setting out to match her new squire, but when she notices sawyer arrive she also notices that they're wearing a very similar shade of blue. whoops.

the idea of changing is too much for her -- why she showed up in flannel to begin with -- so she heads over to sawyer like whatever. ]

Yo, welcome for real and stuff. [ it's not exactly loquacious, but it comes with a friendly smile. ]

[Surprise marks Sawyer's features as she takes in Alice's apperanace, not because she's judging the casual look but because she's now realizing she totally could have rocked jeans and a shirt and nobody would have cared.

Yeah, thanks. [Swallowing down a mouthful of, whatever the hell she'd just snagged from a passing tray.] You guys like, seriously go all out with the whole, ceremony and after-party thing, huh? [Shit be fancier than she was expecting.]

Yeah, it's definitely a thing. It's been pretty solidly monthly since I've been here. You know, always recruiting, fighting the good fight for... the British version of Uncle Sam.

[ her head cants to the side, thoughtful. there has to be an equivalent, so out comes her phone to find it. ] John Bull. That guy.

Monthly? [Surprise fading as she bobs her head.] Kinda surprised I never ran into you guys before New York.

[Her nose wrinkles at the John Bull reference.] You had me at Uncle Sam... It's all very, modern day Camelot, huh? I figured that's what the whole Karthur Institute thing is about?

The symbolism isn't incredibly subtle, true. We have a round table and knights. That sword was literally Excalibur. But we do try to keep under the radar, you might have run into us before and just never realized. [ shrug, she doesn't know if there's an office in nyc, the only one she was sort of nebulously aware of was the one in boston.

[Her words earn Alice a wry, half grin from Sawyer as she bobs her head, something knowing in her eyes. (Bluff... 5, its like she doesn't even try.)]

More than likely, yeah. New York gets its fair share of the unusual, even outside of Manhattan.

Especially lately. Some Knights were there during the Hudson massacre. [ she glances down, saddened by the memory. alice may hate new york on principle of being from boston alone, but she wouldn't wish that on any city.

it predated her time with the knights, but only just barely. ]

[Her own smile tightens, lips all but disappearing as they press together and she bobs her head.]

I had wondered. [If they were involved in some way, for all the good anyone could have done that is.] I'm getting the idea you guys see that sort of thing all the time?

[One day she will start saying We and not You.]

I wouldn't say all the time, but when your whole thing is fighting evil in it's many forms, yeah. It's a pattern.

[ she shrugs, fingers lifting to tug at her shirt in a faintly anxious looking gesture. ] I got here a couple months after, right before the whole thing in Andres. That was a whole baptism by fire, let me tell you.

The Battle of Andres. [Bobbing her head. (Know History: 20 tot.)] Been hearing a lot about that one since I got here. How, one of the Knights was the lost heir and once again King and something about a massive Golem. I got the impression it was one of those things where reality was actually worse than the stories.

[ her hand instinctively lifts to press just underneath her chest, thumb drifting across her breastbone. ]

It was not a good time, for sure. For only a single night of violence... it was-- [ she shrugs, words ineffectual to convey what it was. alice knows that she didn't see nearly as much action as others had, but she still wakes up in cold sweats next to will feeling the sword rip through her torso. you don't just get over something like that. ] I would definitely prefer that be a one time thing, honestly.

[It's not hard for Sawyer to see that the battle had taken a toll on Alice (SM 24), her lips pressing into a grim line, gaze serious as she nods her head. While she might be curious, she at least has the sense not to pry (Wis 17).]

Is something, big like that, voluntary?

[ with a nat 20 disguise check, zatanna is not messing around. magic, probably. she's at least foregone her customary fishnets for tonight. she's a good source for questions at least, since she doesn't live the ~usual knight lifestyle~ ] Me? I guess you could say I'm part-time. I come in when they call, but only if I can get away from whatever I've got going on.

[Way to make a noob feel totally under-dressed Zatanna! You and all your hotness.

Her words are met with a look that's for the most part surprised but there's perhaps just a hint of disappointment lurking behind her eyes.]

So there's like, a whole heap of Knights that are never around... I didn't realize things were quite so... loose?

Wynn recognizes that not everyone can drop everything and come live in a castle full time. He takes allies where he can get them.

And with headquarters all over the place this organisation is a whole lot bigger than people realize I'm guessing.

So did you just come by for the party this time or, you get called in? [A smile settling across her lips.]

I've actually been trying to help with a certain... case, recently, that has me stopping in now and again. The timing was fortunate.

[incantatio]

[Her eyebrows raise like she's waiting for Zatanna to elaborate on the 'certain case' in question.]

Anything interesting?

[cigam]

I suppose you could say that. Have you heard about Amara?

[incantatio]

Uhhh. [Know Local: 12 lol.] I heard something about an Amara and somebodies husband being sent to Whore Island but... I was pretty sure that was a joke.

There's not really anything funny about it. She's a sorceress from an ancient hidden order - the originators of the magical heritage of all humans. Cursed, to fall in love with the first human that she set eyes on.

That would be said husband.

[incantatio]

[Clearly not what she was expecting to hear, Sawyer's eyebrows disappearing beneath her bangs as her eyes widen.]

And... you're involved with trying to break the curse?

[cigam]

It's been sort of a... long, complicated road.

How long have you been at it so far?
